I would honestly blame the huge boom of video game development, though Konami and Capcom are still to blame as well. When there becomes a huge saturation and plethora of devs and game makers who shit out DLC-ridden titles like Ass's Creed, and Call of DayCare, it gets harder to spend your money on good complete games, which the market purchases mainly Call of Duty and those types. I guess Capcom and Konami have been trying to reach their hand into that demographic to pull themselves out of the financial problems... the problem with that is that Konami and Capcom lost their ideas and goals which was to make masterpieces, only to fall victim to making money off of little to no effort with franchises that were iconic and filled with nostalgia of how great they were and still can be in the modern market. They fail because Konami started off great and fell to capitalism and the free market, trying to get its hands in on the billion dollar industry as well. hard to put in what I'm trying to say, but I feel that the saturation of titles hindered Konami and Capcom.

People's taste change I realize they put out yearly releases but the pool of potential customers is so large you can do that now. The majority of consumers dont buy every iteration of a series the figure is more like once every 4 years. Alot of 90s companies arent structured to survive nowadays plus that generation is retirement age or just refuse to hand the reigns to anyone else so they will milk it til their dead. Look at all the great companies of the past, Activision, sucks now, Capcom, sucks now, THQ, no longer exists, Ubisoft, sucks now, Bungie, great with Halo, sucks now, Rareware trash for a long while now, Hudson Soft, no longer exists, Sega, sucks now. All the big companies from the past are dying, and they will be replaced in time with the new breed of dev's Indie Dev's will step up and become the next big 3rd party companies. Playtonic aka the former Rareware guys will be big, Team Garage (Splatoon) will be great, Yacht Club Games (Shovel Knight) will be great, hell myself as an Indie Dev will step up (hopefully lol) Point is the great companies of the past are coming to an end. So who is left? Namco Bandai? All they have left really is the Tales Of games which are amazing.

We will never get a great game like Silent Hill 2 again. One of my favorite games of all time. There has not been a Japanese developed Silent Hill game since Silent Hill 4: The Room. I see it goes like this in terms of quality: Silent Hill (Great), Silent Hill 2 (Masterpiece), Silent Hill 3 (Great), Silent Hill 4: The Room (Good), Silent Hill: Origins (Dull), Silent Hill: Homecoming (Bad), Silent Hill: Shattered Memories (Better), Silent Hill: Downpour (Descent), and Silent Hill: Book of Memories (Not even a Silent Hill game). The point is that since they allow American studios not related to Team Silent, since they did not want to make a Silent Hill game past 3, to make these games, they do not hit the main points. I am livid right now, I hope they don't throw away this opportunity at a chance of reviving Silent Hill. The only thing I can think of for them to not get rid of it would be if the new Fatal Frame does well. I think that will put survival horror back on the map in terms of a 1995-2006 revival of those times.
@littleocean9 жыл бұрын
***** I really enjoyed Silent Hill 4, and that game would have been a whole lot better if it were a stand alone game called The Room as initially planned by Team Silent until Konami made them change it into a Silent Hill game, and that's why Team Silent parted ways with Konami. Silent Hill 1-4 on the PS2 are the definitive Silent Hill experience, no Silent Hill after that has come close in capturing the mystique of those first 4 games. The way they handled the HD collection revealed the true nature of Konami, that is the worst HD collection of all the HD collections ever made, and there are many.
@MisogiProductions9 жыл бұрын
***** Exactly, overall, Team Silent did not want a Silent Hill after 3, which is fine. Konami basically milked the cow dry on that one. Then they started beating a dead horse. Now that they have something new, they want to scrap it because they are afraid that since Kojima is no longer present, that the game may not sell well at all. It is all about money when it comes to these companies. Sometimes a risk is needed to succeed.

I miss the old days of gaming when companies tried to be creative. Now they just cookie cutter everything. So many of the creators of great franchises have left the companies who just want the same game over and over again. I'm not saying I don't like some franchises like GTA, Metal Gear Solid, and Super Smash Bros. But these companies just see the bottom line. Why not make a sort of "work on sequel, then on original idea and alternate" deal. Some of my favorite games are one time deals, Tomba (or Tombi), Jade Cocoon (we don't speak of JC2), and Ephemeral Fantasia. This is also why the indie market is so big. They think fresh, they think new. This is why Mojang climbed so quickly in popularity alongside Minecraft. Often, when I game shop online now, I look at indie games long before trying some big name game. 7 Days to Die, Survivalist, Pixel Piracy, Awesomenauts... so many that are out there which are great. I can see ultimately where this is going... eventually the fans of these big name games will get bored of the same thing every 2-3 years and just stop buying them, and the companies will be put in a position of needing something original but all they got are trained coding guinea pigs who don't think creatively while I can see many of the creative people like Hideo Kojima starting their own companies and making their own games, making original titles that people will love like they used to. Sadly, for that light at the end of the tunnel, we will have to enter the tunnel and push through the darkness. See you all on the other side.
@RabbitOST9 жыл бұрын
It's true what you say about the Indie area of gaming nowadays. Big name companies I swear are just making the same game with a different name or just don't know what the fuck their doing anymore (Looking at Sega). Like I said in your previous video about this, I am actually glad if it ends up being cancelled. Silent Hill is my favorite videogame franchise, but at this point it's the Sonic of survival horror. There's more bad stuff than there is good. I wish they'd stop beating the dead horse and let it be remembered for the 4 original good games. Or at least FUCKING INVOLVE HIROYUKI OWAKU, MAIN WRITER OF SH AND STILL WORKING AT KONAMI, IN THE PROJECT. Truth is, Konami doesn't know shit about SH lore nor does it care, and it shows. So yeah, I hope Silent Hills is never released. I'm sick of games messing with the original lore with alternative dimension and "hurrrr it's purgatory" bullshit.
@animekid90009 жыл бұрын
BortzProductions >messing with the original lore with alternative dimension You mean the thing Silent Hill 3 and 4 out right confirmed? You cannot explain many aspects of the series, even the Team Silent games, without the Otherworld/Fog World being 'another world'. Also, Hiroyuki Owaku was never the main writer of Silent Hill. He only wrote Silent Hill 3, and did some programming for 1 and 2. Not exactly the 'main writer'.

Yeah, I'm sure it's totally unrelated. >And SH4 is an entirely different story, you don't even visit the town. So there. Expect you do, two of the 'worlds' are within Silent Hill. And the plot wouldn't had even happened without the town and it's cult, so why is it 'entirely different'?
@BortzProductions9 жыл бұрын
animekid9000 So basically you're saying that there's an alternate dimension everywhere, not just in Silent Hill? Then how is SH special at all? lol SH3: Vincent says "I know about the pleasures of THIS world" referring to the "normal" dimension when he's in the "rusty world". Just another piece of evidence. And no, SH4 has nothing to do with the nightmare projected by Alessa because it's all created by Walter. Different nightmare, different rules. In SH4 you explore a distorted world created by Walter's mind using the room as a catalyst. Completely different. You might wanna check out The Real Silent Hill Experience here on KZbin for more details. It's a fan made documentary aproved by members of Team Silent and even voice actors from the games.

It's more alarming to me, with consoles they're able to remove something from the store and you can no longer access it. Why isn't anyone voicing this sorta thing? As far as I'm aware, even if you bought a game on these platforms and they remove it from their store, you can no longer download it regardless of purchase. Isn't that a bit dodgy? I'm aware, PT is technically a demo, I'm not really referring to that- though that is shame since it was more of a game than Ground Zeroes which they had the balls to charge 30-40 bucks for.

Anyone who bought it has FULL access to the game still- others can't buy it but owners get updates and can still get it no matter what.

What's with shitty publishers cancelling amazing games I'm looking forward to? Thanks Bethesda for treating Human Head like garbage and ruining Prey 2. Thanks Konami for destroying a promising reboot that would likely put an incredible series back on track!

I play yugioh still, but that's because I don't care what others think. I build my own E. HERO deck and love and can still stand a chance against much meta. I will agree the game is a mess and the Arc V anime is the only thing keeping me somewhat invested. More than anything play how you want, or switch to something like cardfight vanguard it's becoming so budget friendly now with the new G series. Although meta decks still cost $200-300, but with no ban list and just two restricted cards the game is pretty great. Just buy two Cardfight Vanguard G decks and you have a really good start even for tournements.

Also to note besides Norman Reedus and Del Toro being involved in this, even Sony took notice of this idea since they said that the PT demo was downloaded over 1 million times.

Whitefox789 In which to god I hope as hell that Sony picks up Silent Hills they already have shown they can do it with niche IP's like Ryu ga Gotoku 5 (Yakuza 5). I just wish like Harry Mason, James Sutherland, Heather Mason, and Henry Townshend (Yes I consider Silent Hill 4 worthy of having the SH title even though it was placed at the last minute just to sell the game). For this madness to end!

Not the first. The first started a few years back when a bunch of prominent figures in the industry quit (some sold off the studios, took the money & ran). As the list of studios closing continues to grow, the shrinking industry will reach critical mass. This new console generation is a failure & the amount of impending lost jobs will be epic.

chewynickerson Downpour wasn't the trainwreck that was Homecoming and it was alright...until the prison. But after that point it got so horrendously bad that I can't even play the game anymore. Challenge: Name one Japanese video game company that has been making good decisions lately. Nintendo... nope. Konami... nope. Square-Enix... nope. Capcom... nope. Sega... nope. I think the age of Japanese international video game acclaim is over. Most of my favorite games from the last 5 years have been by 'western' companies and tend to be indie in development. It's sad really, there used to be good games coming from these companies. I think they tend to focus more on local trends and not what the international market wants. (*cough* Nintendo and Square-Enix mobile games *cough*)

Tyler French Nintendo - KZbin content creator program Konami - Scrubbing Kojima from everything Square Enix - Where's my FF VII remake? These companies can still do some good, but overall their decisions have been piss poor. Plus, I personally thought that Smash 4 was a step backwards. It wasn't anywhere near as fun as Brawl in my opinion. The fact that Nintendo is finally using DLC properly isn't enough of a point to redeem them. They were super late to that party.

This is so heart breaking. Being a huge Silent Hill fan, a good Silent Hill game was finally going to be here since Silent Hill 4. Some original Team Silent members were in Kojima's team. And the fact of who's all involved with the project was jaw dropping...just to be taken away. Downpour was alright...but this one maybe going to be a huge come back. But Konami just wants to keep fucking the series up the ass. Such shame, man.

Not even kidding, I was waiting all day to see this video happen. I was unaware of the context of the Del Toro "It's not going to happen" message, and I wanted to say thank you for clearing that up. I'm crossing every appendage that I can cross that this game doesn't get canceled, honestly. This game was going to be my reason behind saving up for a PS4. But, the fact of the matter is, as you said, Konami is a bunch of damn morons if they let this game go. The casting along was a recipe for cash flow. But anyways, that's enough of my rambling. Another awesome video, despite the content being a total bummer. Keep up the good work!

Another thing to keep in mind is that Kojima was some kind of advisor on the new Castlevania games also. So really, they've needed him to be their version of Miyamoto and oversee ALL their major games. I'd go so far as to say Kojima was more important to Konami than any one person of ANY other company.

Amen brother! Just like your Final Fantasy 7 remake video, companies need to just be straight and tell us what's on their menus so we can choose to dine or whine. I hope it's not canceled. P.T. actually made me a little worried to play it because of the twisted mindset they showed and it could scare you. It's been a long time since i played a game that actually made you think twice about your surroundings or just walking into the next room like that demo did. As i'm writing this, PSN says i can no longer play it since it's been taken off the roster of downloads. And it had such huge potential. I will stay tuned for your rants and raves. Keep up the great work. I love these videos. I will continue looking for answers also. Thank you.

It's so god damn sad. back in the day, all of these big companies had several different interesting IPs under their belt, but because the games have gotten bigger, meaning bigger budgets, meaning we can no longer afford a game to not sell - many companies cling to one IP they know will sell every time, and then just let the rest rot at the Bar of Forgotten Franchises.
@PlaynReview9 жыл бұрын
You know what this situation reminds me of? What happened with Star Wars 1313. A really hyped game that had gameplay teasers that were astronomically amazing then what happened? A partnered company cancelled it for no reason at all!

Silent Hills may not be cancelled, but the version many people wanted almost certainly is. Del Toro and Kojima were what drove this vision. I'm no Silent Hill fan, but I was REALLY intrigued by P.T,

Capcom, Konami, Nintendo, Square and Enix were what got me heavily invested into the gaming culture in the 90s and they churned out some of the best titles out there. Now fast forward to this decade and its obvious that these companies are but a shell of their former glory. It really says something when the Souls series and Bloodborne make for better survival horrors than the majority of actual survival horrors.

One thing to remember is the reason why Kojima is leaving. He's not a permanent employee, he's a contracted employee and his contract is due to expire at the end of the year. While we're not sure on the details, for whatever reason Konami had refused to renew his contract and I have a feeling (though I could be wrong) that it's because he wants more money than what the company could afford. We'll probably not know the details until months of years from now.

It blows my mind that Komani is still in business. Seriously how have the not tanked yet. They haven't had a hit since............ I think the last Metal Gear Game but that is just my guess. Seriously that E3 conference should have been a sign that something was wrong over there.
@AlluMan969 жыл бұрын
Agreed. It's not like Konami couldn't try to find someone else to put on Kojima's spot if they so seriously need that 3rd dude. I mean, if their really afraid of losing the vision of the project, why not try to rope some of the original Team silent players back for this project? I'm sure they'd be able to preserve what the P.T demo promised, if not even create something new and equal to that vision. That might even win back confidence from SH fans back, knowing that the veterans that made this series so spectacular are back in the picture.
