A buddy of mine was once griping about the Ultramarines movie, that Hollywood wanted to add a romantic subplot. I joked that was nothing, imagine if Bollywood tried to add their formula. Let's imagine the hulking powersuits from the 40K universe breaking into singing and dancing. Now everyone shudder.

100%! In fact, I was reminded of this line after seeing a bunch of so-called 'fans' do nothing but talk about how the newest episodes of Star Trek were completely shit merely because they changed a date that was last mentioned over 55 years ago. Obviously, that date was very important to the themes of the episode, and changing it from 1992 to some time in the 2040s completely changes the meaning and message of the entire franchise! How dare they! Seriously, people need to pull their heads out of their asses.

It's so unnerving to hear Yahtzee actually speak regularly at the end segment. I knew it was him from the moment he started talking, but some part of my brain still needs convincing that this man who speaks at a regular, human pace and stops for breaths between sentences is , in fact, him.

And yet ironically one of the fan-theories is exactly that he's very very gay and possibly ashamed of it, because of all the phallic-looking, ubermasculine enemies and the incredibly out of place big-titted sexy nurses. Mind you, that's just a theory, I doubt the writers were good enough to actually mean that symbolism.

It occurs to me in hindsight that when Yahtzee talks about the difference between Japanese and American horror and then immediately admits that he's just describing Resident Evil, he should take into account the fact that Resident Evil was quite obviously an explicit attempt by a Japanese game developer to make a game based around American-style horror- especially by the 4th main game. Hell, the early games were set in and around the most stereotypically Midwestern American city you could imagine, and the basis of the plot was "zombie apocalypse". Silent Hill is set in America as well, but despite the very superficial similarities to Resident Evil, it couldn't be less stereotypically American without digging up the entire town and moving it to Japan.

This was my first Silent Hill game... I know worst entry to start the series with. But what really drew me into the thick and horrible atmosphere was the happy occasion of returning home (seemingly from war) and finding your house and town twisted, decayed and completely deserted, the land all around is literally coming apart and the sky is constantly dark. It's a scene straight out of a depressant induced nightmare.
@jcohasset23
@jcohasset23 5 жыл бұрын
I'm not sure I'd say it's the worst in the series since Downpour could be argued as the worst (though Origins has probably the weakest story). It's maybe the least Silent Hill-like of the series due to being far more action oriented with relatively straight-forward areas and puzzles, and the plot having only loose ties to Silent Hill. It has some good ideas, designs, and a decent plot though the game does fall apart in areas from monologues and from having a weak ending.

I know, I know..Action "horror" games have been on for a while...but jesus fu**ing christ, IT'S A SILENT HILL GAME! a game that you're never supposed to have the upper hand against several enemies.

I'm not going to tell you that you are wrong for liking something, like au25 would, but the reason why people don't like the game is in part that the story shits the bed with the plot twist, and that it is not a true survival horror.

1. Silent Hill 4 did the whole female sidekick thing too, nobody complained. 2. Apparently, that's not the true Pyramid Head. He was renamed the Bogeyman. And if you look at the pictures, you'll see that instead of representating something, he acts as a kind of keeper of the underworld who punishes people for their sins, like when he slices Alex's father in half. 3. The monsters, I still have no idea about. I know the bosses represent the kids' deaths, but I'm not sure about the rest. Maybe it represents the horrors that the Order is trying to keep at bay? Idk, I'm just guessing right now. (I know the numbers were a bit irrelevant, I just saw it as a way of organizing my thoughts.)

Sadly I suggest this, if your going to play it, it’s a ok game, yeah you will get very annoyed at the game. What I suggest you do is just the moment you get a weapon and you fight the first enemy just keep restarting the first section of the game, I do advise just getting used to the very simple combat combo, most the bosses are slow but can do some decent damage but the big thing is when you are walking through the town, deal with the enemies as fast as possible. My fist run through suffered for the lack of ammo and health items, but I do suggest if your going for all the ends, for the love of god get the alien ending and stick with that costume to grab your lucky laser pistol, then you can run through the game went so much faster, my only issue was the sliding cube puzzle in the attic, the puzzle to read the poem and to match it to the shape, and the last puzzle of attach triangle peace to plate in church, and only reason I had issue is because crummy memory of oh hey wait this podcast is really good.

I feel like the Amnesia series picked up where Silent Hill left off, at least Dark Descent and Justine. Machine for Pigs was intriguing, but it ultimately came off to me as being not quite so gripping. Probably because the condemnations of Gilded Age society the game makes are so ubiquitous and obvious that at this point it's no more of a social commentary than saying 'Nazis were bad'.

I actually though of a character for a silent hills game (though it is kind of pointless) This girl (who i am yet to name) takes a bet from her friends to stay in the town for one week, but she chickens out after the first day, because she had the feeling all day that something was watching her and heard children playing, a car crash but no car, and the children screaming, but a monster who she thinks looks familiar (who I want to call the Butcher) Slashes her tires and then chases her into a building, there she finds a hand gun and trys to fight back, but the gun is empty and the butcher slowly creeps towards her, lifting his knife...

Right, because as we all know, it's very easy to pick up and move to a completely different country whenever you feel like it, dealing with finding a new place to live, trying to find a job, paying for all the moving and immigration costs, dealing with all the paperwork, leave all your friends behind, and so forth. Why, no matter who you are, you can get all of that done easily within a span of a week, tops. Moving to other countries isn't a big deal in the slightest!

The Japanese do horror better generally. Just like America does action pretty well. We've all got our strong suits so lets stick to them.

I'd argue that Korea does horror better than Japan does. Unless you're talking videogames. Then I suppose I can agree a bit more, being a big fan of Fatal Frame.

winteravarice Well I've never seen a Korean horror film but now that you say that I'll have to check one out. As for film or video games I more or less meant both. Though once again now that you speak of Korea.

I think Pyramid Head was the stand in for Alex in Homecoming. Joshua's representation was the final boss.

To be fair, they did Pyramid Head justice. It's just unusual because it's in no way relative to the player character. P.H. represents guilt, and more specifically, a feeling that one deserves to be punished for something. In SH2, it was the player character. In SHH, it was the player character's father, hence the reason PH only appears twice -- once to look the player right in the face but not pursue him, and a second time to kill Dad, after which his purpose has been fulfilled and he can go away. I also thought the combat was better. SH's biggest shortcoming was the slow clunkyness of the movement -- movement that was too slow and cumbersome even for real life. SHH, in contrast, gave the player a greater degree of control, but also penalized even the slightest of missteps with two thirds of their health bar.

Korn had one song, in the intro or whatever - that's a throwaway. The monsters needed more variety, I"ll give you that. But the story actually made sense, Pendleton wasn't a fucking super soldier like dudebro from Homecoming, and the overall design was quite nice. It doesn't touch 2 or 3, but it's the best non-Japanese made SH game.

Don't forget this game was suppose to feature someone that could handle a gun cause they were exmilitary, but the twist ending completely ruins that idea, but does it mean since they were making it a selling point that he could fire straight that when you couldn't at all in the game mean that this was their best attempt at a competent shooting mechanic, or did they intentionally make it bad to coincide with the twist ending?

He said he "wished he had thought of the ending" He didn't have to comment on the ending, plenty of Stephen King movies have endings different from his books. He CHOSE to comment on how good the ending was.

The thing about the combat with this game is that, if you just use the starting knife, your attacks are so quick the a.i can't handle it and freaks out. You can spam attack the majority of enemies without them ever getting a hit off. Especially with the nurses and the needle creatures (if you get them from the side which is easy with one dodge). On a different note, suck is up Americans, if this is really the worse thing you've faced today then take a good hard look at your life.
