I hate to be that guy but the transition from 10:02 is a leftover from the ghost rider psp game, wich this silent hill game is based off. Doesn't change the fact though they probably just stole the idea lmao

kzbin.info/www/bejne/n2qnh52QhZqgmrc just checked and is the same transition (go to minute 16:13), and even the graphics engine looks similar. the game was a pretty mediocre hack n' slash, ripping a lot of ideas from DMC, even this transition as it seems, the game was published by 2K, BUT developed by guess who, climax. so... we have a mediocre struggle to make an origin story, for a game franchise that already tells it's origins on the first installment, developed half way by an european branch of an studio, who worked on an etirely different kind of game, using the same game tech, probably with a lot of ripped assets, and tosses it's half baked cake to the US branch for the "finishing aspects" of the game. No wonder silent hill origins ended up the glitchy soulless game that it is, and without nothing to add to the franchise.

Well, to be honest, in terms of gameplay Silent Hill always had Resident Evil as a reference, the way you move your character and interact with the world on Silent Hill and Resident Evil is basically the same, even the button layout is the same, people who are used to Resident Evil will have no issues with Silent Hill's control scheme at all.

The irony is they then made Homecoming. Which played like RE4. And was bad. And then they made Downpour. Which also played like RE4. And was, actually Downpour is surprisingly good. I think Homecoming left such a stink that Downpour being more or less the same type of game made it impossible to accept, but Downpour probably is the best Post-3 SH game as far as pure gameplay. Not narrative though, SH4 still wins there.

Capcom's opnion about this game prototype: *"A bizarre incident ocurred in the outskirts of a British town called Portsmouth. It's later reveal that terrible disaster was been caused by team Konami, a team created by the Japanese enterprise KONAMI CORP., that conduct bio weapon programers experiments."* I agree COMPLETELY! lol 🤮

Man... Developers back in the days were obsessed with copying RE4's perspective even when it didn't suit the gameplay _at all._ RE4 with its heavy emphasis on action would not have worked well with fixed camera angles but the ots camera on the other hand does not work well in a slow horror game with less action. RE4 is not known for its pretty environments but that doesn't matter since you're not supposed to immerse yourself in the environment. You're meant to rush in, kick ass and move on to suplexing some more zealots in the next room. Now imagine the first third of RE4 but with the enemy density of SH:H and without all the QTE and crazy combat moves. Such a game would just be a boring and ugly experience. But, on the other hand, a Silent Hill game where you roundhouse kick mobs of Lying Figures into oblivion would not work either. And since graphics weren't quite there yet, it's not like REmake2, where you can have ots and still have detailed and pretty environments. Switching this game to classic fixed camera angles was a good decision by the developers.

"Being a huge Silent HIll fan" Yeah, no. No. Just no. No, some of the western made games aren't great, but some fo them are also actually not nearly as bad as people make them out to be. Downpour is a bit of an underrated love letter to the whole series.

With some modifications, this game could've been epic. Like Resident Evil, Silent Hill's format NEEDED a serious alteration. The original trilogy is a classic but goddamn those camera angles! Silent Hill 4 didn't help either and anything beyond it was atrocious.
@salvo27
@salvo27 5 жыл бұрын
Well after Silent Hill origins they made Shattered Memories,Homecoming and Downpour with dynamic camera and the result,in terms of critics and quality,was not good. Old Silent Hill games are very enjoyable even in 2019,the camera angles are what make you worried about what monster is nearby and where.Never got problems about the camera in SH1/2/3 in all my playthrough.

A trilogy implies that they're connected. Since SH2 is standalone 1, 3 & SM is the only real trilogy in the series, like it or not.
@Rihcterwilker
@Rihcterwilker 3 жыл бұрын
@@Stigmatix666 not really. They can be called a trilogy if they share some aspect in common, beyond in-universe connections. The first 3 games are the ones made by team silent, with almost the whole creative team being the same. While the 4th was also made by team silent, it has different circunstances and a very different mood. And SM, while a game i like, shouldn't be seen as part of the originals in any way. It's a completely different team and in-game world.

@@Stigmatix666 as i said, *almost* the whole creative team being the same during the development of the 3 games. Focus on "almost". It's widely known by now that members of team silent went out to work on other projects and then came back at some point to help with the main SH games. After 4 the team was no more, for good.
