For the question at the end of this episode, the Silent Night Deadly Night franchise is a complete mess with very little narrative cohesion between each installment. The third film famously features Bill Mosley as Ricky, the fourth is directed by Brian Yuzna and features Clint Howard (because of course it does) but it's really the fifth one that takes the cake. It features Mickey Rooney as a crazy toymaker, a very ironic development as the actor was a very vocal detractor of the first movie.
@KasumiKenshirou2 күн бұрын
Red Letter Media just reviewed the fourth entry. I haven't seen it myself, but they guessed it was originally written as something completely unrelated to the franchise or even Christmas and had the name changed at the last minute. Based on what they showed it seemed very plausible.

Part 5 has mickey rooney as a gepetto character who makes a wooden robot boy named Pino, part 4 has clint howard but is the most disgusting movie you'll ever see, and part 3 has bill moseley playing Ricky but as a Frankenstein monster-type version of him with a clear dome exposing his brain as he stumbles about the city, barefoot and wearing a hospital gown. Also, the remake is dogshit but has the killer santa use a flamethrower.
@reignfire853 күн бұрын
Oh man, he's finally covering the legend itself! This series really is something else, and 2 is probably the only one really worth seeing. 3 does have a ton of wasted potential and turns into a cliched slasher flick (part of me actually wants to helm a remake, no joke); 4 has an interesting premise with witchcraft and has Clint Howard; and then 5 has Mickey Rooney and Clint Howard has a cameo. Honestly, they're not far off from what you usually cover so you'll probably get to them one day anyway, but none of them compare to the second one becoming a monumental cult classic. Merry Christmas, Robin.

It is NOT bad. Quite the contrary. In the opinion of any number of horror fans (myself included) it's a flawed but well worth attention.

@@ashleys9397 I agree that Silent Night, Bloody Night has its creepy and atmospheric tones. The winter setting is well done, keeping it cold and foreboding. Its plot though is quite convoluted and that's why I thought it would be a good fit for a Dark Corners review.

Well, what you need to know about the sequels is... they drop the killer Santa thing. Heck, the 4th movie is an unrelated witch movie that they rebranded to fit the series. It's not until the remake that we go back to a killer Santa Claus the series is known for, unless you count Mikey Rooney hamming it up a Santa outfit in the 5th movie as a killer Santa. (Ironic, since he was one of the main voices pushing to boycott the original.)

Side note- im pretty sure ricky in this doesnt even qualify to be a serial killer Hes a Spree Killer Aka he goes on a single big rampage of mostly wanton random acts of violence vs serial killers usually have a method they follow to some extent and do it over a long period of time. The method can either be how they pick their victims or how they kill them, or both. Ricky snaps at the movie theater and starts randomly killing a bunch of people all on the same day for no real reason, with no real connection as to why Apparently one of the guys he kills just for taking out the trash after all. Or maybe not taking it out at all? Who knows with this film The first film the lead is a serial killer as he starts killing people specifically for "being naughty" and its over the course of at least a week if i remember correctly
@bostonrailfan24272 күн бұрын
it straddles both as the only difference is a cooling-off period between killings but the killings of multiple in a short period of time are linked with the same trigger which is also the trigger for the other kills
@ConnorNotyerbidness2 күн бұрын
@bostonrailfan2427 in any case given theres no cooling off period- as his spree doesnt last long enough- he almost definately doesnt qualify as a Serial Killer

@bostonrailfan24272 күн бұрын
@ …you missed the clear time skips between earlier kills, the theater kills, and the rampage. it’s not one continuous spree, it’s arguably at least three separate sprees which by the very definition of being three separate times and with time between is a serial killing. he’s both spree and serial.
