Anna is one of my favorite guests of yours Jonathan. Thanks for having her on. I’d like to share with you and your viewers my own position as a life-long friend of Ukraine. I posted a comment on Jake Broe’s recent blog that although I regard him as a genuine hero, I respectfully disagreed with him when he stated that “we don’t need ruzzia to lose”. I believe we do need ruzzia to lose completely to the point of disintegration. There is no chance of peace in the world as long as the ruzzian federation continue to exist. Their desire for conquest seems to be incorporated into their spirit 0 Слава Україні 🇺🇦Україна понад усе 🇺🇦

Absolutely. When people say: "When all of this end we will come back to regular contact with Russia" My answer is: "Stop pretending that there will be some Russia in the future to contact with." If someone would think that such a dismantling of this regime would change anything there. No. It has to be dismantled and strictly isolated.

Putin is a product of Russian culture and acts accordingly. The so-called Russian opposition isn't much different-they share the same imperialist mindset and belief that Russia deserves special treatment. Nothing will change unless the West stops buying into this narrative of Russian exceptionalism and begins holding the country accountable for its actions.

Kursk used to be Ukrainian territory. When Nikita Khrushchev "gave" Crimea to Ukraine, it wasn't for free. He practically swapped Crimea for the Kursk region. So if Crimea, god forbid, has to be given back to Russia in negotiations, Russia should be forced to give the Kursk region back to Ukraine. Let's hope this never comes to be.

There are A LOT of Russians in the US who are firmly on Ukraine’s side in this war. America is the epicenter of the Soviet/Russian diaspora. Most of these folks have no illusions as far as Russia is concerned. It’s a lot safer for anti-Soviet & anti-Imperial Russians in the US than it is in Europe or the UK. The Brits and Continental Europeans did a lot more business with Putin and are/were more dependent on Russian energy.

Please bring Anna D. back again soon, her granitic, unyielding, fierce adherence to her truths and to her 'verities' makes her so replenishingly encouragingly to take in word for word, concept for concept. I felt so frustrated with the U.S.A. administration and its failures vis a vis Ukraine and the conduct of the war, bitterly frustrated!! Anna drops as today by surprise into my viewing and Listening and restores my hope as would an antidote, and again causes me to want to find a truly meaningful way to contribute to Ukraine's central cause and other causes articulated by V. Zelensky, and my energies come alive as in hope I initiate thought and the workings of my soul as to precisely what and thence to 'how best.' Thank you both, I will conclude with fulsome, desiring heart to find new ways in my disabled 'coil' to contribute again and again beyond until Ukraine prevails in every possible way defeating Russia's miserable, base intentions. Oh, to have the degree of physicality I had at 50! I would be driving pick-up truck et al. ambulances for Ukrainian soldiers, civilians, and the children, oh...the children! [Denver, Colorado]

NATO must carefully navigate the fine line between avoiding direct involvement and continuing to support Ukraine in defending its sovereignty. The risk of escalation, particularly with the use of long-range missile capabilities, is substantial. Putin’s warnings about the involvement of NATO satellites highlight how fragile the situation is, as any attack on these assets could trigger a dangerous chain reaction. Enabling Ukraine to produce and deploy such weapons independently offers a potential solution. This approach lessens the perception of direct NATO engagement while still allowing Ukraine to maintain its defense capabilities. By prioritizing support for Ukraine’s domestic arms production and offering technical expertise, NATO can avoid supplying long-range missiles directly, thus steering clear of actions that could provoke a wider conflict with Russia. The real challenge lies in finding a balance between military support and diplomatic caution to prevent the conflict from spiraling into a global catastrophe. This requires a highly strategic approach and careful decision-making.

You call the West short-sighted, but ignore the outcome of victory for Ukraine, which will happen, on the economy. At that point, a de-populated Ukraine will be required to repay an enormous debt, some from before the war and much more from the war itself. It will be required by its creditors such as the IMF to restructure its economy and finances. Recent examples include Russia in the 1990s (which led to the oligarchs and Putin) and Greece. That is completely and utterly short-sighted and nowhere to be found on your channel.
@SiliconCurtain
@SiliconCurtain 7 сағат бұрын
I don’t really understand your point - the cost of victory is high, of course, but the cost of defeat is annihilation - so what’s the choice for Ukraine? They did not choose to be invaded and are not fighting as NATO proxies- so what’s your point?

@@SiliconCurtain It is not that there is an alternative. It is that victory which leads to economic disaster means bitterness and resentment and "proof" that the democratic experiment is a failure. In 1946, after the defeat of the Nazis, there was a severe winter that produced crop failure. In France it was common to hear, "If this is victory, bring back the Boche." It was the situation in which the Truman Administration stepped in with the Marshall Plan. In the 1990s, the IMF insisted on "shock therapy" for Russia as a condition of loans. That meant Neoliberal privatization and elimination of worker and pension security. The oligarchs took over, since Russia was not equipped to deal with such a sudden transition. That led directly to Putin. Something similar should be expected in Ukraine. The price of victory may be disillusionment with democracy. If you think the IMF and other IFIs will be more enlightened, you are wrong. It is exactly these interests which have tanked the very rational proposal to use seized Russian assets. The IMF and other allies' plans so far bear no resemblence to the Marshall Plan, whether they use the name or not. Ukraine's population today is 40% lower than in 1990. It will be impossible for them to service the debt. It will be impossible to rebuild without a return of a good portion of the people who have left. etc. I did some work a couple of years ago on Substack. I'll see if I can find that and link it below. Busy now. May take a day. No doubt the focus of everybody is on winning the war, but it is a catastrophic mistake to then lose the peace.
