This was a really big episode where you can see that the early work really pays off. They made Billings a lot more interesting too. It’s a nice touch for him to have his own big secret while his allegiances remain unclear. Jules displays her darker side by laying into him and all the backstory with George does a good job to balance things out. The shell tattoo that you see she has a fascination with when she’s with George coming from the book was another great detail as well. What do you think is going on behind those screens?

the pez dispenser's description... actually kinda sounds a little like a miniature silo? maybe hinting that the silo's "head" can also be opened and people are supposed to be allowed to "pop out" like pez candy? the setup after this episode really makes me question whether "everything is a lie" and that the whole silo is some sorta human experiment where folks were being artificially contained within a controlled environment as a sort of long-term experiment, like a the real-life mars habitat that NASA tested on earth... i'm reminded of the setting of Severance, and maybe even that awesome reveal in the 2014 miniseries Ascension (MAJOR SPOILERS do not look it up if you wanna try the show), or that rather confusing 1899 show.

(no spoilers) I devoured the first two books over the holiday weekend and your thoughts about the Pez dispenser reminded me of something I thought while reading them. I had the thought that the story unfolds a bit like the parable of the blind men and the elephant, where several blind men are allowed to examine an elephant, but only one part of it for each man, and they each describe what the creature must be like based on their observations. It seems to be a similar theme with the watch: representing different things to everyone who sees it. I have only just started the last book, and while I think the books are pretty good (page turners, as far as I'm concerned), I do appreciate the show embellishing/elaborating on the source material. The ideas are clearly there and there's a few pieces that I think could have done with rearranging anyway, LOL. Can't wait for more episodes.

After the conversation between Juliette & Walker ends, there's a shot of Walker looking at a drawing that seems to have a younger version of herself with another woman. Is that supposed to be a younger Meadows? I'm wondering if we're going to get some back story on why Walker decided she had to hide in Mechanical for so many years. Is there a tie between Meadows & Walker? Maybe a relationship gone badly? And with the power that Meadows wields, Walker felt she needed to go as far off the grid as she could within the closed environment of the Silo? I'd love to hear any thoughts you have.

I have not read or listened to the audiobooks (though I might now). Perhaps this was mentioned in previous installments, but I'm surprised no one brings up the Watchmaker analogy; especially since Juliette has the ability to figure out the "design" well enough to make the tools required to fix it. Of course, the idea of the PEZ dispenser as a forbidden object so that the population remains "elevator innocent/ignorant" is humorous; Judicial would allow Stairway to Heaven but definitely not Love In An Elevator! 😆

I think Sandy's remark to Jules about not missing the feeling she's being watched all the time that she experiences Up Top is a good indication of what Holston was going through. They have reasons to believe everything they're told about their existence and are taught from an early age that asking questions is dangerous. Holston loved his wife but his position as the Sheriff gives him a responsibility to not entertain her line of thinking. I doubt he knew for sure that there were cameras by the end but had experienced things that led him to believe someone could see what he was doing in his apartment.
