That scene where there's a long shot of Bernard looking shellshocked while all the vents loom large on the wall behind him was very well done. It really showed how small and powerless he actually is in the face of the Silo itself.

I think the scariest thing about this series is that the scenario is actually realistically possible. Nuclear fallout, only human society is living underground, AI controls everything. This series has given me chills throughout. Bring on S3!
@dffndjdjd2 сағат бұрын
No it isn’t actually. If I asked you how many nuclear bombs have been blown up on the earth’s surface, you’d say 2 right? No, when testing is added in, it’s over 500, and almost all of them many times more powerful than those dropped on Japan. Are you living with daily radiation? Nope. There’s only maybe 4x that many warheads possible from every ICBM on the planet. They could destroy cities, destroy economies, cause famine and chaos. But radiation isn’t one of the long term issues. Plus h bombs produce less lingering radiation than early bombs but are overall more destructive. Does this mean nuclear war is okay? No, but it’s certainly not a literal end of the world jsut a figurative one. We probably couldn’t even put a dent into life on this planet no matter how hard we tried. That said, it’s common to see this trope in fiction, but it’s actually not true. I think N.G. Tyson did a video on it

You made a mistake at 14:00 when Juliette was on the top of the hill and everyone was astonished/spooked for some like they saw a ghost, the burst in joy was before she showed the message"it isn't safe out there" It is one of the big cliffhangers of the series, we didn't see what they were thinking about here message, + the biggest cliffhanger at the end, are they alive both(in the fire decontamination chamber), or just her because she had a firefighter suit, and also the last one which why the algorithm chose Camille and not her son also, her husband you could make theories for it, but both the husband and his son, that is weird, great breakdown it is just sad we have to wait another 2 years to have the third season.

Yeah the issue with this show was the first season needed to see how viewers reacted to it before they pulled the trigger on another season. Did they watch it? Did they stop watching it and never finish, etc? Then with this season, they authorized scripts and pre production before it aired, meaning the studio was betting it would be better received than the first season having slowly built an audience. And I’m guessing that was confirmed since they went ahead and extended it after the first episode aired
@conors443059 минут бұрын
This season was a hard watch. I was very very very close to throwing the towel in because of the amount of filler, but I have to say, they have nailed it with the last couple of episodes. And especially with the real world reveal at the end. As somebody has read the books, I was wondering when this stuff was going to come in and how it would be Integrated, also, while I knew where the end of the season was going, again, they changed just enough to keep me as a book reader on my toes about what exactly was happening because it wasn’t identical. I just really hope they can avoid the nonsensical filler going forward.

As a book reader worried about whether the show would faithfully cover the second book, Shift, I literally shouted out alone “Hell Yeah!” as the DC scene started…. This is nearly exactly how I hoped they would end the finale, though I had speculated they might tease with Donald (it’s not Daniel, by the way, as you mistakenly said in video) the congressman waking up from cryosleep for his first shift in Silo 1. This is just as good, though. Crucially in the book, Jules doesn’t know it’s not Lucas but Bernard because he is wearing a standard cleaning suit with the silver screen inside not a clear one made specifically for the IT head, because it’s the suit that they were going to send Lucas out to clean in. Jules only realizes its Bernard when he refuses to be saved and the fires start to burn off Bernard’s suit to reveal who is inside, no words are exchanged between them, and once she realizes this, Jules has not pity for Bernard and just tries to save herself with the fire blanket she had brought with her from Silo 17 (though in show, she conveniently had to scavenge a firefighter suit to wear to go outside, which will serve the same purpose, as the show was setup not for her to bring fire protection on purpose as she didn’t come over to save Lucas but to stop a war inside. The whole war thing is more about the show deciding to to include a lot more from Book 2 Shift in season 2 of the show by showing and telling a lot of Silo 17’s and Solo/Jimmy’s backstory, which the books save entirely for Shift. It’s so weird how the show chose to have Jules and Bernard end up in the same place at the very end as the book (in the air lock with the fire) but for entirely different motivations and with entirely different intended outcomes. In book Lucas never quits, had been secretly communicating with Jules in Silo 17 over the radio, gets discovered by Bernard and sentenced by him to clean, causing Jules to rush back to Silo 18 to save Lucas when he will be sent out, but finds Bernard sulking in the airlock choosing to commit suicide by fire instead of going out because Sheriff had betrayed him at the end and switched Bernard for Lucas for the cleaning. Also weird that the show has put Sims’ wife in charge instead. In books, Lucas stays IT head after the events of first book. Nevertheless, I’m sure there’s a reason, but wonder whether it’s more about Hugh Howie wanted to have a second crack at rewriting the story better or more about TV adaptation storytelling efficiency? Who knows.

I often wondered why Camille wasn't picked to be Bernard's shadow. She is smart, manipulative, and inquisitive. Everything that Bernard was looking for in a shadow. Why the algorithm figured this out and Bernard couldn't is damning on Bernard. The issue I have with the ending is that the algorithm will tell Meadows and Kyle what the safeguard is but not Bernard. In Silo 17, the IT head knew about the Safeguard. We don't know how. Did he find the tunnel? Or did the algorithm tell him? If that's true, why is Bernard left out? In fact with the exception of Salvador Quinn, every IT head in 18 has been kept in the dark. Do they not trust that Bernard couldn't handle the truth? If I were Bernard and I knew that there's a safeguard in play, I would try my hardest to prevent a revolt otherwise everyone dies. But to lay it on him after years of following the PACT and maintaining order to find that it was really not in his hands, that is jarring. The show writers need to explain that one.

I think the showrunners decided to call the voice “the Algorythm” to setup and keep secret a later big reveal (Spoiler alert stop reading if you don’t want to know now)…. That the voice is a person who the show has already introduced us to as of last night. But cleverly in the books it’s pointed out that the communications system they use to communicate with the other silos is designed to anonymize the voice so the people on the other end won’t know if the person talking to them is substituted with someone else as they work “shifts” in Silo 1 over hundreds of years. In this way, the showrunners are cleverly leaving open the question of whether its AI running things or not (which is an easy assumption to make given how much AI is in the new the last few years.) who knows maybe the show will go in that direction and change it but I don’t see how doing so would allow the story to unfold even remotely like the books do, as the communication between the people in Silo 1 and Jules in future are key elements of the major plot points.

50 silos - 50 states? 1 government- 51?
@timbeaton50453 сағат бұрын
A I the only one who wonders quite why there should be a system to poison the entire Silo? Why, even if there is. rebellion, would there be a system to exterminate 10,000 people? `The only reason i could see would be to somehow prevent a rebellion form "infecting" the other 49 (?) Silos? Hopefully we will find out next season. I guess that this is explained in the books!
@dffndjdjd3 сағат бұрын
Yeah I think it’s implied at this point. The outside is toxic, but with proper preparation they could safely explore, and that could infect the other silos and collapse the whole mission. As to whatever that mission may be and why, we don’t yet know. Then end of this episode implies a nuclear war is on the horizon, so maybe the purpose of the silos is to wait out radiation. But that doesn’t explain the deadly air

I didn't understand, did the algorithm decided to release the poison when Lucas found the door? Or because Lucas told to Bernard?

I think Bernard was on thee way out when the fire started, so he is stuck outside now. Maybe on his way to Silo 17?

I haven’t read the books- this is a far fetched idea probably wide of the mark. Imagine the end scene with DC is not an origin story but instead is the main silo who control the others. Like they rebuilt the main district in DC within a silo- there are no stars in the, admittedly, cloudy but dark sky. Could it be a massive underground town? Of course we are led to believe it is an origin story. He is fifteenth, Georgia presently only has fourteen representatives. The magazine seems a callback to the page showing outside. An army engineer, now a congressman obviously hint at him playing a role in the creation of the silo. The duck being brand new similarly suggest an earlier time. Yet the question of DID a bomb really go off is surely important considering how important the idea of suppression of collective memory/ stories and relics of the before times is throughout the series. Ignoring the question plays in to this idea. Furthermore the idea of ‘shadowy’ figures, in this case campaign donors, being the congressman’s boss suggest there is someone pulling his strings and maybe this is a hint at DC controlling the silos. In reality it probably is just an origin explanation but I think the lack of stars in the sky is important given how influential they were with Lucas’ story. Has DC been built within a massive silo? Is top world DC still fine, and running the silos as an experiment ? Or maybe the scene was just set many years before the events of Juliet.

Did the show set up the hand signals at all in past episodes? Even just in the background of mechanical? As a non-book-reader, if they did, that'd be mindblowing. Otherwise, it feels kinda cheap, like a "well, actually, this is what really happened" kind of fakeout storytelling. Still really enjoyed the past two episodes.

kinda weird how many of these shows come out in pairs. the more of this we watch the more it feels like we already just watched this show, it was called fallout. on prime video. it's gonna ultimately be a reveal where we actually bombed the world because "fiduciary duty to shareholders". i just hope the screenwriter got paid twice.

The first Fallout game released in 1997; the source novels for Silo began publishing in 2011. I think it's clear that the former inspired the latter, but it's a very different narrative (and tone). There can be more than one "post-apocalyptic fallout shelter" story, and I'm sure Fallout wasn't the first.

that flash back scene was such a small taste of the past . I wanted so badly to see a waiter or barman in that restaurant they were sitting , to walk up to the table and lookup while writing down there order to reveal a face of one of the people from the Silo and it be a shock factor reveal that a past version of them existed . It could have given so much mystery to play with , like are the silo inhabitants clones , are they in the matrix in some sort of arc under criyo sleep , or all part of some experiment off planet and the original colony died off long ago setting off a AI bug that sends chemicals out to wipe their memories every few centuries . so many sci fi tropes could have played into the mystery . The best part isn't really the mystery of why or how the silos came to be or who their descendants are tho, so that wouldnt matter , it just would have been cool , the best part about the show is how people co-exist and how other silos come together or end up at war or fight over resources etc... the cutthroat social nature of the human condition under constraint , is always the most interesting part of a show especially when it's hard to tell who the good and bad guys are ,since it's just a matter of perspective , like with Bernard trying to protect the Silo but being portrayed as the bad guy. The only thing I now know for sure , is that there are AI unit that manage the human race . probably shepparding them like sheep until the planet is inhabitable ,since going outside could cause resource issues when silos find eachother and try to get in or pack risk spreading some sort of sickness etc ...

I feel like normalizing the allah akbar form of character death is a bad choice for media. We had an entire Insurrection story arc in The BSG reboot where this seems to have begun. Silo looks like an amazing show, in my opinion this is a minor detractor, doesn't ruin the show nor the end of the season.

So many unanswered questions (please don't spoil it for me, just let me know if it will make sense in the end) Why lie that it's safe outside when it's not? Why threaten the safeguard when you want to save the silo? Why is it even there? What good is a silo if everyone inside it dies?
@adeelg553 сағат бұрын
simple, because there are 50 silos not just 1
@mightheal3 сағат бұрын
They've already told us why they lie it's safe outside. It's so the cleaners don't panic and clean the camera before they die. But if you mean why everyone else thinks it's safe that's because they're making a assumption they don't actually know anything and no lie was told to them that it was safe.
@dffndjdjd3 сағат бұрын
Clearly at this point, it is deadly outside, but that can be overcome with preparation, meaning if there wasn’t overwatch from outside the silo, one silo could explore and find the others, tunnel to each other even. Meaning that the purpose of having 50 silos separate was so that some of them survive, not necessarily all because of civil conflict, disease, etc. Having one community is an all eggs in one basket situation. So safeguard’s role is to kill a silo when it risks affecting others. It’s brutal but coldly logical. As to why they are there, we don’t know. It’s implied this episode perhaps a nuclear war was on the horizon and these people are descendants of the survivor, hence the Pez
