Hearing Hermitcraft name dropped in this video is not something I expected, but made me smile! They are an amazing group of creators, and y'all are showcasing a truly unique art form with creative games! Been loving this series! And I enjoy the fun tangents about architecture :)

I don’t know, I’d watch 300 episodes of this even if each was just about one building.

If each building was 1 episode I think I might actually reach 300 episodes with this one... thanks, but I'll try to condense as much as possible in each episode! 😉

It's always so nice to watch a video about a subject a creator is very passionate about, it always translates really well and makes a subject more interesting. Thank you Silv, I appreciate the sneakily teaching new stuff and reminding me of one of the reasons I went into the building sector in the first place (next to having an affinity to Physics).

If you also like Cities Skylines or city planning you'll love Akruas videos, he's developing a city in central Europe where he started the city centuries ago, and every episode slowly works towards modern day while he's talking in depth about what historic events and policies defined the planning of cities in the region. I don't live in Central Europe but he's so great at describing the history behind every detail of his city that it's totally encapsulating anyways.

Looking fantastic as always! This is really making me want to work on an urban zoo now, in the middle of a neighborhood with dense buildings all around. Also small nitpick: give your trees random rotation angles because they all look the same and its getting repetitive. Also I've layered 2 trees inside each other before to get a fuller look for some of them.
@Silvarret5 ай бұрын
Good point on the trees, that was just utter laziness on my side. I've never heard of the double tree method but sounds interesting, I'll give it a shot!

This series is so good!! I like the camera work with the time lapses that you do because there are some videos I simply cannot watch because it’s so fast I get motion sickness!! I’m so glad this is something you take into consideration, I wish more people would.
@Silvarret5 ай бұрын
It's something I don't even do consciously anymore, recording so many timelapses has just made it so that I hardly move the camera while playing :D this series in particular works pretty well for it too, with most of the work just being two dimensional façades.

I work at the cheese market in Alkmaar so the weighing building is my view every Friday, they use it in the old fashioned way and sell and carry the cheese that way! I also wanted to add that none of the cheese names actually refer to the regions where they’re made anymore, they just indicate the fat percentage in the cheese!

Nice that you used some inspiration from Frisian cities. I can recommend looking at the Waag, Kanselarij and Centraal Apotheek buildings in Leeuwarden too. Don't forget to add alleys (both public and private) to your city as well for extra realism.

Great episode, Silv, and I'm loving the series so far. I especially love how well the City Hall came out. It was also an educational episode; not only did I learn about Dutch architecture, my American mind learned the true, proper Dutch pronunciation of "Gouda" 😆
@Silvarret5 ай бұрын
Love to see your name still pop up in my comment section! And yeah, it is what it is when it comes to American pronunciations of Dutch words. It seems like many (like Gouda en van gogh) are actually modelled after the French pronunciation.

Will we also see a building in the style of the "Amsterdamse school", or is that too modern (100 years old being too modern)
@Silvarret5 ай бұрын
That's a great idea! I'm mostly not confident in my ability to build anything resembling Amsterdamse School, but I'l see what I can do. 100 years is definitely not too modern, I'm planning on adding a typical early 1900's water tower as well.

Mooi man! I wish houses like these were still being built in reality. Can't say I'm a big fan of all the new fangled 'architecture' with all the glass, steel and concrete. I wouldn't mind if from now on cities started resembling Efteling a bit more. I mean it's got to be doable eh? People seem to feel much happier in an inspiring environment. So why all the bland, boring buildings? (I my guess is that architects look down a bit at cosy buildings and rather express themselves in all these fancy ways, and it's probably also more expensive to build something that looks nice). I wonder what would happen if we built the equivalent of Hobbiton somewhere, and they'd be actual houses where people can live. I'm pretty sure people would jump over eachother to live there. What say you?
@MabuyaQ5 ай бұрын
You may want to check Brandevoort in Helmond.
@Silvarret5 ай бұрын
I agree with your point as a lover of all things traditional architecture, but it mostly comes down to cost, techniques and materials. We started building simple and functional because, among other reasons, it allowed to use to make use of modern technology, save costs and make better homes for everyone. Old houses may look cool but they were cramped, poorly insulated and lacking modern comforts. As much as I'd love to live in Hobbiton, I don't think I could afford it 😉

Maybe call it something like the radial symmetry technique?
@pux0rb5 ай бұрын
In game design I guess it would be called a "helper" which is like a little widget that you can set as the origin to rotate things around. So maybe the "helper piece" method?
@Silvarret5 ай бұрын
Radial symmetry is a great name! Might use that (in which case, to whom may I credit the invention? ;))
@bennetthofland79725 ай бұрын
@@Silvarret You can refer to me as Bennett if you wish to give a shoutout! That would be so cool. But I actually know the term because of Adobe illustrator, which has a tool where you can repeat shapes radially (around a set point). So that's how I know! Absolutely love your content as a fellow Dutchie, and your Parkitect playthroughs inspired me to make a map based on the Amalfi coast! Would love to show it to you if there is any way.
