In the novel "Cycle of the Werewolf" it is explained that the priest was gathering flowers for the parish at a place called Sunshine Hill and one particular flower he picks immediately turns a deathly black and the transformations started for him shortly after (implying it was some kind of cursed werewolf flower).

As a huge fan of this movie who has no problem admitting it certainly has its faults I wanted to try to shed some light in 2 particular things for you guys. 1. The 2 different werewolf masks....This is referenced in the original script which I highly recommend reading. Not the book, Cycle of the Werewolf, I mean the original script. It is also referenced in the movie during the scene when Uncle Red asks how Lowe became a werewolf. Reverend Lowe changes all the time. Not just when the moon is full. However he doesn’t “go full werewolf” until the full moon. There is actually a statement in the script that says during the bridge scene we could almost recognize the werewolf because the moon wasn’t full. So it’s like a partial transformation. 2. Why the werewolf didn’t just kill Jane and Uncle Red in the house...... again this is referenced in the original script. He wanted to make Marty’s death “Real Slow”. Almost torture him before he kills him. So he was intentionally not killing them quickly. The werewolf was actually suppose to speak in the original script. I wish they would’ve stayed true to that script. It is sooooo much better. And scarier. The Nightmare scene is crazy awesome. They changed so much. The bridge scene is entirely different. As much as I love this movie I’d totally support a remake if they’d stay true to that script

Not exactly a Stephen King classic adaptation, but it’s generally watchable on a rainy day. Gary Busey is always fun to watch. At times disjointed due to the change in direction. It could due with a remake. Please consider reviewing classic 50s sci-fi , Invasion of the Body Snatchers, THEM, War of the Worlds.

In my opinion it does feel like a Stephen King story, you have kids, a monster, disbelieving adults, corrupt townspeople, kids have to save their town and the even make a silver bullet it's like a campy IT
@nunyabiznis9186

It could definitely use a readaptation, just as long as it's close to the novella and NOT a dumbed down comedy laced with bad jump scares and cgi (like IT and Pet Sematary)

@8:21 Questions about Reverend Lowe that are answered by the book. (And the book makes specifically clear, he's the minister at the town's Baptist Church. He's not a priest. It's a plot point, as Marty doesn't see Lowe with his eye patch after the fireworks incident because Marty and his family are Catholic and thus don't attend Lowe's Baptist Church.) In the book, Lowe has been a resident of the town for years. The werewolf killings start in January (in the book), and Lowe has only recently become a werewolf. There's no real explanation in the book either. Even Lowe doesn't know how it happened (once he finally realizes what he is, after six months, or so). He thinks that it came when he picked some strange flowers on a local hillside the previous November. He thought them striking and intended to put them in cases in his church's vestry. But, they all died and turned black by the time he made the short drive back to town. He isn't certain, but just has a sense that's when it happened. I agree that Everett McGill was wrong for the part if you want the reveal to be a surprise. He had too much of a history playing "heavies". In the book, Lowe is described as a meek, mousy looking man. The guy playing Brady Kincaid's father was much closer to how Lowe was described in the book.

Probably nostalgia, but I’ve never understood the complaints about the werewolf in this picture. And the movie overall- it’s my favorite werewolf movie. But y’all do have some points about the disjointed-ness. And Jane narrating, y’all def have a point there. Kinda makes no sense lol. But when I think of a werewolf in my mind, it’s always of this one. I’m sure if I first saw it as an adult, I’d be more harsh on it. Yeah, much of the logic makes no sense. But that shot in the final act, of the camera zooming in on the hallway making you think the wolf is coming from that way, then he busts in behind Busey IS GENIUS!!!

Silver Bullet almost seems like a geriatric retelling of a childhood incident with all the tonal inconsistencies, flubs, and continuity errors. Most people now wouldn't second guess the 70s status of the story except the soundtrack element that doesn't seem to include exclusively 70s music. Still a childhood fav in spite of those weaknesses.

Megan Fallows who plays Jane is also well-known for her portal of Anne of Green Gables. And as for Corey Haim it’s interesting to note that he was in this film whereas the other half of the Corey duo was in Stand By Me which was based on King’s novel The Body. So in other words King has had both Coreys in movies that are heavily based on or adapted from his work.

It definitely feels like an early 80s. These types of movies set in these types of towns were our Stranger Things. Do a video on all the 70s/80s small town cheesy horror films that are actually better than Stranger Things.
