The parents of Gabby Petito have really handled her death publicly with grace. It was obvious Gabby was an amazing young woman. It’s a horribly sad story. Love and strength to all of you

I so admire Nicole and Jim, Joe and Tara for their endless energy in trying to help all those affected by DV and for missing children. I was abused in the late 70's, early 80's by my husband. The police wouldn't do anything, friends would not step in when he was beating me. I filed for divorce when I was seven months pregnant, battered and bruised, with 2 black eyes. Thankfully, I got out, but it certainly was not because of any help, it was my own strength. Awareness and Prevention are so important. Thank you for everything you are doing, from the bottom of my heart.

There is no doubt we need more (properly trained) police officers, social workers, counselors, first responders, educators, etc., etc. All of these services cost taxpayer’s money. We need to prioritize human lives rather than greed in our country. And more love and less hate! Thanks for changing the world for the better Nicole & Jim!!!

I was in an abusive relationship for 3 years. And I can tell you that I think the reason we keep going back is because we like the GOOD qualities in the person we are with. And we wrestle with that. It takes each of us a different amount of time to get fed up enough with the bad stuff in order to leave. I'm sure Gabby loved the good qualities in Brian and was struggling how to deal with his bad side. She sure was an angel and I'm sorry for your loss 🙏

Thank you, I enjoyed this interview. With respect I wish I never knew you all existed 😢 and you were living your lives pre their utter upturn. My hugs to you all from Australia 🇦🇺 ❤ My former husband and I are family, we have 2 teenage kids together, one with autism. I could have made his life horrible if I were that way inclined however I put my kids first and their relationship with their Dad. We have family dinner each week, I just decorated his new home for him and he helps me if I need something heavy lifted 😂 More so our kids are grateful for our family unit and their Mum and Dad are buds. It can happen if you think of your kids FIRST! XoX

The video from Southern Utah is still so hard for me to process after watching. I used to assume authorities were more organized. So much was gathered and not put together. Breaks my heart your sweet daughter didn't get more help especially there. Prayers your efforts bring hope to others who need it and prayers for your family as you navigate life when your sweet Gabby's presence is very much missed.

“Neither the Constitution, nor state law, impose a general duty upon police officers or other governmental officials to protect individual persons from harm - even when they know the harm will occur,” said Darren L. Hutchinson, a professor and associate dean at the University of Florida School of Law. “Police can watch someone attack you, refuse to intervene and not violate the Constitution.” The Supreme Court has repeatedly held that the government has only a duty to protect persons who are “in custody,” he pointed out.

Gabby called her mother from the backseat of the police cruiser. These statements are from the Petito v Moab lawsuit. 3. Gabby contacted her family to tell them that the couple had been fighting, that Brian had hit her, and that the police had been called. The family immediately responded by beginning to arrange for Gabby to fly home and to have her van shipped home, to separate her from Brian. 98. Gabby then called her parents. 99. On that call, Gabby’s parents demanded that Gabby fly home to get away from Brian, offering to pay for her ride to Salt Lake City and her flight home. But upon learning that the police were involved, Gabby’s parents accepted Gabby’s assurances that she should continue her trip. Gabby’s parents relied to their detriment on the police officers involved to evaluate the situation and intervene as necessary to protect Gabby. But for the officers’ failure to investigate and follow Utah law, Gabby’s parents would have intervened to end the trip and bring Gabby home.

Thank you Nicole, Jim, Tara, and Joe for speaking out. I am deeply touched by your courage and strength in the face of such a tragic loss. As a mother who has also experienced the devastating impact of domestic homicide and being a victim of domestic violence myself, my heart goes out to you all for the pain and grief you are going through. Your mission to bring awareness and effect positive change in the wake of Gabby's passing is truly commendable. Your determination to educate others about the realities of domestic violence and work towards preventing such tragedies from happening to other families is inspiring. Your voices and actions are powerful tools in the fight against this pervasive issue in our society. Your bravery in sharing your story and advocating for change will surely make a difference in the lives of many. My heart goes out to you both, and I stand in solidarity with you as you continue on this path of healing, education, and advocacy. I'd love to offer whatever assistance I might ever be, anytime. @rolo4945 Gabby begged the police to not separate them. She was a full grown adult 22 years old.

I wish people would realise abusers don't abuse you 24 hours a day 7 days a week there are times they act kind , pick u up when your down, say all the seemingly right things. While eroding your self esteem with the abuse, making it very confusing, walking on eggshells needing their love and approval while more and more isolated, being told your family and friends don't love you , giving you a false idea you are ugly mad and flawed etc etc. It is a whole mind fck, there may be children and no finances to eat without the abuser. It is a whole mind fck . The person is so concentrating on keeping the abuser from going off, they don't know what to do without that. They have almost lost their own personhood. That's why they can't "just leave" the brain is literally wired to focus on the protection of pets and or children and hypervigience on the slightest cue of behaviour changes in the abuser. It would be difficult to plan under such strain. They often don't even know it's abuse if they are coercive controlled and not being hit.
