Silver Reed Knitting Machines - Attaching SRP60N Ribbing Attachment

This video goes through the instruction book with you and shows you how to attach your ribber. I have demonstrated on the SK280 with SRP60N ribber, but the older SRP50 is attached in the same way, and all the 24st punchcard flatbed machines are broadly the same in terms of functionality.
Pay special attention to the auxiliary pieces that go at either end of the needle bed, and be sure you also add the main bed clamps at the sides, and push up the white spacers. These are far and away the most common faults I see with ribbers that aren't adjusted properly. Very rarely, should you have to adjust the ribber height on the back of the bed.

Hi Sally - Thank you! My husband & I have just worked through your video and spotted the one thing that was wrong with my SRP60N ribber set-up on the SK840 knitter. The Auxillary pieces had been set 'under' the end of the knit bed rather than slotted over, resulting in the sinker posts being too far apart from the knit bed. Removal & refitting correctly solved that problem & we found that the shims could be removed from the ribber stopper as it was now fitting flush against the knit bed. A simple but vital remedy that has made all the difference 😀

Thank you for this! I changed a needle in my Srp60n the other day and noticed there was a spongy strip on the needle retainer. Is this correct?

Not usually. On the ribbers the needle retainer is usually just a plastic bar.

I should clarify this by saying STANDARD gauge ribbers are usually just a plastic bar. My mid gauge and chunky machine have sponge bars in the ribber, this is normal.

I appreciate the effort however, the insufficient camera positioning caused too much to be out of view. For a layman, it was very frustrating to try and make sense of. It would be very helpful if you would re-shoot with machines in full view. I would suggest using two cameras with different viewpoints then using iMovie or some other editing tool to cut between views. This could be accomplished with a cell phone and tablet mounted to a piece of furniture from the rear and side views. What “was” extremely valuable though was that the SRP60N is just a ribber (which was given to me with NO instructions) and therefore has been sitting in a closet for more than a year because I had no clue of how to use it. I got nowhere Googling and YouTubing, trying to locate a user’s manual. I was going to throw it in the trash out of frustration. Your video has at least cleared up my confusion. If I understand correctly, I am missing a necessary (upper) component. So thank you.

Thanks for your comments, which I take on board. It’s hard to film all the detail with just an ipad. I have previously said my videos are supposed to support the instruction books, not replace them. You can get free downloads of instruction books and maintenance manuals from machineknittingetc.com. You also need to know that Silver Reed machines have formerly been badged as Studio, Singer, Knitmaster and Empisal, depending on where they were being sold. Yes, the ribber is useless on its own, it is an accessory to a main bed knitting machine. Yours is compatible with all the 24 stitch punchcard models by Silver Reed (or the names above), as well as the newer electronic model the SK840. The different brand names don’t make any difference to the machine - so a Studio 700 is EXACTLY the same as a Knitmaster 700. I hope this helps.
