Just gonna throw in a comment, this summer it was getting to 100-110 in Texas. On longer drives I was sitting between 170-180 with it maybe going to 190 if I would get stuck in traffic. I just went back to these because we experienced our first cooler days of 60 and it was taking a while for it to get over 100 but after about 20 minutes I am sitting at 130. This does work great if installed properly!
@fishman8010 ай бұрын
yeah it’s dictated based off of the ambient temperature outside. So if it’s really hot outside, you’re still gonna be on the 180 range which is fine. The key is you have fluid flow constantly now.

@@sbc_jake_9677 , I heard from a YT video someone saying that the reason the original thermal bypass valve was designed to open for cooling at 194 °F (or 90 °C) is due to Federal Government regulations to get higher mpg. The hotter the fluid is the thinner it gets, which would enable higher mpg. However, I think GM failed in providing a transmission fluid cooler coil that’s capable of sufficiently cooling the fluid for city stop and go driving as well as towing something (highway driving is ok - doesn’t overheat, because of cooling air with speed). Also, it appears that over time, the thermal bypass internal gets clogged up a bit with fluid gunk or deteriorating components rendering it to operate inefficient that leads to creeping up higher temperatures.

I can't believe this either. Ive blown 3 torque converters and had my transmission rebuilt 3 times under warranty within 2000 miles of each other and by doing my research this is the product that I think is going to be a savior. the common denominator of each failure was long trip and by my house in southern ca we have a toll road hill that is long and pretty big and it takes my torque converter out and I believe the fluid is just way to hot.

Nice upgrade! Your video title should really not have the the words "Thermostat Delete" though, since you are actually doing a Thermostat Upgrade. Your statement about not having to warm up the transmission to check the fluid level may not be correct, because you still have a thermostat installed, so the fluid temperature will still need to be above the installed thermostat rating before it opens and allows fluid flow through transmission cooler.

Yeah it sucks. It DOES keep your oil cool for longer but it creeps up until 195 and by that point the truck has noway to cool the fluid at all cus you have no thermostat. I found out that GM made a recall on this for 2014-2015 trucks and you have to buy new trans lines with the upgraded thermostat. In Louisiana the heat was 100-105 outside and trans temp never got over 180 with the upgraded transmission thermostat/coolant lines.
@mattkintosh3823 Жыл бұрын

I always recommend doing more research. But trust me you do not want high temps in these transmissions. I have been a tech for over 15 years now and GM tech for most of it. The only reason they are allowing these transmission to get so hot is for fuel economy. Just so they can add that extra and make it look good. I would rather have my transmission properly cooled and lose a small amount of fuel economy. So little you will not even notice.

I did order this thermal bypass kit and will be comparing it to the mishimoto one that came with the transmission cooler.. I installed the mishimoto cooler with the thermal bypass delete and went on a long highway drive with outside temp at 85 and noticed the transmission temp never went over 150 degrees, upon returning in town and driving around some more trans temp fluctuate between 127-135... plus I noticed it shifts smoother. I'm just concerned if these are good temp and not too cold since dealership said normal operation temp is around 180 and up.

They also say normal oil for these trucks is 5w20 yet when they sell the same Gen V engines for commercial use (where they dont care about MPG) they recommend 5w30... Dont listen to the GM engineers at this point, they only care about CAFE standards and not longevity of thier products.

based on what I've been reading it can be an issue in a cold climate (Northern parts of America), so new GM TBV is recommended. The new TBV opens up at 70 C / 158 F, which would keep the engine around 165 F in warmer temps and closer to 158 F in colder temps. I'm planning on getting the new GM TBV because I don't want to void my warranty plus the installing the new TBV on 2016 - 2020 Suburban is super easy. Will switch later when I'm out of warranty based on feedback from people who have done either one of the modifications/upgrades.

This isn’t the best modification for the colder climates. I have had this bypass/delete installed for a year now, and I’ve found the operating temp is far too cold for my liking thru the winter. For most of the winter, I have only seen the hottest operating temp Of 70 degrees F. I don’t think this is a good idea for transmissions to run that cold. I would suggest putting in the updated 155 thermostat for the winter months if you’re running empty with no load.
@gerardocuarez9034 Жыл бұрын
O you recommend to not do it,for those that live in the cold state?
@jaybilawchuk2225 Жыл бұрын
@@gerardocuarez9034 I don’t know. I’m not saying not to do it, but up here in Canada last winter, my transmission temps never went above 55 degrees F for the whole winter. I won’t know if that’s bad to run it that cold or not, but that’s not running anywhere near to what normal operating temps are.
@jaybilawchuk2225 Жыл бұрын
I should also add…..in the summertime, this is a great mod to run in the warmer temps of the summer. Pulling a camper at any time, the temps consistently stay about 50 degrees cooler than before. Always about 140 to 150 now. Before the mod, they all run right around 200 to 220….that’s scary stuff when pulling.

So, did GM purposely overheat these transmissions?
@ትኒጧትንኝ2 жыл бұрын
I heard from a YT video someone saying that the reason the original thermal bypass valve was designed to open for cooling at 194 °F (or 90 °C) is due to Federal Government regulations to get higher mpg.
@rygrego86873 жыл бұрын
You always check the fluid hot and running no matter if it's going through the cooler or not. Do not listen to this guy.
