Silverback Gorilla Heads To Check On His Elderly Female | The Shabani Group

a rainy day in March 2024.
The gorillas had gotten their food outside at breakfast time and quickly returned indoors.
However, Nene, an elderly female gorilla, did not come back inside, so Shabani ran outside to pick her up.
After a while, they all came back inside and relaxed in the warm room.

Nene was born wild in Cameroon.
The other three were born in the Higashiyama Zoo in Japan.

Shabani is a good protector and wants everyone together as a troop or in human words, "family" I guess that's his way of telling Nene to get back inside with the others. This family likes the warmth of shelter not the cold wet outside,they like a cushy life, just like us😁

I agree! Shabani's own personality, especially with expressing compassion & emotions, has really been absorbed by everyone in the family. It's like he gave them a gift. They all wear their hearts on their sleeve and are one of the most closest gorilla families I've seen. I can see why so many of you have been commited to this family for several years, they really are amazing.❤

Shabani is wonderful. He strikes the ideal balance of being where he takes his job as silverback seriously but also is congenial, lighthearted and always kind and loving to his family. I worry Shabani will become out of sorts when his children leave the nest though. I worry about him then. He loves his children very much and his zest for life seems to come from them. I’d love for Shabani to have another baby. I think it will console him and make any separation from his grown children (Annie and Kiyo) easier for him to bear when that dreaded time comes. ♥️🦍

Nene has 2 children Ai and Kiyo, and 1 grandchild Annie. Shabani is the father of Kiyo and Annie but “not” Ai hope that helps 😊
