Burglar-proofing your home with the Ultimate Strike Plate.
Over the years the number of home burglaries have been on the rise. Burglars have become more sophisticated. Anyone can easily gain access to your home by forcefully kicking the door.
you can no longer just rely on just the locks on your door to keep your house safe. This has created a need for more strong security measures.
There have been various solutions offered in the market towards mitigating this problem. However, most of these methods can be easily overcome. In a report by the Federal Bureau of Investigation showed that most of the home break-ins are caused by burglars who kick in doors.
Most solutions in the market involve the traditional deadbolt systems which are still vulnerable to kicks by burglars. This has created a need for more advanced security measures to be taken to safeguard your home.
This is where new inventions like the door frame reinforcement strike plate come in.
How Door Frame and Hinge Reinforcement Works
This involves the strengthening of doors and hinges such that they are resistant to kick-ins by burglars.
A good door frame reinforcement product should be able to strengthen the soft wood door into an impenetrable barrier. This can be done by placing a steel plate on the door frame and reinforcing it with long steel screws which bite into the wall studs surrounding the door frames. Then This reinforces both the casing and the door hinges.
The door strike plate system apart from just providing security can be tweaked so as to allow it to be painted.
This enables the homeowner to match the reinforcement system with the color of the house.
The system can be installed quickly, and there is no need to cut or remove the door casing. The system is adjustable to fit the door frames of various types of doors including double entry doors and doors with side lights. This security system has been installed across many homes without any reports of the doors being breached by burglars.
The homes have been across the country ranging from crime-prone areas to areas with low crime levels.
Other benefits of the reinforcement strike plate
The cost of the reinforcement system is a good bargain given that it almost offers you a lifetime of protection since the plates and the nails are made of stainless steel which does not rust.
There are also no maintenance services needed, thus no extra costs associated with the system. The system is so good such that you do not need to buy extra locks. Apart from reinforcing the door the security system also repairs any damaged doors and strengthens broken door frames.
This eliminates the possibility of future damage to the door. Whatever option you may want to go for depends on what you really want for your security.
Making your home secure is no longer a luxury but a necessity. The only sure fire way to burglar proof your home is to use the door frame and hinge reinforcement strike plate. This removes the fear of burglars forcefully gaining access into your home.

We have metal doors and these on on them as well. Also the hinges have these little lips that stick out to keep the door from being kicked off the hinges as well. Upgraded all the screws to 4 inch screws as well. The front door I installed 2 of these things on the top that you can flip down when you are home to also help with kicking in. I've not put it to the test but I am certain nobody could kick in my doors and would need a battering ram or smash into it with a vehicle. That along with security film on all my windows and cameras and motion sensors and door and window sensors my place is locked down like fort Knox. Last line of defense if someone did make it in successful they would not be walking out alive.

I would highly recommend using those door reinforcement plates on the bolts. Just as a visible deterrent it will save you a lot of grief. Thieves would try kicking the door leaving dents and shoe prints if they think there are no backing plates. I have a door with glass windows, so the first thing thieves see is a glass break alarm next to the bolt, the next thing they see is the metal plate screw mounted over the deadbolts, the third thing they see is the tint on the window so they can't see into the house. The more layers they see, the more hurdles they have to get around.

It never hurts to reinforce the doorframe, I made one of these out of some angle iron but it doesn't look as nice as yours..lol. I also spent a few dollars on a video security system, they're not that expensive anymore and it allows you to check on your place when your not home or get a warning to your smartphone if the system detects any problems. Thanks for your efforts making videos to help people do things themselves, and ignore the buttholes that have nothing better to do than spread their negativity around. I've noticed that just about every video has the haters commenting. Thanks again and have an awesome day.

Europe is ages ahead U.S.A. in this kind of things, maybe because we can't rely on firearms to protect ourselves inside our homes, take a look at the kind of front doors we use to have in our common houses, I mean, not in jewelries, banks and so on. Nobody wants a wood frame and wood door over here and locks are also very advanced too. Greetings from Spain. kzbin.info/www/bejne/rqO6h2yan6-dhMk and kzbin.info/www/bejne/goGXmn2PetKkq6c

To all viewers out there...my door got kicked in by a burglar or something who was just angry at me for not being home. I just went the store in the evening when I got home my door was ajar. So I tried to look around at ACE hardware store for something like this. My door jamb was damaged. So what i did was use a metal-stud strap plate I installed it and made a 3/4 inch hole and put it on the backside of the door jamb. I'm confident the next time the perpetrator won't be able to kick in my door. But I like to purchase this plate in this video. 👍 But like I said folks I used a 6 inch wide flatstrap the metal-stud framers use and I used some self tapping screws metal-stud screws which have a lot of holding strength. I'm a metal-stud framer.

just kidding, I liked the video but the product seems like you could get a lot more for the money. I pulled out my door frames and replaced them with 4 x 8 studs that I made from raw lumber and welded some steel caps on both sides and top anchored with 3/4" lags then built a 3" thick door with integrated woven steel inserts inside of the door w/ 1" pivot hinges and a brass / steel, 2 key, 5 point dead bolt for about $160.00 If I remember right the steel I used to completely frame my doors was about 30 bucks

25 cent steel? That would be an option, but the kit he used has 3 sections designed to overlap and with cut-outs for the dead bolt and latch, and it comes with the required screws--no looking for them. I dunno what the kit costs, but there's some value to having what you need all together.

One thing you can do instead of installing the plate ( and do it differently, mind you ) is back out the small 1" screws and replace ALL of them with 4" screws, on the latch side as well as the hinge side. If you have a solid door and frame it's gonna be VERY HARD for anyone to kick in your door, with those 4" screws, makes all the difference !

I would remove the one piece of casing and install shims between the stud and jam at each new screw location so when you tighten the screws it doesn't open door jam reval and have a big gap. just my opinion

didn't hand tightening the screws (after drilling proper pilot holes) keep that from happening?
@RJ-kg5jh
@RJ-kg5jh 4 жыл бұрын
As long as he doesnt throttle the screws in with a heavy duty impact there is no risk of deforming the door opening. The foam that is in between the door jamb and stud is high density and heavy enough to prevent even moderate deformation of the door jamb. The biggest mistake he made was in thinking that the drill bit length makes any difference whatsoever. Even the best custom build door jambs are only 3/4" thick wood and piloting the length of the screw even if we assume he is trying to reach well beyond the stud is not necessary. He could save time by just using one bit. Lol at people complaining about using ceramic tile as a backing during the drilling process - even a cobalt bit isnt putting a hole in tile without serious intent.

The second door plate that wraps is at least as important as the frame plate, if your door is wood. Many tactics will still override these reinforcements, as the frame can be pryed open unless it has been beefed up between the frame and nearest studs.

I think the longer screws that go through the first piece of wood and into the actual door frame is really all the security you need in the strike plate area and replacing two screws in each hinge. The fire department would have to come through the door itself than the frame around it. No foot or shoulder is gonna break it down.

I'd like to see cutouts for the strike plates instead of drilling them out, looks like you could cut yourself bad or damage the floor if you slip with the drill.A lot of criticisms of the usefulness of this reinforced strike plate, but I'm for anything that makes a little more difficult for a burglar. That's the best you can do for most residences.

@zackiinu7194

Let’s be honest; any modifications that require deeper and/or additional holes for screws into the wood on your door and/or door frame only weakens the wood. For such a small amount of wood on your door and door frame, less mass equals much less strength. Instead of drilling away the wood on your door frame, get a Nightlock door barricade, which is mounted into the solid concrete floor, or get something similar to the Security Door Bar (by Securadoor). You should also have a good outside motion detection system to alert you of intruders around the perimeter of your home. I found Guardline to be the best. You can easily add relays to the system, such as an alarm and strobe light. Lastly and personally, I also keep a cellphone and handgun on me at all times while at home.

Can this product be used on a double entry door? One of the doors is always locked but can be opened when moving furniture in or out of the house.

I would only recommend one change from what you said in the video. If your house is newer your front and other exterior doors all have double studs ( two 2x4's) which equals 4" of stud depth. Your door frame has 1" depth. So in total there is 5" of depth that you can screw into at the hinges. Use 4" deck screws instead of 3". With 4" deck screws they will go completely through the door frame, thru the first stud, and halfway into the second stud! 3" screws won't reach into the second stud at all. Those could be used on the hinge that connects to the door, but use 4" for the hinge that attaches to the door frame. Nice video otherwise.

2x4 does not mean 2 inches.. 1.5 at best.. thats why you get 3 inch screws
@stipcrane
@stipcrane 6 жыл бұрын
In what country is a 2x4 two inches thick?! Even if they were three inches thick, who says you need to go though two studs? Biting into 2" of studs is plenty, because the shaft of the screw will certainly snap before the thread will withdraw from 2" of wood. Try it with a crowbar sometime. Also I have doubts that a 4" screw will have a head small enough to fit the countersink of the hinge.
@jeffm.2119
@jeffm.2119 6 жыл бұрын
2x4s are actually 1 1/2” x 3 1/2”. So (2) 2x4s and a 1” framing piece (actually 3/4”) would only be about 3 3/4” total.

Allan Johnson I’m guessing that the included screws have different “strength” ratings than deck screws. Tensile, shear, torque all play and the application/use case drives the characteristics of selecting the “right” screw.

When one link of a chain is reinforced it only means that it some other link will break. If the strike plate is reinforced, then the door will break. If the hinges are reinforced at the jamb, then the hinge plate on the door will tear out. If you willing to put all that ugly hardware on your door, why not just put a deadbolt above and below the knob to spread out the stress of impact? That's the key. Also, mortise in two more hinges on the hinge side so that side cannot be kicked in. I can't imagine any thief who thought his foot was capable of breaking two bolts and a latch at once.

Maybe it makes sense if the door opens by swinging out, but if the opens swing in, then it makes zero sense to install this product unless you have lots of chump change to spare. The whole idea is to prevent break-ins and won't stop you from going out of your home.
@S.E.Locksmith

It makes sense to install it in both scenarios. You see what holding the door is really the frame and it doesn’t really matter if it’s a swinging in or out type of door, good reinforcement is highly recommended for any door

If the crack is on the door, use a round plate of steel where the knob is mounted. If it's on the frame, the door frame armor should help that. But I would look for an armor kit that uses one solid strip of steel

good product, better would be a whole door wrap that encompasses the deadbolt as opposed to just the door edge. That said, very poor security specialist advise to not install even the door edge reinforcement. if there is not sufficient gap, create it with jig and router to make the clearance sufficient to have both the strike reinforcement and door edge wrap not rub ! also check hinges to make sure they are in good repair and not allowing the door to sag.. don't address symptom, fix the issues as well. good advise on the hinge screws to put in longer screws. also, you can minimize the risk of breaking off the screw heads with drilling the correct size hole for the screw, lubricating the screw threads with a bar of soap, wd-40, etc... AND not having your #2 phillips bit cam out of the screw head by using an impact driver instead of a drill motor... 40 years in the business, in case you want to know...

Sounds like you know what you talking about... “40 years in the business” so my respect to you. One thing you totally forgot, that most people here on KZbin looking to have fast, cheap and affective security solutions and not working their a*s o*f To make their front door to be Fort Knox. Of course there is more things that can be done to increase security in general but the door strike is in fact the weakest point and this video teach you to fix this issue.

the plate that goes over the latch is a really good one to have if you can get it to fit when the door shuts because if you don't have a deadbolt or forgot to lock the one you have, all a person needs to do it is jam a flathead screwdriver in between the door and the frame near the doorknob and pry while ramming the door with their shoulder. thats how people broke into my house, i still don't feel like my stuff is safe while im not home

Why not use 3 inch screws for every hole on the strike Plate?
@S.E.Locksmith
@S.E.Locksmith 5 жыл бұрын
That’s a great question! Because not all the holes are closed to the inside door stud location. the inside stud is usually located close to the line of the door weather stripping and goes farther in - about 2 inch. that’s way other holes will not hit the stud. Check out my video on the 11 inch security door Strike Plate - it’s much easier to install, cheaper to buy and give you a great security as well if not the same as the Ultimate Door Strike Plate (this Video): kzbin.info/www/bejne/iaq8k42wqq2habM

Use a hack saw blade and not a drill to remove the plates and then file down or sand down any sharp edges. That "plastic thing" is weather stripping that needs to be put back in place when done. Use a center punch before drilling. More than one plate does not provide you any better security than multiple plates. If it was all one plate that would be much better. A wood chisel will give you a much more professional cut than will a carbide bit. That deadbolt cover is worthless, it will do nothing. Don't just buy any woodscrews, buy hardened wood screws like SPAX for example. BTW, Ring Doorbells are 1K which is not enough resolution for identifying a face or a license plate. Buy 4K security cameras only.

Some extra protection when you are at home is a bar holder from lowes. Two of them are 12$ total and you just drill them in using some long wood screws. Stick a 2 x 4 on them and no one is breaking through that door.
