I have had one for 8 years and have always felt kind of isolated in my experience. It’s a condo, but I’m renting. So 1. The landlord won’t allow cameras on the outside 2. Even if he did, the HOA doesn’t. If I could mount cameras on the outside, my go to brand is Alibi Security.

Hey George, I enjoyed the tour of your house, thanks. I was looking forward to seeing the Alibi cameras you speak of and network you use with them, but didn't see any. I am new to home automation and currently control the garage door with a smart door opener (Tail Wind) and the lawn sprinkler system with a rain bird ESP-me. I would like to do something with the door bell however, if you put yourself in a 3 foot square box with door in front of you, our current doorbell button is in the wall to your left mid way out. So no angle bracket made would show you who was at the door or who is approaching the door. I would love to find a good peep hole camera with package monitor to replace the peephole in the door. I've still got a lot to learn. One thing I hate is batteries. I wouldn't mind wiring everything with a POE network.

Glad you enjoyed it. Thanks for watching! I can’t do Alibi here for two reasons: 1. I rent here & the landlord won’t allow it (not to mention the homeowners association doesn’t either). 2. Even if they did, the design of this building isn’t very wired camera friendly. The 3 story design & lack of attic doesn’t really allow for the wiring required. Otherwise, I’d have Alibi all over the place.

7:04 have you thought about doing like Zooz, Inovelli or Brilliant there? a Lutron Auora would work, or RGBGenie, you could even use a pico remote connected to through hubitat with a lutron pro bridge and map the buttons out to control all sorts of things

They are fine for a monitored burglar alarm, but their cameras are horrible. In general, I’m not a fan of the monitored systems. I prefer the DIY with no fees. But if you’re going for monitored, and don’t need cameras, they are the best.

@@GeorgeLangabeer yeah i use Automated Living's HAL® system it was a head of it time and just checked there still in business .. i had to put mic into the wall of each room even had a wireless keyboard the whole system was running on windows 2000 server dail up 56k moderm lol the funny thing it worked smooth .. i think the big difffrence now days is the cost so cheap now compared to i back then i think i paid 300$ for 100 meg hard drive it was really big back then lol

George, here is a co-y of my comment to Eric welander: Eric, I watch your videos and George Langabeer’s religiously and I have tried the Eufy doorbell and 2 wemo smart switches. You need to warn the average person that this stuff is impenetrable for the average person. Either that or the quality of this stuff is very poor. Specifics: Eufy doorbell works ok but 1) the battery seems much worse than advertised, 2) the app is not at all intuitive and 3) I can’t figure out how to turn off the stupid “ may I help you” automatic message. Wemo- I got it working in Apple home to turn on and off (big whoop!) but I can’t get the timer to work. It shouldn’t be this hard. So I gave up on home and tried wemo app. Can’t get app to recognize the devices. Clearly your videos and George’s aren’t designed for average person. Suggestions? (Other than spending my Saturdays on the 800 numbers?).

1. Which Eufy Doorbell are you talking about? I find the Eufy App to be very intuitive and easy to use. I get a lot of feedback from our customer saying the same. 2. I never did a video on WeMo Smart Switches and have never mentioned a WeMo Smart Switch. So I guess I’m confused by your comment…

@senorbart For me, i’m the opposite. When I was a kid, my parents got a divorce (when I was 7). I lived mostly with my single mom & she worked her butt off for every penny. When “Nike Airs” first came out, having a pair was a status symbol at my school. At first she didn’t have the money to buy me some, but she worked extra to save money so she could. When she finally did, I was so proud of those shoes. That was my first experience with Nike. But then through the hip-hop culture (Run DMC, LL COOL J, etc), I found Adidas. I was all about Adidas from that point on, UNTIL, I recently saw that damn “Air” movie (about the Jordan story). Changed my life. Lol…mostly because it got me to research the CEO of Nike & much like Steve Jobs, I really like the way he ran the company. The same way I run SilverHammer & the same way Steve Jobs ran Apple. Next thing you know, I’m selling $35K worth of Adidas on FB Marketplace (including 110 pair of shoes). Lol 😋. Bought Nike ever since.
