Much more fun to watch than the clinical winged bull of modern saloon car racing.

Great racing. And skill rather than fender-banging. Rare here in USA. I love these cars, and the skill it takes to propel them. Thank you very much.

The Galaxie, identified as a 1965 is actually a 1963. The Mercury Comet, Ford Falcon and Mustang are all built on the same platform.
@FishNFoolLures21 күн бұрын
The Mustang, Comet and Falcon were not really built on the same chassis. They shared the same basic unibody construction, but the wheelbases were quite different. The Mustang was a 108" wheelbase, while the Falcon had a 109.5", and the 2 door Comet was 114".

The evolution of the big American cars in the British saloon car championship is interesting. Galaxies, think the willment/Jack Sears car may have come from Holman and Moody in 63, at least two of the Mustangs in 65 were ex Alan Mann Monte cars, the Falcons were heavily modified from standard for 67 championship. Great to see these old birds battling it out, the brakes which were a weak point in period, are now fully sorted.

I thought that the big Fords all had the Kelsey-Hayes 4 pistons as an option for racing in 1964.

The Commentator needs to be educated if he thinks the Ford Galaxies, Falcon Sprints & Mustangs identical engines. The Galaxies have 7-litres of big block V8, whereas the other two have a 289cid small block between the front wheels.
@kinikinrd2 жыл бұрын
If the Galaxies actually had 427s, they were just there for the show. The 427 Galaxies at Goodwood would pass three small cars in every short straightaway.

You should watch the entire video and take note of how he corrects himself and points out the Galaxies have 7 litre big blocks, before commenting.

We had European divisions of Ford and GM and that was about it, so you'll be pushed to find any Mopars racing in the 1960's in Europe due to lack of dealer backup. In the 1970's Chevrolets started showing up on the tracks which was fun kzbin.info/www/bejne/mZLac4uNjMykeas

@@ianbrown9082 that’s interesting! I guess my comment was a bit tongue in cheek as I’m an avid MOPAR fan of the 50’s to early 70’s, but I love classic car racing, I guess Mopars were more nascar and drag racing across the pond, but for big old cars, they handle pretty well, (if you know how to drive them) fast as well, I wonder if they could’ve dominated circuit racing of the day as well? Fords and Chevys of that era drove and handled like tea trollies, or at least the street cars did, I guess if today’s rules are traditional, it’s something we’ll never see, I’m very hands on and own several mid 60’s on Mopars, but heading for the drag strip! 👍

What a better spectacle it would have been if the Yankee trucks had had their own race, leaving proper saloons to race. I must say I find it VERY BORING watching the Yankee trucks. When I think about the Americans, they have never built any great sub-2 litre racing engines. They can only beat real cars by using massive truck engines. 6:39 minutes just had to stop watching.
