This is actually one of my favorite music videos. The meaning behind the song is very compassionate. And I think the randomness of people moving with the minimalistic clothing/background make it intentially hard to understand it on the outside looking in much like people do when they "try to help". It all basically highlights that breaking down one's problems doesn't help the way they feel, people just want to be heard not diagnosed. This really amazing I'm so glad they're still making music.

I've been watching and listening thinking maybe it's about mental health, but actually that the song is from the perspective of the emotions. Listening again I prefer your perspective though! I feel like the bits with very decisive answers are gut feelings (stay or go, Go!) And the emotions are saying they have to be heard, you can't understand them, but they absolutely exist regardless of whether you know "why", and so they are just Known. The emotions are trying to help, and comfort, and help us with self awareness, but we don't always let them in.

AN ABSOLUTE MASTERPIECE... TOTAL JAM. TOTAL JAM.
@Leigthal_5 жыл бұрын
Interpretation At first I thought it was just a stylised weird choreographed video but after many watches I’ve realised It actually syncs surprisingly well with the lyrical themes. The lyrics primarily concern themselves with the idea of disconnection in modern social connections. Perhaps Alluding to social media- continuing the theme from their earlier song “Connection” (from Better Nature). Social media has kinda given us this view into other people’s lives while making us feel more alone: “Feeling like you’re on your own - oh no” “Is it greener on the other side? - No” “will it help you sleep at night? -it won’t” “It doesn’t matter why we’re known, we’re just known” Ie. everyone is known to everyone but nobody truly connects with one and other. The people start out opening their eyes and then try to connect with one and other, poking each other or attempting to embrace. There’s also others on their own trying to move freely and finding themselves stuck, moving rigidly at the start in an uncomfortable way. ^ This movement is quite metaphoric of how we move through life, trying to form meaningful connections when technology creates uncomfortable barriers. Some stare at their own hands, as if trying to make sense of themselves. Towards the end with the lyrics “And if it all goes right, you’ll see in our eyes” We see people starting to transcend the disconnection: with smiles, fun dances and embraces made between people. This is a nice kind of watershed moment. “Your on your own, and in your eyes - you finally see we’ve all gone blind!” “Have we all gone blind?” Then as this bridge ends we see some people blink as if they have realised some truth or reset their approach to how to connect ... while others lapse or remain disconnect from one and other, seemingly entranced. As the song ends Brian puts his hand to his chest, a sort of way to say he hopes we take to heart the message.

I feel like the chorus is probably the key, "it doesn't matter why we're known, we're just known", but what the hell does that mean? Known by who? Why doesn't it matter? Who thinks it matters the reason that they're known? Known in what way? You said he's singing evil? You think it's like the voice of doubt in someone's mind or a demon or something? Saying shit to fuck with people "you're all alone" "life has no meaning" "nothing matters". Reading through the lyrics again maybe he's talking to someone that cares about him, that just wants the best for him, but he keeps pretty much telling to go fuck themselves, and the person he's taking to sees that he and everyone one else like him have doomed themselves or made themselves suffer or something. Ahh this is frustrating lol. I really have no idea I'm just throwing ideas against a wall lol Anyway please let me know what you think about all of this.
