You forget "Tischfeuerwerk" and "Bleigießen", this would happen before midnight. And we most time would make our fireworks in our street and not on central places.

Depends on where you live I'd say. When there's no central area in the vicinity you could go to, people mostly stay at home or in their neighborhood streets.

Krapfen: here in the Dutch speaking part of Belgium we call them "Boules de Berlin". My parents called them "Berliner". Wikipedia has this to say: Berliner: Westdeutschland (ohne Hessen und Bayern), Mecklenburg, Schweiz Berliner Ballen im Raum Ruhrgebiet/Sauerland/Niederrhein Faschingskrapfen: Österreich, Schwerpunkt in Tirol, entsprechend dem Verbreitungsgebiet des Begriffs Fasching[5] Glaskrapfen: Österreich, Hausruckviertel und Traunviertel Kreppel: Hessen, Rheinhessen (Rheinland-Pfalz), Thüringen Kräppel: Hessen, vornehmlich im Rhein/Main-Gebiet (Frankfurt am Main) Krapfen: Bayern und Österreich Pfannkuchen: Berlin, Ostdeutschland (ohne Mecklenburg) Puffel: Aachen und Umgebung Schmalzgreben - Fastnachtsküchle/-küchelchen:Baden-Württemberg und Pfalz/Saarland (ohne Füllung)

I’m going to spend my first New Year’s Eve here in Germany. I’m really excited!! But maybe, no fireworks this year? I haven’t seen any in the stores.
@simplegermany3 жыл бұрын
Yes, they are not allowed to be sold this year due to Covid. So you may only see a few from people who still have some at home. Still enjoy! 😊
@karinland85333 жыл бұрын
Usually (with out covid) fireworks are sold between christmas and new year, not earlyer and only allowed to fire them, I think for a week or so. For birthdays or marriage celebrations during the year you need to get a permission. Because some people loose ther brain and act stupid, new year is the buissiesed day in the emergency ward. Thats why this year and last year there were no fireworks allowed.
@leDespicable3 жыл бұрын
There'll still be fireworks, especially in border regions. Only sales of fireworks were banned this year, shooting them is still allowed. Here in my area lots of people drove into Austria and bought fireworks there...the ban is very useless in general lol

I can confirm the madness here in Germany, and despite being German myself, I hate it. XD I now always stay inside on New Year's Eve, because the fireworks terrify me. In my area, the people also shoot them in residential streets, not just in the city center. One time about 20 years ago, was especially scary for me. Back then, I lived in another city, and my partner had the idea to take our car up on a hill to a park, from which we would be able to see the fireworks across the whole city. We never got there, because the traffic in one of the neighborhood streets got totally jammed, and then it was midnight and people started lighting the fireworks right there in the street. We were stuck there and some idiots deliberately threw fireworks under our car, where they then exploded!! It really was like a war zone. I thought, we'd die in that car. 😕I'd prefer, if fireworks weren't allowed like that, and only lit like at the Brandenburger Tor in Berlin, where everybody can watch safely and enjoy them, without potentially getting injured.

I currently live in Kansas City, Missouri, and we don't generally have a lot of fireworks on New Years Eve. There are lots of parties and drinking, but I don't remember any "big" fireworks situations on New Years Eve. Now, if you want fireworks, Independence Day (July 4th) in America is when you will experience massive displays by cities and towns as well as many individuals shooting fireworks in the neighborhoods. We have everything from simple "sparklers" and firecrackers to what Jen called a "machine gun" all the way up to mortars. The fireworks on sticks are considered "small" here. You will see single shot mortars up to multiple shot "cake" mortars. I have built mortar racks that can be pre-loaded with mortar shells (huge explosions high in the air, shells are 2 - 3 inches in diameter) and have shot over 400 mortars during an Independence Day celebration. My neighborhood is on the flight path for Kansas City International Airport. When the fireworks start going off on July 4th, I often wonder what the passengers on those planes think! It is an absolute war zone in my neighborhood with fireworks going off steadily from about 9:00 p.m. to 2:00 a.m.

Believe me or not, there's fireworks outside (in Plovdiv, Bulgaria) Right now as I watch this video!! Our folks start eeeaarly with the fireworks and they go literally non stop between the 27th and through the whole Rutsch! I can't say I agree with this practise but I'm.. I was gonna say painfully used.. no, I hope it never becomes "painful" to experience! 😅 I can't help remembering Gandalf from "The Lord of The Rings" with all the detailed description of various fireworks. 🧙♂ But tell me something. How is "Dinner For One" being broadcasted 7-8 times in the day.. "not that extreme"? 😂 😂 I loved that! Dealing and keeping safe with all the craziness that you literally showed us is SO SO important! And you always find a way to bring up a serious and potentially dangerous stuf so that it doesn't Actually scare! You're wonderful! 😉 Which brings me to what you said about the boats. So in Düsseldorf that should be a verz good choice, right? Also, more similarities of tradition, as champaigne at Midnight and all-night long festivities are a must! 🙂 I now have a whole year to stay informed and prepare for very much hopefully my first Silvester in Germany.

Tbf, we have our fair share of villages going crazy as well. In our district there's a popular spot near a chapel that's located on a small plateau from which you have a spectacular view over the region. There are tons of people there every New Year's eve, and it's like a warzone there lol

And let's not forget: New years are to celebrate in all our unique ways. Some are quiet, some are overplanned, some surprise, and some bring love! They should not focus on wrongs, they (with or without us) will signify hope. They serve History and hard times or innovative drive, a new year IS that reminiscence of universal youth. Fireworks are controversial, but I hardly can think of something which is not.. Have a merry slide, all!

I always hated New Years my entire life. As a kid I went to bed extremely early even in my teen years so new years was just a really bad night of sleep for me. I also never enjoyed loud noises. They make my spine shiver and i feel very sick and uncomfortable. The older I got the more I managed those things but I was still not a fan of it. And now that all the noise on new years is gone due to covid I miss it.... You get so used to it and notice how many tradition you adapted yourself even if you didn't enjoy it.

Dinner for One simply uses several clichés that Germans had about the British in the 1960s. In Britain, for example, there has not been such a strong disempowerment of the nobility as was the case in Germany, for example, so it was quite possible that a lady of class could definitely afford a servant. The fictional guests also corresponded more to a guest list of the 19th century, when England was still a world power. Today the presented humor seems more or less dusty, in the 60s it was exotic enough for the Germans to roll over the rather simple humor.

Wieder mal sehr informativ! Prosit Neujahr!

Maybe it’s just a cultural difference thing that I need to get used to, and maybe it’s just this tiny slice of Berlin, but blasting fireworks directly at other people with zero regard for their safety is pretty in character for most of the Germans I’ve interacted with so far.
