I don’t remember this game being so frustrating. This was one of my comfort games as a kid. I would spend hours growing plants, playing with animals, and trying to get all the achievements. I will say the fact that animals attacked and ate each other was really upsetting as a kid but other than that I found it so calming. I also didn’t notice the graphics either. Tbh, this is still probably one of my comfort games. I really wish they would have improved on the gameplay because if they did it would have been an amazing game.

I played this game as a kid and I found out that if you turn the game off when an animal is in your backpack they get so pissed. I worked so hard to get a cat to like me, then I put it in my bag turned the game off, put it in a new area, ended up having an upset cat with no way to make it happy. I turned the game off and never went back.

sim animals africa on the ds was my childhood. i only had the ds games of these, the first sim animals was too hard for me as a kid and i never got past the second stage, but in africa i probably 100% everything even at that age i loved that game. spoilers at one point you get a colorful dinosaur with superpowers and he’s awesome

I remember being so excited upon finding SimAnimals in the back of a GameStop as a nine year old, rushing home to play it, and being frustrated to the point of tears. I literally COULD NOT figure out for the life of me how to build a dam and so I just never played it again because it caused me physical pain.

simanimals on DS was so different to this (better, from what i remember)!! I have such good memories of trying to stay up on new year’s eve when i was 8 and playing simanimals with EYES WIDE OPEN trying my best, i must’ve been playing for about 4 hours straight. i’m not sure if i want to revisit it and realise it’s not as good as i remember but it’s definitely dear to my heart

I would love a SimAnimals rerelease for switch but SimAnimals Africa is a lot less grindy and you kinda get to play as the animals if i'm remembering correctly so I think you'd enjoy it more!

Simanimals and Simanimals Africa for Wii and DS were some of my favorite Sims games, and games in general as a kid! I didn't have access to a PC but even if I had the means to play the PC Sims games I think I still would've find myself dumping hours and hours of playtime on these games! They were so unique and my animal sim obsessed child brain was absolutely hooked on them

Omg finally someone talks about SimAnimals! I remember getting a copy from the library and playing this game for hoursss. I loved the deers and foxes, and got so upset whenever they got attacked and eaten by bears and other predators. So I usually took each species into a separate area feeding them with berries and acorns (where they would usually starve bc bears also needed to hunt to survive) but at least my bambis were okay. It was random but I was so damn invested

In my first game, to which I returned regularly, the deer became extinct, they were my favorites, but they all died or were eaten and none ever came to the forest again. It was traumatizing, hahahaha, since then in my subsequent games I became an expert in maintaining stable animal populations.

SimAnimals DS and SimAnimals Africa on the wii were some of my favorite games as a kid and definitely aren't as frustrating as this one was, highly recommend checking those out. The graphics are also much better in both cases.
