I really appreciate you saying that! I live in USA, and although I'm Armenian from Armenia and have never been to Iran, but whenever I meet Iranian people I treat them as my old friends. I have this interesting story that happened about a year ago. I worked near a big railroad station in one of the US major cities. I went out for a walk during my lunch, and saw two women with their luggage, very confused as if they didn't know where they are going. They looked Armenian, so I approached them to see if I can help, but they were from Iran and didn't speak any English, neither I speak Farsi. So I said to them "No Farsi" and tried to figure out what are they trying to do. They gave me their phone, so I can speak with their brother who was supposed to meet them at the station. So I found out that their brother was on the other side of the station and they were trying to get to him, but didn't know which way to go. So I just walked them where their brother would pick them up. While we were walking, they still didn't know who I was and we couldn't really talk to each other as they didn't speak English. I tried to simplify my speech as much as I could, and asked them "You from Iran?" They said "Yes, yes Iran". I said "I'm from Armenia" but it seemed like they didn't understand me. I repeated "Armenia, Armenia". They were still confused. Then I said "Armenistan", and they like exploded "Oh Armenistan, Armenistan!!! I know!!!" So apparently one of them even visited Armenia couple years back.I walked them all the way to their brother, and then we said goodbye to each other. I'm glad our people are getting along so well. We are of different religion and different languages and even different ethnicity, but we are old (and I mean really OLD) good neighbors and should always stay like that! Peace to you, brothers!

Zork jan -- they weren't our "brothers" when they murdered our patron Saint Sarkis and legendary hero Vartan Mamigonian. !!! But yes -- Religions aside, Persians and Armenians are one ethnicity. Pre-Christian Armenia, way back when we practiced Mithra-ism, and before Iran's conversion to Islam .. there was harmony among us, worshiping together in our temples. That period in history was better. Once again this proves us that religion is a poison to humanity. And trust me I say this with much heartache. I am not an atheist. Armenians we have endured pain and suffering since our adoption of Christianity -- it brought us nothing but misfortune. Those jewish apostles should never have come and bothered us!!!
@ArsenAl-zorK7 жыл бұрын
Vartan Mamigonian was a stupid piece of trash who led Armenian people to needless slaughter, for what? Jewish mythology? "patrons" Either way, what you say is irrelevant. It's like ignoring the fact that Norwegians and Swedes are brother nations even though they once were at war. It's history, conflict happens, but cultural ties are still there regardless of you and people like you ignoring it. And Armenia and Iran have real cultural ties, despite how the Sassanid dynasty once ruled. I recommend you do some research about the traitor Mamigonians instead of speaking out of your ass like a proper brainwashed christian boy. Also why are you using a rhetoric where you start taking my age into account? You should grow up. Persian and Armenian bound existed long before islam and christianity, and it will be there long after. Bullshit religions have nothing to do with this. Good day to you.

Zork1915 You're absolutely right! Nobody can break the bond between us. As Iranian people, regardless of religion or ethnicity we are, we support and love Armenians! Many Iranians joined our Armenian compatriots in Tehran to protest at the Embassy of Turkey to demand the recognition of the Armenian genocide. We'll always support the Armenian nation in whichever way we can, no matter who tries to divide us. Has nothing to do with Indo-European. Armenian is in the same group of Indo-European languages as Indo-Iranian (so its more similar than European languages, yes), but most of these similar words come from borrowings of Pahlavi/Middle Persian into Armenian, during Parthian and some Sassanian times. There are many cognates due to Indo-European heritage, but they don't sound similar at all due to the very different phonology of Armenian to Old Iranic.

Iranians have always supported Armenia! Even in the war with the Azerbaijanis who share the same Shi'a religion as the majority of Iranians, Iranians still did not side with Azerbaijan. They supported us and stayed with us so much that Israel became good friends with Azerbaijan and that's where the Azerbaijanis get their weapons to kill our brothers and sisters. Half of Azerbaijani is also in present day Iran. Weapons are sold left and right, as was seen in the Iran Iraq war. Armenians and Azeris were good friends and neighbors, before colonization by Russia and British, and the dividing of people into countries, called nationalism. Go beyond the lies. As a native turkish speaker, i can understand a lot of these words.The words are very similar to our language. There is a lot of words in turkish that comes from persian and armenian.
@qutalmsalp77986 жыл бұрын
This words are Persian "not" Armenian. Only "nor" (new) is pure Armenian, and "sugar" is Sanskrit origin (actually means "pebble"). "cinnamon" > "dârchin" is Persian and means "China Tree" "badthinker". Pure Turkish is "yağı" and "yağı" also loan to Persian from Turkish, they use "yâgî".
@argunberkedogan1916 жыл бұрын
Qutalmış Alp are you a native turkish speaker? If you were, as you know, we are using tarçın in turkish, not karakabuk, we are using the word peynir for general meaning, how can you say beyaz peynir in pure turkish? Turp and şalgam are from the same family but they are not the same. If you say i want to drink some turp juice no one understands you, you have to say şalgam to be understood. In modern turkish everyone uses düşman (dushman) not yağı. If you ask someone in the street what means yağı, lot of people will say that yağı is the accusative case of the word yağ ( oil). We know these words are not turkish, some of them not armenian or persian, they are from diffrent old indo-european languages but we are using them know, we are communicate with these words. So i do not care what the words origin is, i have just wanted to say that we have been living together for years so our culture is similar like the meanings of words. Please do not do nationalism over the languages. If you would like to find pure turkish words, you can start with the simplest ones like kalem ( pencil), or autobus.
@qutalmsalp77986 жыл бұрын
Yes, I am native Turkish speaker and I am Turkologist, I only gave some knowledges, I don't do nationalism. Of course we use all this words in Istanbul Turkish, Istanbul dialect is very mixed, but in folk dialects there are pure Turkish words, I wrote them.
@qutalmsalp77986 жыл бұрын
By the way, "kalem" is Greek origin and actually means "reed" :) and "autobus" is wrong derivated word. Linguistically you can't mix Greek and Latin words together and you can't derivate words like that. Autobus derivated in 1905 in America. First version was "automobile omnibus" and they get shorted > "autobus" is it comletely wrong. Also "automobil" is wrong derivated word too, "automobil" (Greek-Latin mix) and it means "go itself", but "cars" don't go itself, they go by human :) there is logical error here. "Automobil Omnibus" < "omnibus" means in Old Latin "for everyone". They separated this word "omni-bus" it is totally ridiculus, and they say > "bus" only :) it is completely ridiculus word... In Old Turkish scripts like "Dede Korkut" you can see "yazgıç" means "kalem" and today we can say "Toplutaşıt" for "autobus", not wrong derivated and pure Turkish.
@argunberkedogan1916 жыл бұрын
Qutalmış Alp you can not use toplutaşıt for the bus i think :), we can use it for so many vehicles like train etc., and the word derivation with -gaç is very funny you know like the most common example oturgaç:)).

Armenian "lois" 'day' is from the same root as Latin "lux" and Germanic "light", they share the same root as Persian "ruz" (typical r>l sound change). The correct Persian word for 'new' is "nō". "Jadid" is Arabic, so is nur 'light'.

Thanks for the video. If there is any language in the world that has little similarities with the Armenian language , then it's Farsi . I know many words which are basically the same as both in Armenian and Iranian. As for the friendship between our 2 nations , I really want our government to deepen the ties even more with Iran, I consider Iran the only good friend and neighbour for us.

As Persia and Armenia are many centuries neighbors, it is normal to have similar words. I say Persia, not Iran, because we, Armenians, use Persia (Parskastan -> Պարսկաստան) more often than Iran. For example we have some Persian names in Armenian. As an example I can bring these names: Sedrak, Vahram (as I know in Persian it is Bahram), Kamsar, Suren (but I think it is more Armenian name, than Persian), Ardashir, Atrnerseh, Aramazd, Artavazd, Bakour (in Western Armenian Paguor) and so on and so forth. We have 10 thousand Persian population in Armenia and Blue Mosque (it is its name) in the center of Yerevan. We also have 3 mosques in Artsakh (or Nagorno Karabakh region) and one of them is in Shushi, the cultural capital of Artshak. And my dream is to visit Persia, especially cities of Kermanshah, Hormuz, Qazvin, Shiraz, Isfahan, Nishapur and etc. Love from Armenia.
Watching this as a Turkish man and loving this! We're using the same words for almost everything! I've been to Iran once and I'd love to visit Armenia. Why fight when we're all similar? When we're all the same? I hope one day i can visit Armenia.

Actually the similarities are common in Indo-Europian languages. This was a good job and it's even possible to continue for hours as there are more similarities between Persian and Armenian language. As Steven said there are some differences between Eastern and Western Armenian pronunciation, which is why he mixed up some words even though they are different in writing.

Persian, Greek, Egyptian and Armenian cultures, the most ancient civilizations that shaped Mesopotamia and The Mediterranean cultures. A great bond and ties between especially Iranians and Armenians remain these days. After learning about the common history of those nations one can clearly see a lot of similarities. These days the main distinguisher between Armenians And Iranians is the religion, yet even it has never been a barrier to continue good relations. Big respect to Iranian neighbours.

Some of you, probably, have heard about Armenians and are familiar with their traditions and hospitality or, at least know someone who has an Armenian friend. We won’t exaggerate if we say that Armenia is one of the oldest nations in the world. It has rich cultural and historical background about what Armenians are very proud of. But after all you may wonder: What is Armenian? Where are Armenians from? Well, here is a brief summary of the phenomenon of Armenia and its history. What is Armenian? A Nation of Century-Long and Rich History Have you ever heard of the legendary Biblical Mount Ararat, upon which Noah’s Ark “landed” after the flood? Well, Armenians have one more thing to boast of as in the centre of Armenian Uplands stands Mount Ararat. The territory of Armenian Highlands has been inhabited since prehistoric times, more concretely since the Stone Age (Paleolithic era). Armenians are a mixture of ancient tribes. As Hittie and Assyrian sources indicate the first tribal unions that inhabited in the Armenian Plateau were Hayasa-Azzi, Isuva, Alishe, Uruatri, Dayaeni, Diauekhi. Some of these tribes influenced on the physical appearance, tradition, culture of Armenian people. The prolonged historical process of formation and development of Armenian nation mostly dates back to the II-I millenniums BC According to some researchers Hayasa tribal union had a leading role for the origin of the denomination process of Armenian nation. Some historians highlight that by the 9th century B.C the ancient unified state of Armenia was Urartu (now accepted name: Kingdom of Van). It was the strongest kingdom in the North East. This is where are Armenians from.To put it differently, the Armenian nation is named after Haik, while the country is names after the Armenian nation. Haik is also a very popular Armenian name for boys. The common name of Hayastan for the foreigners is Armenia. The etymology of the word is explained in several ways. Firstly, the word is considered to be derived from Indo-European Armenoids. Secondly, the word is a combination of two Sanskrit words: “ara” meaning brave and courageous, and “mana” meaning people. That is to say, Armenia means “brave people”. And, finally the word Armenia derives from Armenak Haykazian’s name, the short name Armen, who was Haik’s son. What is Armenian? The Legend of Hayk Nahapet and Titanid Bel Now, let’s return to the question: Where are Armenians from? Armenian mythology has preserved some beautiful and inspiring legends concerning the origin of Armenians. The most important of these for the Armenian nation tells about Patriarch Hayk and his fight against King Bel. This story has preserved due to the 5th century historian, Movses Khorenatsi who made several accounts about this legend and told about it in his “History of Armenia”. As we already know, Hayk was the great and legendary founder of the Armenian nation. He is also known as Hayk Nahapet, which means forefather or patriarch in Armenian translation. Are you looking forward to hear this story? Here we go! In Movses Khorenatsi’s account, for some time Hayk was living in Babylon with his nation. When Assyrian king Bel titled himself as “king over all” many tribes escaped from his violence and emigrated. As for Hayk, he settled in a mountainous country near Mount Ararat.The number of Armenians in the world is about 10 million people but only one third of them live in Armenia. There are large Armenian Diasporas in Russia, USA, France, Georgia, Ukraine, Iran, Canada, etc. The official language of Armenia is Hayeren (Armenian) that belongs to an independent branch of the Indo-European languages. It won’t be a surprise for you if we say that it is one of the oldest languages in the world, will it? Armenian alphabet dates back to 405AD when it was first introduced by early medieval Armenian linguist, theologian, and statesman Mesrop Mashtots. The best depiction of Armenian language gave English poet George Gordon Byron: “Armenian is the language to speak with God”. The overwhelming majority that is about 95% of Armenian population follow Christianity. But there are also the so-called religious minorities in Armenia who are believers of Russian Orthodox Church, Moslems, Hebrews, Non-Trinitarian Christianity and others.

Tehlirian777 I have no idea what your point is..!! If you take time and read carefully before assuming, I NEVER said Iran 'owned' armenia just "a part of".. but again that's what Iran is, a mix of MANY MANY unique cultures and people and languages which makes Iran a very unique place on earth like a melting pot, we have dark black 'Iranians' in the south and white and blue eyes in the north, Armenian Jew Muslim Zoroastrian etc etc and Turk Kurd baluch azeri Arab even some Europeans etc etc ALL make up what we call IRAN.. OF COURSE Armenians are their own unique people!! They're Armenian and as you notice we call them Armenians like azeris like Kurds Afghans etc etc and they still speak their own language which has had the most influence from Persian language they still celebrate their own everything etc etc... I think you are into nationalism or something which with all due respect I personally believe it's one of the stupidest ideas in this world that has caused nothing but totall ignorance misery and war and death, hate and division!! NOBODY OWNS anything in this world we all have same destination and all nationalism is nothing but fight over soil and dirt!!!! Instead of focusing on the so many differences which only exist in your mind and not really factual, lets focus on our similarities. Obviously we all have some differences even as armenians you have differences as Iranians we have so many different people as I said BUT somehow we have managed to live side by side for thousands of years .. ALL of what we call middle East was part of great Persian empire but the beloved king NEVER tried to change anyone and respected all religions and people he's the first ever to talk about such things as human rights when conquered Babylon he prayed to their God and freed Jews etc etc unlike many conquerors who tried to force their whole being on others. Right now just by chance I have Armenian neighbors that have never been to Iran but when we get together we are both profoundly surprised as to how much we have in common and how similar we are hardly can we find ANY differences but there are ALWAYS people who want to focus on a few minor differences who unfortunately cause many problems bc of their ignorance !! And yes Greeks came, Persians went there and Romans and Mongols and Arabs and many others but again somehow we all learned to mix and live together and THAT is what makes Iran and Iranians one of the most unique and great people of the world not bc of being 'Iranians' but a mix of MANY beautiful peoplme and cultures and languages 😊😊😊 and YES it's a FACT armenia was part of iran so was parts of China all the way to mediteranian called the great Persian empire was just PART of Persia but still unique and to this day still Armenian... and yes vise versa Arabs conquered Greeks Mongols etc but Iran stayed iranian not Arab not Greek just iranian Maybe best you watch the video and see what the point of it is .. similarities not differences
@kakooly7 жыл бұрын
Tehlirian777 again I'm really not sure what the exact point it.. as I said I and all Iranians recognize armenians as armenians and yes armenia at some point was part of iran so was Afghanistan and Syria and Azerbaijan and many other places but they are all their own people just like armenia. And they all stayed as they were Armenian Turks Kurds etc again what makes a place we call IRAN today .. but let me say this unless you live in some remote part of the world that has never ever been touched by another civilization then nobody is so unique truth is as we might speak differently and have different beliefs but bottom like there are MANY similarities we ALL took from one another I believe THAT is the beauty of this world NOTHING belongs just to me or you it's universal otherwise we are acting like children as in this is mine and that is yours!! We shouldn't allow different language or religion divide us bc even before way before the there major religions was Zoroastrian and if you study it very carefully all three major religions of today were very much influenced by it .. my point is if we all started to be more underst and think we are all humans part of one planet started at one place and we migrated and multiplied and ONLY THING Separating us is some imaginary border lines and language and more importantly religious and political people using the old philosophy of divide and conquer .. Turkey for example maybe enemy of us or you but it's not Turkish people it's ideology and politics and many things... And we must all be careful about what those people wanna achieve. Yes again armenians are armenians and still are so are Persians and azeris and Arabs etc but we all live in this place called Iran and some have their one country like you .. When I sit with Armenian Turk kurd it's as if we are same! Yes we speak our own languages but nothing seems different!! Other than one might pray on Sunday other on Friday and one doesn't even believe in religion and believes in one god for all .. and believes religion was another way to divide people.... Its a short life it's one planet we are all humans of connections and similarities beyond any minor differences but those specific are masters at pointing the very very minor things!!
@kakooly7 жыл бұрын
Tehlirian777 I understand what ur saying I have had same feelings towards Arabs and what they did to my country 1400 yrs ago and still today but I don't blame the people in general I don't believe humans have evolved much and/or we are more intelligent than other species the concept of humanity is destroyed and replaced with selfishness jealousies misinformation ignorance hateful just ugly behavior that u rarely even witness in animals .. I mean the things we humans do to each other is just beyond any imagination!! Respectfully I don't agree that a majority is like the governing body actually I believe the opposite bc most these ppl as u ssid will say one thing to get votes and do another thing, well, just like most politicians in the world . I do believe as iranians we have many things we can improve on but I promise you for example majority of Iranians don't like anything about current 'Arab' regime BUT they hold the power and money and guns !! In Turkey I don't believe majority hate or want Kurds dead or removed ! Same time i believe Turkish president is one of the most dangerous people in this world and god knows what will be the outcome of his actions as these things are very unpredictable and can get out of hand very quickly!! I certainly don't wish for this .. Overall as I said or the famous saying "I see MANY humans but not much humanity" it's time to remake ourselves I believe and change this thought of my land my soil my country my this n that as we don't own anything in this world not even our bodies! Otherwise my personal opinion is bc of humans greed ignorance the hunger for power and control selfishness insecuririties and other reasons, will eventually destroy it's envirmont and therefore the human race unless we as humans decide to renew our ways and thoughts n beliefs it might sound cliche but we really do need more understanding and respect and acceptance therefore more love in this world otherwise the minority will will over majority in divide n conquer !! I strongly believe majority of people in this world want to live side by side in peace and Yes the reality is different bc minority holds power all over .. Maybe it's a dream which will never come true that we all just live and let live .....!!

Sorena Parak The words that have a common ancestor in Proto-Indo-European are many, but don't sound similar at all. A good example is Persian Nāxon/ناخن (nail), and Armenian եղունգն (ełungn). Both derive and mean the same thing, but have totally different sound, because Armenian is not part of the same branch of Indo-European as Persian is. All these very close words were borrowed long ago, in pre-islamic times, but still much after the shared Indo-European period.

Thank you, but we did in the past and it was removed. I made a post about the reason why I won't be doing it again any time soon. I explained it here: kzbin.info/door/upKOOnfBOhdwhBLYjYH4RQcommunity?lb=Ugz4LQL8ENvoX9uRBZl4AaABCQ

Some of the "Armenian" words are foreign alternatives preferred by the majority to the native Armenian Lexicon. The original word for butter is "kogi" and "vosox" means enemy. Just something to think about.

Wow! I never have listened word ,,kogi,,.

he's western Armenian.....most Armenians that live in Iran are Eastern Armenian...the reason why I like to mention the difference is the dialect! Armenians in Iran speak the Armenian that is spoken in current day Armenia...whereas western Armenians which are mostly from Turkey, Lebanon, Syria and etc speak their own dialect which was spoken in western part of Turkey which at some point was Armenia!

This is a good video. Educational. Note: some claim Cinnamon = Gassia կասիա too...Armenian speakers across 400,000 square miles or 1 million square kilometers have many dialects, most destroyed in the Genocide. Another one: MIKHANDAM = gu khntam (I do LAUGH). ZAMANEH=jhamanag...there are books on the similarities...I purchased one. The VAN dialect is now partly in 'Gyumri' and is the purest Armenian one, for most words, some claim.

Very interesting! Thanks for sharing. In Iran, there are many Armenian schools and churches. We lived next to one in Tehran and I always found we had a very close connection. The contribution that Armenians have made to the Iranian nation over the past several centuries has been remarkable. We're definitely going to do more Armenian videos in the future:)

I am from Pakistan and we in urdu also use "Darcheeni" for cinnamon, "Mard" for man, "Shalgham or Shaljam" for Turnip, "Hazar" for thousand, "Paneer" for cheese, "Shakar" for sugar, "Dushman" for enemy, "Taza" for fresh. and even sometimes "Nau" for new, Urdu has borrowed heavily from Persian during the mughal rule in the past.

so amazing many similarities in armenian and persian languages exist just because for thousand years we iranians (kurds, mazanis, gilaks, kurds, azeris, baluchs, lors, persians) lived with armenian people since median empire till now

As I was going thru this video, not only are these words similar between Farsi and Armenian, but also with Sanskrit. It's just amazing to learn that most of the humanity still speaks the evolutionary variants of the same root words 😊

Many Armenian words are actually Parthian in origin and Parthians( sometimes called Arshakians , in Iran Ashkanian) are people of north Iranian origin who ruled an ancient empire mainly in the region of Iran, evin saint Gregor of the Armenian church was called Gregor Partev (the Parthian) because he was Parthian in origin.Parthian and Persian languages are related to eachother.
@xxxiamthebestxxx7 жыл бұрын
Jews claim Parthians were at least partly jewish. Gregor of the so-called apostolic church also married a jewess. Unfortunately, yes Gregor (I call him 'the illuminati' lol) destroyed Armenian civilization (much like what Arabs did to Persia centuries later), BUT that has nothing to do with Armenian language. Today, scientifically is proven that for instance, Sumerian is Armenian. That says a lot about ancient Armenian language.
@Rus-bw2oq7 жыл бұрын
xxxiamthebestxxx: You say Gergor destroyed Armenian civilisation and I would say christianity destroyed Armenian ancient civilisation but not Armenian language .In regard to Sumerian and Armenian , there is no scientific proof that they are related to each other, its only claimed by pseudo-science.I think Sumenrian language which was spoken once in the region of south Iraq is related directly to Tamil langauage of south India and there are many proofs in the language itself that support this so we could say that Sumerian is an archaic Tamil and this is something which unfortunately still denied by the mainstream science.

indian summer If you read "Language as a fingerprint" by Vahan Setyan you 'll see many examples of common words in Sanskrit and Armenian, all of which are meaningful in Armenian language. However, I'm not familiar with Tamil language. Regarding Sumerian language: pretty recently Sumerologist and scientist Armen Davtyan together with a German team (unfortunately not sure about their names) have research this thoroughly; the result is for now the first volume of Armenian-Sumerian dictionary which includes 2000 word roots that are common btw Sumerian & Armenian. I think it's pretty impressive for a gap of at least 4000 years btw 2 languages. Moreover, amazingly ALL Sumerian 'linguistic rebuses' are translatable/meaningful in Armenian & Armenian only and NO other language so far. This is a 'signature'. It means it can't be the result of "an error". That's why I call it 'scientific proof'. You may say those rebuses have meaning also in Tamil (those terms may be common in Tamil & Armenian). But you need to consider 2 things: 1) You need to prove it first. 2) Still that doesn't diminish the close relation or similarities btw Armenian and Sumerian.
