As an Israeli with partial Iranian background, this video was so heartwarming and beautiful for me to watch! My grandma spoke fluent Persian and I have worked a lot to learn it in the past year. I can pick up a lot and also make basic conversation. I have so much love for the Iranian nation! Unfortunate that I can't see the country but I hope to visit the beautiful land of Iran one day! I am so proud of my Iranian roots! Greetings from Israel! 💖💖

Hebrew and Old-Persian are two of the oldest languages of that region, so it makes sense that they share some grammar and vocabulary; but I think many of the words mentioned in the video are similar mainly due to the effects of foreign languages (mainly Arabic and French) on both Persian and Hebrew.

You're right but the words which come from French, originally are from Greek. French is like a bridge to come to Turkish from Greek. @@vickru2133 Ha-hah! Unfortunately, not quite. But lots of Iranians (especially more secular-leaning ones) never had anything against Israel or Jews, the two countries used to have good relations before the Islamic Revolution in 1979 (although the Shah, who Israel supported, wasn't quite the nicest man either, but most Iranians don't hold it against Israel). But the Iranian ayatollah/mullah-dominated government is very anti-Israel and Israel is very much against the Iranian government. But more and more average Iranian citizens are fed up with their government too, but it's more of the more educated, less religious people from the big cities. So one way for an Iranian citizen to express dissatisfaction with the Iranian regime is to say they support Israel. The funny thing now is that a lot of Arab governments like Saudia Arabia, UAE are allied with Israel (under the table) against the gov't of Iran, but most of the ordinary citizens in those countries hate Israel, with Iran it's almost the opposite --the Israeli and Iranian governments are enemies, but the ordinary citizens in both countries usually have positive feelings for each other.

@@zafarsharif993 Sure there are pro-Israel Arabs. many of them live in Israel and serve in the IDF. I've met and known many. And yeah, of course, some Arabs outside Israel also are pro-Israel. But the average man/woman on the street in most Arab countries have negative views of Israel (to put it lightly), although in KSA and some Gulf countries relations are good (unofficially) between the governments of those countries and Israel, I don't think the average citizen in Riyadh has a positive view. I'd be very happy to be wrong.

In southern Fars region in Iran, we had many Persian Jews, they mostly left for Shiraz and Israel. In Israel most of those that migrated to Israel from our region (Larestan) still use the surname Lari. Southern Persian Jews nver spoke Hebrew, Like the Zoroastrians and Muslims of our region they also speak a dialect which is a mixture of Old and Middle Persian with some Sumerian words. The accent of our language which Shirazi Jews (Kalimis) speak is better known as Judo-Persian. BTW, my G-grand mother was a proud southern Persian Jew.

What the hell do you people even mean by "pure", and why should it be considered a good thing? If anything, linguistic "purity" demonstrates how insular cultures never adopt outside ideas and therefore never evolve. I'm sure some of the uncontacted tribes in South America speak "pure" languages...but what do they have to show for it? Last I checked, most of those people are still living a pre-Stone Age lifestyle. But go on, tell me more about how insularity and "purity" is a good thing.

Thank you. Yes, you're right, most of the words mentioned here are Arabic in origin, and although we have actual Persian words that can be used for them, the Arabic ones are in common with Hebrew, and they are the ones more commonly used in regular conversations in the 21st century by Persian speakers. The original Persian words are used in poetry and literature. If we had only stuck with original Persian words for this video, there would rarely be anything in common with Hebrew. But as you mentioned, it is our goal to bring people and cultures closer together, and technically using these words isn't wrong, because they are used by Persian speakers :)

@THe Boy Well, you can speak Farsi with the many Iranian Jews (and even older Bukharian Jews from Uzbekistan) who live in Israel, but not with the average Israeli. Many of the words on the list like "zman/zaman," "malka/Malika" are similar, but that's because Persian took them from Arabic. Arabic and Hebrew *ARE* related languages, but Persian and Hebrew are not (and despite the fact that Farsi uses the same alphabet as Arabic and most Persians are Muslim, the roots of Farsi and Arabic are different as I am sure you know), but Persian has many Arabic loan words. The other examples of the same words like "otobus" or "ananas" are just because these are international words. "Otobus" for a bus derives from Greek, and in German, SPanish, French, they say "autobus" and "ananas" for the pineapple fruit is used in many languages besides Hebrew and Persian --for example they also say "ananas" in French and Russian. The word originates from an American Indian language spoken in South America called "Tupi", and Europeans first were introduced to the fruit there and then the word spread to many other languages.. So sorry, when you come to Israel, you can speak in English, learn Hebrew or look for the Farsi-speaking Israeli-Jewish community! Looking forward to seeing you here!
