I remember seeing this episode on the same video tape too back in 1997 when I got 'Thomas & Stepney & Other Stories' for my 9th birthday. I enjoyed the music during Duncan's trip and the flashback in Skarloey's dream was a lovely addition. The visuals are brilliant and the scenery is beautiful. It would have been wonderful to see Nancy in CGI and see her interact with the little engines 😀.

"Keep your old station. I'm staying here." This line of dialogue I think sums Duncan's stubbornness perfectly. It just shows how petty he is.

Fans don't always talk about this episode that much till now, but I think this is another great case in study into more of Duncan's character after getting over diesels, but now learning to accept the importance of passengers too.

I am in complete agreement about the visuals here as usual. Plus I agree that Duncan stopping on the viaduct with Skarloey's passengers definitely makes it more impactful. Also I would've loved to see Nancy in CGI. That would honestly be amazing.

Now this was also my introduction to Duncan. I can sympaphise with Duncan in this episode as I sometimes complain about certain things in life and I love it when Duncan stops on the viaduct

Thank goodness Rheneas is coming home in the next episode when Skarloey tells the story of how Rheneas saved the Skarloey Railway from closure.

My introduction to Duncan for me was I think Dunkin Duncan.

The CGI series missed an opportunity to bring Nancy back.

Not a very good adaptation IMO. I don’t really like how Nancy doesn’t say that she will give Duncan a polish tomorrow, as with that line gone, it makes us actually sympathise a bit with Duncan, which we aren’t meant to really. Also I dislike how Duncan stopped to build up steam not at a station, unlike in the book, because it is said in the next episode that passengers get cross if you stop not at stations. But I respect your opinion on the episode Simon. I must admit the music and narration are good as always. Mike, Junior and Michael never disappoint.
