ETH got top 4 last season and won a cup. He has the highest winning percentage of any Manchester United manager I believe. He also overachieved at Ajax compared to previous managers. He hasn't suddenly become bad overnight. Still in the hunt for a CL place and an FA Cup this season. Like I said, I believe the England role is easier to manage as you just get to pick the best players for free. You also can pick a player and then drop him from the next squad without any financial loss. But the pressure of managing England is immense and the expectations is much higher. England lost in the final and most fans still said it was not good enough. If Man U finished 2nd in the prem, the fans would be elated and the manager would not be getting any stick, like Southgate did for losing in the final!

Sure the fans want to be winning the league etc but expectations are set by what has been seen for a decade. They've been a mess for so long I'd say another 2 years of trying to get better, correct everything above the manager, DoF, scouts, signings, cleaning the squad out so they can try to be more and more competitive before Utd then think about properly being in a title race. Basically the same place they've been really since Fergie. You'd hope to see signs of moving the right way instead of continual decline. United fans would always brag about finishing above Liverpool in any season. It doesn't mean most of them thought it would stay that way from now on.
