對台灣人來說,台灣絕對有一連串不好甚至糟糕的地方,但是台灣至少不會假裝什麼都好,人民有權利說真話甚至罵執政者而不必被迫害。 For Taiwanese, there is a lot of things that should get improve here, but at least we have the right to speak out and wont be punished just because saying the truth.
In fact, you won't be punished even if what you say is incorrect. You will be challenged and corrected, and your credibility for the future will suffer if you spoke untruthfully. You will be held accountable. The best and only legitimate answer to "bad" speech in any open and honest system is the ability to counter with "good" speech.

@@movinon1242 its truth, it is the free speech in the marketplace of ideas, everyone has the ability to talk is very important. Even though sometimes I would still feel the progress of the society takes a very long time in the democratic system, especialy in Taiwan, and be disappointed by some comments and their mind of thinking. But I still believe in democracy rather than totalitarianism or communirism.
I love Taiwan. Each time i visited, i love the food, the way of life and the most i loved “friendly people” ❤️.I don’t have any negative things to say.
In my experience it's pretty common that places tourists like to visit are often closed on a Monday and/or a Tuesday in various parts of the world, because they are usually very crowded on Saturdays/Sundays with weekend visitors so the staff there need to get a day off too, or simply to do routine maintenance work etc. that it would be difficult to do quickly with visitors milling around.

Great film Simon. I really love mainlander like you that can really stay here and understand the differences of Taiwan and its culture and spirit. Taiwan is never perfect but it’s a more liberal and comfortable place to live in, though it doesn’t look fancy or rich. I mean, people love those expensive and huge success, they could go to China. But most Taiwanese including me don’t wanna be changed and forced into that kinda harsh and difficult lifestyle in mainland while everyone is competitive and fierce and impatient. It’s a matter of choice. Again, Great film and great English Simon.

Totally agree, what I like about in a multiparty democratic system, we don't need to worry about not getting the truth or not needing to find out the negatives ourselves. You get the opposition party doing the job for you. But of course we also need to learn to filter out subjective information or get information from multiple sources in order to find the actual truth. Opposition party or the party currently in power can both distort truths to their advantage. What I do like about Taiwanese politics is that the politicians are hilarious and down to earth. Parties may hate each other but to me, it's like watching a comedy. And both are serious and childish at the same time. Don't know how to describe it, but you don't see nor feel this in other countries. I feel more connected to the Taiwanese politicians because they feel like real human beings who actually care about ordinary citizens. And every political rally is like a social event. There are food, drinks, and music. Very colorful. You don't see that in the USA.

I think democracy is a necessity of all people and I totally agree with every word you said in the video. Great job, Simon. I am from mainland and living in the U.K.
As a Canadian I'm glad we have the United States of America as a neighbour. We have had peace for over 200 years. We have our disputes and problems but at least our relations are peaceful. We try to work together and solve our issues. I feel bad for the people of Taiwan having neighbours that are not so friendly towards them and are trying to bully people into submission. I wish our country would recognize Taiwan as the nation they are. But our government would rather appease China than stand up for democracy and human rights. I'm not sure why China is taking a nationalist aggressive stance either. It seems like ever since Xi Jinping came into power this seems more prevalent. China's government is looking like Japan of the 1930's. I thought peace with China could be achieved, but regrettably it is looking like we might be at war soon.

The negative side of Taiwan is that the people can vote and criticize their government, can speak freely and think freely without being visited by the police.

@God is great- America is great I think you have a misunderstanding. The network made tons of false claim about current government, almost seems as if the network is paid by CCP. If a news station in USA claims how great China is and how bad the US is, do you think they will be shutdown as well? As I remember, US stopped giving VISA to Chinese news reporters.
@mlai25463 жыл бұрын
@God is great- America is great you should read the history of Taiwan. At no point were they ever ruled by China. The ISO was ammended to make China happy. Everybody knows that. This was ammended in 1971. You can't call Taiwan part of China when they were never ruled by them. Just because only 15 countries recognize it doesn't mean they aren't a country. Most countries switched recognition because they are pressured by China.

THE POSITIVE SIDE OF CHINA. You can't vote your govt leaders. You can't criticize the govt about its.wrong doings. You can't speak freely. You can't think freely. China has No morales and is constantly hungry for MONEY and LAND. So much so, that the Chinese are willing to oppress Xinjiang, Mongolia, Tibet and Hong Kong and threaten Taiwan's autonomy to do so. But we have morales and we're taught right from wrong since childhood. Chinese may be willing to sell their family members for doing business, but we're are not like this. The first step is to pressure China economically. This is achieved by calling for mass boycott of their cheap and inferior goods. We already had Huawei products banned and now we should pressure western manufacturers to leave China. China is not a superpower! It is economically at the mercy of Western Nations. We can go after Apple, Walmart, Samsung, Nike, and even block the imports of their agricultural goods (ex.garlic, etc). We can even boycott AliBaba.com and TikTok. The second step is to pressure our governments to embargo China to prevent imports as well as exports. Chinese people may be rude, rigid, self-centred, non assimilating and filthy but even they have needs at the end of the day. When they are deprived of luxury goods and western entertainment and medicine, even they will turn on their government. China is literally picking fights with everyone around. India on the western front, Japan on the eastern front, Australia on the southern front, Vietnam, Philippines, Laos, Taiwan, Malaysia, Brunei in the South China sea, etc. Internal squabbles with Hong Kong, Tibet, Mongolia and Xinjiang. Constantly threatening Taiwan directly and South Korea indirectly using North Korea as proxy. Threatening New Zealand and United States. I mean, it's mind numbing to think that they are righteous and all others aren't. Introspection, attitude change and course correction are the need of the hour for China. Needless to remind that everyone has a rightful place to live with dignity on planet Earth and peaceful co-existence with mutual respect to each other. .

I just wanted to say thank your for you videos and information as someone who hopes to live in Taiwan soon!
There is a really nice park and sculpture area just to one side of the National Palace Museum, (it is possible to walk down from just to the right as you exit the museum but it is a narrow path (my wife had her doubts when I led her down that path in 2010), but there is also an entrance from the street. Lots of sculpture and lotus flowers various places to sit. One of my favorite areas around Taipei. From that part of town you are also close to Shr Lin, (lots of food and shopping) and not too far from the square tube cement modern museum too (even though it has some structural issues it is still open) *but as you said, it's Monday,,, Museums are closed. Very nice Pineapple cake, on one of our previous trips we stayed out near the Hong Shu Lin stop on the Red Line (almost final stop) the one stop closer to Taipei is also famous for Pineapple Cakes, but I am not sure if we bought a different brand or not. Very good cakes regardless, (and a nice gift too)
We should definitely talk about the negatives so that we can fix the problems! People talk about China's negatives because they care and hope it can be fixed!
