@@dominikweber4305 My Ibanez hasn't seen it in 30 years and still plays fine, so I guess I dunno. I suppose it's mainly cosmetics for people that just happen to fancy the more saturated look of the fretboard? "Wood becoming not oily enough" isn't really a thing in any other context in any case. It could be a useful thing if someone has really sweaty hands though, may it be due to stage-performance or just disposition. Human sweat is alien-blood-tier agressive and a regular coat might be a real benefit in this case. I think if your strings tend to snap frequently on you due to corrosion, a thin fresh coat won't really hurt.
