Alright so I got a lil story relating to the “Taking Disrespect” topic. This happened last week in chem lab (im a 1st year uni). Im doin my thing, and this girl comes over to talk to my friend/lab partner who i met in August. I was supposed to pipette 100 mls or something (doesnt matter for the story) and she noticed I was doing it a little too fast and not pipetting the full amount. She calls me out on it and I redo it, and I mess it up slightly again. The professor happens to be walking around and comes over to observe, and other people also watch cause my lab partner was giving me shit about it, and once I do it right this girl says “good boy” to me. atp like 5-6 people including the professor heard her say this and some start laughing a little, and i’m unable to say anything in response because i got anxious/nervous, didn’t have the confidence to say something smooth or witty or anything back, and kinda got super red and froze up. I ended up looking like a bitch and my lab partner kept on bringing up how I let her say that to me and shit like that, and I was pissed the rest of the day. Whats even worse is that i have chem lecture with the same friend and he thought it would be hilarious to tell these juniors who sit in front of us and already make fun of me because my friend makes fun of me to them and they started making fun of me as well as soon as he told them. So now they bring it up as well and look even more down on me then they already did and I basically look like a weak bitch to all of them, and feel weak to myself and I don’t know how/what to do or how to move forward/prevent this type of thing from happening again. I feel like I always get made fun of and people always pick up on the fact that they can make fun of me, and my self confidence/self-esteem is so low that I can never say or do anything back which only makes it worse. Its not exactly the same type of “Taking Disrespect” as the context of this vid as it wasn’t in a dating/relationship type of way, it was more of a general disrespect, I more so just wanted to get this off my chest since i’ve been thinking about it a lot since it happened

It's a damn shame, honestly, but it happens way more often than you'd think, especially to guys like you. Unfortunately, there isn't really some sort of "universal" solution to this kind of situation. Different people have different approaches. And people could share their pieces of advice, tell you what worked for them, but it might very well not work for you at all. I guess my piece would be something like, make your peace with the fact that these things happen, that there are people out there in the world who have nothing better to do than to test others ( you being the unfortunate target this time around), and understand that these are all just measly attempts at mocking you in order to fullfill their sick, perverted little sense of entertainment. Once you come to terms with these realizations, these moments of "public embarassment" won't have any more power over you, psychologically speaking, because deep down you know it's all futile and meaningless. Like annoying static noise on an old CRT TV. At most you'll express a deadpan face or a sigh, because it is tiresome when it happens, after all. But you won't feel belittled by them anymore. These people are not "better" than you, they don't hold any more power in society than you do. So there's no reason to feel like they have some sort of upper hand over you. But thinking these things is exactly what they want you to do, that's how they dominate you. If they notice their bullshit affects you, they'll keep doing it, but if you express no response to whatever they're saying, they'll get bored fast and then scatter away like rats, fading into obscurity and not bothering you anymore. If you think about it, these kinds of moments have no objective value of their own, a lot of the times it's us who are attributing values to them, and it ends up affecting us (feeling weak/humiliated, sad, embarassed, anxious, furious, etc.). These people that are making fun of you aren't occupying their minds with these moments as much as you are thinking about them, or thinking about what these people think of you when they're making fun of you, so a lot of the damage is actually happening in your head (to put it in slang terms : they're living "rent free" in your head while they couldn't care less about you, as an entitiy. you're just another random event of the day for them). Another (more extreme) approach would be to start harbouring an unaccountable level of hatred and distaste towards most people because of all the nasty little things they do, everyday. And thus, everytime they even entertain the thought of pulling your leg, you just feel the need to stare back at them, unwavering, with a mortifying frown, not even blinking, looking right through their tiny heads (kinda like that profile picture of yours. Looks Lovecraftian or demonic haha). And they'll probably feel too intimidated or uncomfortable to keep going. But see, this is what i meant earlier in my comment. These "strategies" aren't really deliberate choices that you can force your brain into believing and manifesting, like some sort of mental workout. They're mindsets, that naturally occur within you, over the course of life. The things that I said above characterize me to an extent, but not because I necessarily chose to think like this. Instead, it's because these concepts pretty much manifested themselves in my head, as an outcome to different life experiences and episodes. And these are the conclusions that I drew. But if you have to force yourself to be like this, then it means that it doesn't reflect your true self. You're trying to trick yourself into building a fake persona. That's why I'm saying that you need an approach that feels natural and authentic to the real you. And one last thing. Are you sure that guy from school is an actual "friend" and not just a simple acquaintance/ school colleague? Because an actual friend wouldn't feel the need to spread mockery at the expense of his other friend. He wouldn't have anything to gain out of it. Quite the opposite actually, he would feel hurt or bothered if something damaging would happen to that friend. Think about who you associate with, and who you invest time and energy into.
