Love it! It's the basic term of a fine cabinetmaker, mark don't measure. No tape measures, no angle finders, no math. Just a pencil and any straightedge to get a straight line between two points. I was formerly "stuck" on calculating halving the 38degree slope, cutting two miters of 19degrees and wondering why it did not work right.

Can the wall stingers be installed before the risers? Re building the 6 steps leading down to family room. The stingers were installed after the risers, originally, then the oak treads. There is enough room to just install the stringers w/o cutting to fit the risers if the risers are, again, installed 1st. Make sense?

Most stringers are installed first, unless you're dealing with something strange. Email me a picture if this didn't answer your question.

@@stairbuilding House built in '63. 'Something strange' is about what I'm having to deal with. Limited space to work in, also. I carefully measured the risers to fit very well After installing wall stringers. Worked out well. Knowing I could install stringers 1st, if needed, helped.
