The water from the soaked walnuts turns brown due to their phytochemicals. In the past, they were used to dye fabrics or used the liquid to polish wood. Don't rinse them too long or all the vitamins (at least the water-soluble ones) will be lost.

@@KultureKitchn Also, minimize animal cruelty. It is difficult to avoid these days with the technology now used to confine animals and kill them in a mass number. Veganism shouldn't be difficult with the technology of nutrients we have available such as Vitamin d, and b with omega from algae.

Thanks for the recipe. I wish i would have hand chopped the peppers and onions like you showed, i put them in the food processor and they got too mushy.. won't make the mistake next time! I put this inside lettuce wraps and it was good. I didn't soften the walnuts in a jar.. another youtube video showed boiling the walnuts instead of letting them soak.. seems faster.. not sure what the better method is..

Another way to prepare the mushrooms is to try to mince them using a knife and cutting board. This requires some patience, but easier to clean the cutting board than the food processor and mushrooms CAN be minced easily enough this way.

I applaud your caramelization of the walnuts and mushrooms because it adds another layer of flavor…..as a side note, mushrooms have a lot of umami to add and powdered mushrooms can be added to a lot of food instead of things like MSG…..I am not vegan but appreciate robust vegan foods, thank you.

I tried your recipe. The walnut mince needs to mix with a little oil to help the seasonings develop before cooking. Also some finely chopped carrots and sun-dried tomatoes (soak first)

Wowwwwww!!! I love everything you used in this video. I tried making vegan taco meat before and what I missed was soaking my walnut/pecans!!! I’ll try it again. You just gained a new follower!!!! One thing though. I’m surprised you didn’t use garlic. Is that because it may have been too strong for this recipe? Thank you for this video! I can’t wait to make this your way!!❤
@murraybrockway6540 Жыл бұрын
Walnuts are usually unsalted and the skin is rich in tanins which leach into the water. Also soaking would begin to sprout the walnut making chemically active. I am unaware of walnuts being treated with chemicals.
