Save the trees lol! Absolutely, it looks overwhelming. But (and I should check this, OOC), I bet that I have only ever touched 30% of those parameters. So much of it is ZEN-Core tone obscurity, System settings I might touch once, and Part settings I rarely use. After a nearly a year and a half I’m still finding new things, even just tonight. For now, I want to help get everyone comfortable with the 10% that matters.

Oh man, I bought an Xm a couple of months ago, and I know how powerful it is, but I was a bit upset that the I-arpeggio wasn't as fun as my old microKorg, which you can just point at something, hit the arp on, and play away. But a 2.58 mins into this video you showed me how to bring out the fun microKorg in the XM - but now I have 4 synth parts and a rhythm track - mind blown. Thank you

@@RobertSaintJohn hey man, I wouldn't message if I hand't tried everything. When I use this method, the arp is really slow. Eg: If I am in ARP COMMON EDIT - Type: "01 UP 16th" the 16th notes are what you expect them to be - fast. But if I switch Type to "off" and then go to ARP PART EDIT and switch the grid note to 16th, the arp is MUCH slower - help?

Also, if I go into step edit mode and set the grid length to 16th notes it works properly
@aridyball37383 жыл бұрын
Ok, answering my own question here. It has something to do with the Beat Detector. You have to turn that off before you turn the I-arp type off and the turn the Arp part edit switch to ON, if the beat detector is on, you will get this slowness, and it wont change no matter what you do... weird.

Excellent video. Now im curious about what I-ARP does. I also want to learn how to have multiple Jupiter-X sounds assigned to parts. I need to learn about the implementaton of expansion boards for the Jupiter-x and what purpose they serve. I also want to see how to load preprogrammed scenes if that is at all relevant. How do I switch scenes quickly with using it during band rehersals? Am I on the right track? What is the learning curve, the goals to set after acquiring this instrument for myself to utilize the unit the best way possible. Are you available for one on one coaching? Thank you.

Excellent video, thank you. I didn't really see the point of the i-arpeggio when I first got the Xm (I still don't, to be honest). Seems strange that there are easily accessible knobs and buttons for a complex feature that you are rarely going to use, but you have to go menu diving to get to the basic settings that you are going to want the majority of the time.

Roland is paying attention. They recently sent out a survey to users specifically about I-Arp, indicating that they do want to do what they can to bring it more in line with our needs and expectations. I actually do like I-Arp for what it is and what was intended, but it’s hard to “tame” and as you indicated gets in the way of the simpler tasks I think many of us would like closer at hand. Thanks for watching!

I don’t think this is possible, at least not in the 3.0 release. I don’t recall if it was possible before, and if something has changed or not. I need to look at 3.0 I-Arp more closely. However, you may still be able to accomplish this using the more complex I-Arp method demonstrated in a previous video. Let me find it and paste the link (but I have not tested it in 3.0)

Thanks for this useful vidéo ! I have a question... Is it possible to sequence the arpeggio ? I can play one part with a sequencer, but cans i play all parts, sending chords, and then choose wich part is arpeggio or not etc (not with keyboard control mode, but with a midi setting ?) ?
@RobertSaintJohn3 жыл бұрын
You are welcome! I am not certain I understand the question, can you explain a bit more? What you can do is add these arpeggios into the I-Arp Step Edit, Part by Part, and the notes are added to the pattern grid. It is not (yet?) possible to automatically add those as held chords. I know this has been suggested to Roland. Does that answer your question, Stéphane?
@stephanearnoux3 жыл бұрын
@@RobertSaintJohn My question is more about sending midi notes to all parts and not part by part (wich have different midi channels). If you could send chords to one midi channel to all parts, you could do exactly what you do in the video, but with a sequencer ;)
@RobertSaintJohn3 жыл бұрын
@@stephanearnoux that would be the Remote Keyboard function on the X/Xm. That allows an external sequencer or controller keyboard to do precisely this. I often use my Novation SL MkIII controller /sequencer like this with the Xm, because it has full-size keys and aftertouch. And its sequencer can address all the Parts of the X/Xm with a single track/channel, all through MIDI USB or DIN. And the X/Xm has settings for each Part, keyboard and arp switches, that would allow you to pick and choose which Parts respond to external Remote Keyboard. So, I believe the answer to your question is “Yes!”
@stephanearnoux3 жыл бұрын
@@RobertSaintJohn Yes, the remote keyboard fonction is great for that, but if you just want to sequence the Jupiter-xm, not if the sequencer wants to sequence other gear too with midi channels... because the remote keyboard setting is on every channel :( Or i can't find the way to set that...

I'm on day 3 of being a J-X owner, and I'm finding this difficult to follow. When I choose an initial scene and add one part (a percussive sound of course) to it, then follow these instructions to set the arp common and part settings, as soon as I turn the arp on, there is no sound. All I really want to do at this early stage, is to set a single note to trigger repeatedly, then, say, a simple chord scale up/down, that sort of thing. Is it not possible to do this with a single "patch" rather than have to use a scene to do it?

Aaahhhhhh YESSssssss, THANK YOU VERY MUCH. You did a great job, on camera and talking. This is just the beginning Robert. I’m excited to learn more about my Jupiter xm from you. You’re showing us why we paid so much for this brilliant piece of machinery. I’ve been controlling mine via midi. Is there a way to use arpeggios when it’s in Slave mode? THANKS AGAIN🫂⭐️
@RobertSaintJohn3 жыл бұрын
Most welcome! (and thanks for prompting me to come out from behind the curtain 😄). When you ask about arps in slave mode, do you mean that an external keyboard or DAW is sending the notes? Or do you mean that you’re clocking the Xm externally, but want to know if you can still directly play the arps? (you can) If the former, it’s usually just a question of making sure that the source is set to the same MIDI channel as the Part itself (SCENE PART EDIT > Rx CH). In this case, you do not want to use the system Setting of Remote Keyboard On, which is like MIDI Omni. Leave it Off, otherwise the external device will try to play all the Parts at once. That’s great for I-Arp, but not simple individual arps like this. If I’m misunderstanding the question, let me know 👍

hello robert can I do arp on all preset even in model bank ?
@RobertSaintJohn Жыл бұрын
The arp can be applied to any Part and even multiple Parts. And it can be applied to any Tone from the Models in that Part. So you could, for instance, assign an arp pattern to a Part, play and hold it, then change the Tone, and the arp will still play. I hope that answers your question
