For those who are unable to keep the boat spawning cycle going (boat breaking or staying in the dispenser): -Make sure the portal is 2 blocks wide, any wider than that and it won't work. -Use a wooden pressure plate, not stone or iron plates. -If it's still giving you issues, try placing 2 blocks next to the glass (one next to it and below the one you placed) that way you can squeeze the boat to stay in place. If you follow the video and keep these tips in mind, it will work 100%.

A most elegant chunk-loading solution! Definitely going to swap out my cumbersome ones for this one. I'd be interested to know what function the soul sand on fire performs (I'm guessing it is something to do with the duping effect - to get rid of excessive entities? E.g. hundreds of boats?)

It’s a single boat. The fire breaks the boat and then the item will come back through the portal. Meaning you only need 1 boat.

my boat just went through one time and came back as the pick upable version of itself and sat there in the portal not doing anything, im pretty sure i followed the instructions as i kept pausing each time he did anything to copy it. not sure what went wrong.

may seem obvious but how many chunks does it load? is it just the one? and if i have a farm that takes up two chunks will i have to somehow make two without the portals linking?

3x3 area with the adjacent chunks being lazy chunks (diagonals included and lazy chunks means ai is not proccesed but hostile mobs still count towards the mob cap)

this is the second chunk loader design I made and it's doing the same thing as the last one, where I can't leave a few chunks away from it without having to reset it. The server I'm on runs on Purpur, and I have no idea why this keeps happening today

My understanding is Pupur is fairly similar to Paper, both of which affect the underlying game mechanics and can make many of the farms and redstone contraptions such as chunk loaders unreliable or simply broken.

@@abfielder Had to use ilmango's simple portal design. Not as compact as I would like compared to yours, but it was the last design on purpur that still worked.

@@juiuice cool, glad you've found one that worked! I don't really know what's broken on purpar but one of the things that happens in vanilla if you make the portal bigger is the boat doesn't get into the dispenser quick enough. It's possible if you add a few extra boats into the dispenser that it'll sort itself.

if youre on a server and this isnt working lead a redstone into the back of the dispenser and create a repeating redstone chain to that peice of redstone and it should work

the boat only goes once and then after it comes back from the nether it just stays in the dispenser

As I understand it, it's to keep chunks loaded and operating without you having to be physically present. It's helpful for certain redstone farms and dupes that would otherwise require you to be in two places at once.

every time i flick the lever the boat comes back after the dispenser trys to shoot it out again

Unusual, for a larger portal in particular it can miss the tick, in that case just add a couple of extra boats into the dispenser.

@@theprohero337 No and it keeps a 3x3 area fully loaded (centered on the loader). In this area its like youre there but crop farms based on random ticks dont work (melon wheat sugarcane carrot etc) and mobs also dont spawn but if there is a zombie it will be loaded and all of its ai will be present. In the adjacent chunks to the 3x3 (diagonals included) everything will be loaded and redstone will be work but entities will be in "lazy chunks" meaning that their ai wont be proccesed and they wont do anything but still do count towards the mob cap (which is why youre supposed to build a warden mob switch in lazy chunks)

TO be honest I'm not 100% sure, as far as I can tell it'll load a 5x5 area but I'm struggling to find any up to date info on it. Basically you want it fairly close to whatever you want to keep loaded.

For some reason when I go somewhere that the chunk isn’t loaded the redstone torch stops and I don’t know why

(pls someone do correct me if i got something wrong) chunk loaders work by sending an entity through a nether portal, it loads a 5x5 chunk area for 15 seconds when going through 3x3 area (loader in the middle chunk) is fully loaded so mobs, items, redstone etc work, the outer 5x5 loads redstone but not entities so mobs n items wont load just in case... you can press f3 + G for chunk borders

25. Chunk loaders load a 5x5 area of chunks with the portal as the center.

Sounds like you have an issue with it missing ticks for some reason, drop some extra boats in the dispenser.

@@abfielder that is completly possible! Following my attempts my server's nether was swarmed with striders that kept crashing it on boot. I've found where the actual spawn chunks were tho and managed to fix my problems without this chunk loader. Ill surely give it another try on my other worlds!

Yep. Although check with your server admin if they are ok with them. On my own server I have some rules about how chunk loarders are used.

I've used this portal loader repeatedly. If you're on a server and you have spigot or paper running in particular they can change the behaviour of the game so might not work on those servers.
