Camp cooking is an undervalued skill. (much like basketry and sewing) I want camping to be a restorative and relaxing experience for people learning wilderness skills. One of those skills is learning to feed oneself after acquisition (ie: after successful hunting and foraging) as well as using store-bought ingredients. Blackie, thank you for undertaking such a broad and detailed subject.

Hi Blackie! After my wife passed away, several years ago, I had to learn to cook. That necessity grew into a genuine interest in advanced cookery. which I have been practicing for quite some time, but it has been mostly limited to the home kitchen. The idea of expanding my skill set, to the outdoors, is compelling.

BRING IT ON BLACKIE!!! I am one who loves to cook from scratch in the field. That probably comes from having been the mess Sgt. for our Civil War Artillery reenacting unit based in Ohio. I have learned that if you do not want to do the prep work out in the field due to time, then you can absolutely to the prep work at home before hand. That way you still get the fresh made from scratch meal out in the field. Looking forward to this series!!!!

When I go kayaking, I try to always stop off , at a flatplace, build me a small fire with gathered wood , and do hamburgers hot dogs etc., and all present always get involved for the experience. I AM POSITIVE THIS SERIES WILL BE OF INTEREST TO MORE PEOPLE THAN YOU CAN IMAGINE. Thank you Sir.

Lets see, you cover bushcraft, historical recreation, camp/backpack maintenance, canoe camping. Yeah, you could probably diversify a little more =D. Of course I'll tune in, I eat when I'm out in the field. And my cooking ranges from quick trail warm-me-ups to 3 or 4 course meals in camp. So, I'm listening And by the way, most cooks running a chuckwagon during cattle drives were the older, more experienced cowboys. They knew the trail well enough to judge how far they would get. Leave early enough get the chuckwagon setup and cooking in time for the others to arrive, so they all could eat and bed down. And Have the coffee ready in the morning, and do it all over again

Hey Blackie, I'm really looking forward to this series. If you do an immersion video where you use plastic baggies could you discuss if the plastic has any effect on the taste of whatever you boil in the water?
@BLACKIETHOMAS
@BLACKIETHOMAS 3 жыл бұрын
i use the name brand freezer bags and they dont add any taste that i am aware of plus freezer bags are made with the idea your going to put hot leftovers in then throw it into the freezer so the plastic is made to take that..still be careful and doint put boiling water in a bag..the bags being used for immersion heating have always done well for me

Looking forward to all this. Things on my mind have always been food collection and food preservation. Big things that need to be addressed. And not much dealt with. sort of. Another thing is food preperation. I don't mean just boiling up a pot of water. There has to be be some thought put into it. You seem to be the sorta guy that does just that. So I will watch, wait and see.

My field cooking is going to be for recreational camping, and survival conditions, for two. Most of our food will be prepackaged ready to eat/made w water. Using an Esbit or GI canteen cup stove. I'm going to watch all of these anyway, because you just never know.... I will be keenly interested in foraging and small game. Good to go with my fish
