Simple Ma. K Weathering: Hasegawa's 1/35 Fireball SG

Weathering a model is really just a simple process of adding layers of color in a logical manner. This video demonstrates some simple techniques that work well not only for Maschinen Krieger kits, but also any Bandai Gunpla from the Mobile Suit Gundam universe, Stars Wars kits, or any other science fiction or mecha model
The use of enamels, oils, and acrylics are demonstrated, as well as discussion of the theory behind their application.

Did the model come with the corrugated hoses for the legs? I have a bunch of the 1/35 scale egg case kits that look really similar except the hoses are all smooth plastic.

Yes! The kit had very nicely molded hoses, and I used them right out of the box. Paint, drybrush, add a wash - simple enough! Thanks for watching!

Hi Jon, I am watching the " Scale Modeling How To " playlist again. I have so much to learn that I find I always hear/notice something new each time I watch them. At 11:40 in the video, you speak about adding an acrylic glaze over top the oil weathering after it dried. Was it necessary to put a clear coat overtop that, or did the glaze provide that protection? Or once the oil has dried, is it stable on the surface and turpenoid or another oil thinner are the only things that would reactivate the oil?

Yes, the acrylic glaze does act as a sort of barrier coat over oils. As acrylics won't reactivate oils, no clear barrier was needed between the two. Generally, when oil is dried and cured, you can put more oils/thinners over it. However, do so carefully, as it can take a while for the curing process to take place. But also keep in mind that some blending may actually look better.
