Nice interview, I love how approachable Jim Kerr is in public here, and how he really makes an effort to respond, he doesn't resort to just one-liners or anecdotes - he still is like that, in more recent interviews I've seen in the press. And this is from a time when they were at their commercial peak! :) I remember an interview in, I think, Time or Newsweek around the same time when he was just as thoughtful and honest about the complexities of his background, his outlook on music and the band's relations to Scotland. They were truly an essential band and their early eighties albums (in particualr) still loom large for me - they are as bold and evcative as they sounded back then. Unlike many of their older fans I don't think they died as a band when Forbes quit, though they certainly changed in some ways. Jim matured as a singer during the 1990s, his voice became better, more striking and more soulful than ever before.

It’s bizarre seeing how differently people acted before the internet. They all seem so focused and patient.

I wouldn't call it bizarre because that's how people should behave. Youth today who can barely read and have no patience is whats bizarre.

Good of you to clock this one and put it out. Not sure how many know but Jim had an issue with a stammer that was so bad that Charlie would goad him into talking just for others to experience it. You can still pick it up here. This was an interesting time for Simple Minds having just finished 15 months of touring OUAT. Mick has released some amazing home vids clocking what they experienced during the tour, traveling Europe via buses and being somewhat isolated. Jim landed in a pod of young minions who have digested the shite he was falling for and now SA is a hub of genocidal warlords given carte blanche by the government some saw hiding in the shadows, waiting for the propaganda seeds to sprout. Europe is ablaze under tyrannical globalist regimes installed by the WEF who discovered that 4 year "pandemics" and a permanent dependent class should be the new normal, unfortunately embraced by too many who may have been grilling Jim this day. 3 little British girls were hacked to death and the community harboring the murderer is being coddled by the current British gov who jail anyone for posting something it doesn't like. There's too many here who can look you in the eye and say it's just that the parents of the victim of a grooming gang should be jailed for reporting their daughter was kidnapped.....that's what it's come to. Wake the phuk up.

Well yeah it was a shocker to be Booed off the Stage opening for the Pretenders (LTC's Tour at Red Rocks but My wife at the moment- Crissie- & for whom we were opening luckily was kind & said that 'To have & to hold/help' line of support re the situ' right away: 'It's a shame you didn't give them a chance; you really missed a really good band!' (But Thanks for Jimmy & Pete really! Yeah!) They'd have been there if possible & also deceased but it's not easy. It's something to do w/the afterlife & being Married to the weaker outfit of the two & then John Hughes dies or something like that makes it harder to have a Soundtrack made for a screen play by itself. Psychedelic Furs & Burton Bros were in a tight spot for Film work unfortunately. A lot of that not to be backed up w/a sequel &/or Sndtk put a few on hold/pause. MTV wasn't that healthy: sink or swim w/ the ones that were established: Bowie, WHO, Zep, Stones, Queen, etc or X, INXS, Pretenders, Tears For Fears, Talking Heads, GLJ, P. Furs & many more but it was down to a few '1 Hit Wonders' if they didn't have a good #2 Video - not just a good #2 Lp alone anymore. If Zep DID need a Video to push & pull the next one it would have been a little tougher to be in the video game as well. That was a completely different place & time.

I lost interest after New Gold Dream, but that was a great interview. Loved the Kenny Dalglish story. "Chrissy (Hynde) said he called...".

Jim Kerr saying 'Nobody forced you to come' and 'Find another hobby' reminds me of Biden in 2020 telling a Democrat voter to vote for Trump.
