Absolutely fantastic Kyle ! Not only is the build amazing, but at a young age you have a piece of land and home of your own. You obviously appreciate peace and solitude and have a realization that you can be happy with less. That is something very very few understand. Great job young man, cheers !

I live in SE Alaska and I totally agree with you about the outhouse aspect! People get too hung up on simple things, but don’t seem to mind using the bathroom right next to where they prepare food! Crazy! The simple life is best, no matter what!

The outhouse commentary😂 My Grandma told me she thought the same thing when Grandpa built the bathroom onto the house, she said she liked the tub for bathing the kids, but it took her awhile to adjust to having a toilet inside the house.

It's nice to see a young man who appreciates the great outdoors. You've carved out a nice home for yourself & your girlfriend. Good for you.

Oh this should be helpful. I've been wanting to do this. I've been wanting to buy a piece of land myself but they only place I can afford would be isolated. Bear horns I don't know if I can handle. I can deal with no plumbing and electric as long as there's a wood stove. -25 I would be dead. I used to wash my dishes in cold water for a year when I camped with my 3-year old son. The moose are beautiful. I had candles in the tent to stay warm so I can see how the tarp would work.

Kyle, such a great example of the whole exceeding the sum of the parts. Your answers about why you do something the way you do may not satisfy everyone as the best possible solution for each challenge, but that's missing the point. You've got a strong internal compass pointing toward simple, fulfilling existence - you're never more than a step or two in attention from what feeds and shelters you - and a natural aversion to unnecessary complications most of us tolerate without question. Amen to open air outhouse v indoor bathroom! Thanks for sharing the how-to and why-to for creating healthy indoor/outdoor balance.

The food, beer, clothing, toiletries, bedding, pots, pans, dishware, fuel, etc, part is harder without a nearby grocery store, but I've discovered Kwik Trip, and told my husband, we need to 'invest in Kwik Trip'. When a tiny town has one (the ones with groceries, fuel, basics), you have everything you need. Ever seen one of those lake or woods areas with one near the highway? It's all that's nearby. They should put a supper club & bar upstairs. Impressive.

Have you ever thought about hooking a little CB radio up to that car battery? You could throw a firestick antenna or a 108 inch steel whip antenna on the cabin. There just a good thing to have and fun to use. You definitely have a great set up! Very cool. Thanks for the video.

We had outdoor toilets in the UK a lot later than most places in the west. I remember having outdoor toilets in school ( and i am a spring chicken that was born in 1986). It was much nicer than indoor toilets. In fact i know some people that still have outdoor toilets in urban areas , they have a bathroom indoors ofc but that outdoor toilet is still used and is honestly better.

Our outhouse at the cabin was your typical build of an outhouse. But once you open that door to this classy, cool little out door bathroom you forgot you were not at home. Lol. It was light n bright and adorned with candles n lanterns. And never a smell because we used our wood stove and cook stove ashes to dump down the hole on a regular basis. There is something about wilderness cabin and amenities that just lets you breathe. Love your videos. Thanks for sharing.

I know it’s living off grid. As a kid my grandma had an outhouse but she still kept a chamber pot by the bed for nights, they have lids. It might be more convenient for Ciara even if she’s used to going out in all weather. To have one for her in the cabin. I know she’s a strong lady but still women need sometimes to be easier for us. Just a thought Kyle 🤔!? You should build a root cellar for more food storage at both cabins.👍🏻

Its great to have a set up like this. You can easily get away from the crazy todays world. You could easily survive off the land if needed. A great bug out spot or a year around home! Only concern i would have is when you get older everything becomes more difficult as ive found out! Im glad i have made enough wood up for several years. This allows me to add to my supply as i feel able to do so. Have you ever thought about digging a root cellar to keep things cool and a place to store food preps?
