As a flutist, my professor taught me something similar: Solo pieces are a great chance to detect and highlight if a flautist has or not appropriate technique, musicality and overall interpretation He'd also tell me that slow pieces are often more taxing on the lower lip and the on technique overall - which is very true - especially when said pieces/movements consist of long tones and call for expressive phrasing

I can hear the difference in the same songs I've Sung for fifty years. I'm 64. The instrument keys. The right pitch to sing high low. Whether it's a sad or happy song or in between. and sometimes I can hear each music instrumental separately. Or All at once? Wow

So very true! Also, A simple arrangement can usually call for larger/longer Reverb or space. I enjoy learning songs with minimal instrumentation as it demands very careful vocal technique. I sing predominantly Josh Groban material where the vocal is very challenging, requiring solid Breath support. Love from Las Vegas
