Different fluids can have different effects on metal and sometimes make waterblocks very difficult to clean. This is how I usually get my blocks to look new again!

The toothpaste would probably be just as good on the plexi as well because it's used to repolish headlights on cars that get that foggy look to them. Just a thought.

Indeed. Also you can easily polish plexi (from foggy to clear) with steel polishing fluid which I think has about equal abrasiveness to toothpaste

The bug spray OFF Works REALLY GOOD TOO!!
@nosch43
@nosch43 5 жыл бұрын
the spray will work great, except you're essentially melting layers of the plastic away which is why it looks so good, it also leaves the plastic much more vunerable to future stress cracks and micro fissures which both weaken the structure and fog it up. Anyone who details an automobile will tell you if you use bug spray on your headlights to shine them up, you'd be better off just buying a new pair. Some metal polish or toothpaste and a little elbow grease gets the job done right the first time so you don't have to fix your mistake later on.

@JayzTwoCents : You can get a very fine polishing paste in which you end up mixing it with water to make it finer and do a final polish with it. It's usually used by body-shops in polishing the new and old lacquer together to get a seamless mirror finish.

Thanks for the video Jay! I have a quick question and I hope someone here can answer it. I'm going to be building my first watercooled PC next month and I am going to be using the EK 240g and I wanted to know if the water needs to go out the same side of the block it went in on. On almost all build videos I've seen you do you have it go in and come out on the plastic side of the block. I was wondering if you could have it go in on the water block side and have it come out on the back plate side.

Get dome citric acid, dirt cheap and can usually usually be had i reasonable quantities if you have no other needs for it. Many grocery stores carry it, check the baking section. Starting out with citric acid makes it much easier to get the levels right, vs lemon juice etc. And there are no minor pulp material in it that will stick hard AF if you miss it and it dries on the cleaned surface. Don't clean plexi/acrylic with it though (POM/acetal is fine), and try to stay below 5% for plated blocks. Don't soak them overnight - you wanna keep an eye on them.

If you only have distilled water in the loop make sure you add a drop of PT Nuke so it doesn't grow bacteria or algae over time, then you should be good for a long time. Newbie here, may I ask, if I intend on filling up my system with just distilled water and biocide (since I've heard this removes any impurities and corrosion from happening) do I still need to manually remove the tubes and scrub them clean (including the nozzles, gpu & cpu blocks, water blocks) for maintenance purposes? I don't intend on using dyes for my water cooling system but I was wondering if I still had to take apart the whole water loops and clean them out every 6 months or so. Answers are highly appreciated :) pls pardon my ignorance.

how did he clean the distro plate once he was done scrubbing with the tooth paste. Like there were no details after the fact of brushing it and padding it with moist shop towel. Do you apply enough Distilled water to the towel to wipe the residue of the paste? How do you get all of the crytals off? Or do you just pad / wipe as best as you can then flush the rest with distileed water when its set back up into the loop. I want to clean my block exactly the way he does it without removing it from the GPU.

Gents, I had to clean a gpu block recently. It has been lying dry with thick green coolant stuck to all the parts of it inside for a year. Toothpaste and toothbrush did nothing. I also tried a spong and soap, it did not work. Then I tried an alcohol pad. I immediately noticed that the pad quickly becomes green, scrabbing a lot of dried coolant. And then I had another brilliant idea. I applied alcohol on a cotton q-tip and suddenly I saw that I have a progress. I literally started to remove most of the coolant. Feeling excited, I kept applying alcohol on more and more Q-tips getting the block cleaner and cleaner. I wish I could show you my water block before and after. It is 98% clean now. I would not be able to do it without both, alcohol and Q-tips. One last tip: wear gloves. My hands are completely dry after soaking in alcohol. Best wishes to my PC water cooling enthusiasts

Jay the screws on the block can create a rust/ gunk like look , even if there’s no water passing threw them, i don’t know the material of the screws but they may not be galvanized/ treated screws, they could be just be cheap silver screws just painted black , i may be wrong but its a factor you can think about, it can be wood, metal,plastic, or even plexiglass, over time the screws can give it that gunk look over time microscopically.. for example - oil from your hands or even holding the screws for a period of time, or even removing and Re-applying them can cause the etch of the screw to become Vulnerable over time , I just find it simple to use rubber gloves to prevent anything like that happening.

I built my first custom loop 5 years ago, if you check that the O-rings are seated properly and don't overtighten the fittings it's pretty easy. The hardest part in my opinion is the routing of your tubes/lines, the less complicated you make it the better it is usually. I went with thicker tubes in the beginning because they are more resistant to kinking, if you don't care about colouring your fluids EK ZMT is pretty solid and doesn't build up gunk in your system like some clear tubes do (I'm looking at you Masterkleer). Building a custom loop and seeing it working is a lot of fun actually!
@pr0xZen
@pr0xZen 5 жыл бұрын
Keep it simple, allowing yourself some flex when planning and cutting the lengths of soft tubing will make maintenace a lot more comfortable, and there will be less tension on fittings/joints. Don't be afraid of used fittings if cost is important, just make sure to get replacement and spare O-rings. I personally shy away from used double rotary/"adjustsble angle" fittings because I haven't figured out a way to replace the internal seals on those. And leak test with only the pump connected to power. AIOs and their parts are manufactured, assembled and sealed under strict controlled circumstance. Same goes for their coolant. No clear or translucent tubing either (for light, algea etc). They are great for what they are, just not particulary exciting compared to custom :) I believe Gamers Nexus does have a some good vids on the internals of AIOs, both generally and after a good bit of runtime.If

What if you used like a 600 grit sandpaper on the plexiglas to rid it of the machine marks? Or would that do more harm than good?

Where did you get that green fluid JayzTwoCents? The pastel colors i have found so far has had the tag "Only use for a week before replacing fluid" on them. Which i find pretty annoying.. What am saying is i also want to be sort of lazy and have the fluid for as long as possible. Pls halp D: Ps. Very nice video :D well done

lordwarblade, pretty sure he uses Mayhems Pastel which is long term use. I think EK also has some new pastel coolant but would probably stick with Mayhems as been in wide use for longer.

I haven't even watched this but I know I need it. I'm running Vue running on 6 months. It's gonna need a good bit of elbow grease I'd imagine.

Can anybody help me please, I have an Asus strix B350 f motherboard and when my pc is plugged in the mobo lights up but when I try to turn the pc on just nothing happens at all, I've tried un plugging the 8 pin connection and the 24 pin connection and the power button connection then plugging them all back in, I've also tried removing the gpu completely and removing the ram and yet still nothing apart from the lit up mobo, if anybody can help I would appreciate it
