Seems cheap. Probably much cheaper than paying someone to get a custom loop. Plus you get to keep the kit for any changes, new builds, or helping out friends/family. Actually I'd volunteer to help my buddy 1st for practice, then I'd do my own after I got better at it :D

I actually bought one of these for a build I was doing for myself, it was the first time I'd done hard tubing and I'd been trying to eye-ball everything with mixed results, this really helped on certain sections. Not a necessity by any means but a nice kit to have if you can afford it!

If you're having trouble getting your mandrel in the tube, try hooking your vacuum up to the back side to help you pull it through. Pushing it in expands the flexible material and makes it harder to push in. Pulling it with string or vacuum shrinks it as it pulls it through making it stay easy to pull through. You can also pull it And push it through to help it out the rest if the way. You can thank me later. Get to it! C'mon do it! Do it now! Git to de choppa!!!!

Would it make sense to glue or otherwise fuse a little hook or "eye" to one end of a mandrel so you could just thread the tube with some string, tie it to the hook and help pull the mandrel through the tube? Or do you just tie the string to the mandrel somehow, after having threaded the tube? I'm sorta wanting to try out making my own custom water loop for my rig, so just scowering the interwebs before I make any purchases or whatnot.

Depending on material, put a small chamfer and a hole for the string to pass through.

@Christoffer Högman Incorrect. Any vacuum helps a lot. Ever see electricians run wire through a long conduit? Tie a string around a rag, if it can almost seal to the tube, that's better, then apply suction to the other end with a shop vac. Pushing a mandrel as I said makes it swell because the leading edge and sides all push back. Pulling it makes it skinnier instead of fatter. Pushing it makes it harder to move. Pulling it makes it easier to move. If the suction isn't enough then you can push a little more. Try it before you say that someone is full of shit. If it didn't work for you, give details and maybe someone can help you or point out if you did something wrong.

Be a aircraft mechanic with over 21years of experience it's a no brainer for me, I would buy the kit. I have used and built my own jigs for my job even one time use jigs just to run wires or hydraulic lines. So the cost of a kit to me is not as important as the quality of the work I can do. I have more money into my toolboxes than most ppl have in a car. At the $250 price tag for this kit it would be a great tool.
@Broadpaw_Fox
@Broadpaw_Fox 6 жыл бұрын
Shannon Hopper - this kit is only $250? That's actually much better than I was expecting for something made in Germany to tight tolerances... And ditto on the tools and jigs to do the job properly. I've been building my own computers for as long as you were an aircraft mechanic, and something like this would be right up my alley even as a hobby user - especially at only $250... I really was expecting it to be more. I might actually look into this.

I am instrument fitter, and i also see the appeal of this set, and i ordered the one he was showing for €199.79 inc. VAT + €0.25 screw to get the +€200 free shipping for the build i was going to start. The thing i like about it is that if your off by 5mm or so, you just adjust the parts on the board, reheat it, and bend/push/pull it in to the shape, and you know that your spot on. And you can also measure your setup and write it down, take photo of it if you like, and re-bent your new tubes if they are stained.

thorough kit. the ruler needs a sliding holder for the fittings or a way to be held by the fittings. that way you can measure a 2 or 3 bend tube with less measuring issues. that or a sliding track like a drawer slide with a ruler measurement marked on it that fit together.

As I am looking to do watercooling for the first time, any tool that makes it easier is worth the money, and there is a very good chance once I start I will do more then one of my own computers with it over the years, not to mention helping/renting it to a friend/family once they see what I have built. Most tools look really overprice till you use them and then you are happy to have it, and that doubles everytime you find another reason to use it.

If I was going to go through the trouble of a custom loop (which I haven't done, my cpu has an aio and my gpu just has the usual air cooler), I would do hardline. And if I was going to go through the trouble of doing hardline, I'd highly consider a kit like that because I want it to look good and I'm a perfectionist (plus, even if I'm only going to use it once, I'd need a heat gun and a bunch of other stuff anyways so I don't really think the kit would add much to the price relative to the price of everything else). Assuming that tube sizes for loops don't change anytime soon, the kit would still be relevant later on (eventually I would upgrade something, and unless the blocks wind up in EXACTLY the same place with the new hardware that means I'd need new tubes as well).

@gunndygaming
@gunndygaming 6 жыл бұрын
Anytime you use something to cool any material faster than natural radiant cooling allows, you stand the chance of warping or cracking the material. Basically the same as if you heat something too fast. The more rapid the temp change either way, the more the material can develop defections.
@Aepek
@Aepek 6 жыл бұрын
Gunndy Gaming Thanks for reply. I do know the laws/principles of rapidly cooling/heating materials etc....and typically probably not a good idea to spray if super hot right after heating to cool, as would probably cause defects. What I was wondering though if the cold spray itself would cause serious issues with the tubing, like some kind of reaction or something. Haven't had any issues with past builds(as I don't spray on after do a bend, wait few seconds till able to touch without being "hot", than spray to cool all the way down to ambient, but is this like a major NO/NO; as this is how I was taught many many years ago 😄 Welcome any feedback or opinions as I don't know everything & can ALWAYS learn something new. Cheers, A

I would probably buy this. I find it for $210. I have the Monsoon anodized aluminum kit currently. What I use is fiberboard (MDF) that I screw my bends into. I like threading into the cheese plate of this kit which will avoid the mess of splinters/shavings/sawdust etc of the MDF. There will always be mess with deburring the PETG, but I do like how you can do 2 different sizes with this kit while you have to buy a specific size with the Monsoon kit.

cant wait for the Xflow vs U?-FLow radiatiors. Because I am convinced that there will be next to no difference in performance between the two and will hopefully help people clean up their loops as U-Flow causes headaches sometimes.

Burrs are extremely important to remove. They can cause turbulent currents in the tubing, which, over time, can lead to pinhole leaks.

This got me thinking about how I always bend brake lines by hand. Because I seem to mess up more using tool lol.

Pretty badass kit, I like specialized tools, coming from an automotive background I've become quite fond of them. Time is money, it will definitely pay for itself.

Even I could make professional bends with something like that ! They only need to add the one extra part to make tighter bends, as you said.

Nice video Jay. A a profession refrigeration engineer now retired I can say yes I would buy that tool kit for just one job. Always quality over quantity. I have tools in my tool boxes in my shop that I will most likely never use again some costing way more than 250.00 usd. I am looking at the possibility of water cooling my custom built PC. I have even considered building a custom R134a AC unit but that would be total over kill as water cooling already has all the parts designed and in use.

I'm not the kind of person who can do things like that by eye, so when I built my first watercooled pc (also hardline because yolo) I bought the thermaltake kit. It has a few of the bend guide pieces that the alphacool kit does but doesn't have anything like the cheeseboard. I found that it was useful for a few of the bends but most of the time in a compound bend the guides got in the way and I had to bend it by eye anyway. For example do your double 90 again but bring the two 90 bends really close together on the tube.

That kit is great. Just imagine all the industrial looking really professional looking builds you could do with that much consistency. Imagine you needed to run 4 lines near the same spot. You take a picture of case, draw digitally where you want the lines, print that sheet, place the sheet on the board to set your jig up, and then you have like 4 parallel lines next to eachother like perfectly neat.

I’d be willing to buy a kit like that for a first custom loop build and down the road may decide to try different bend configurations using the kit. Also would use it when I decide to build a new system or when I upgrade my system and requires doing a new custom loop due to the new parts.

did your patented eyeball method my first hardline build, it cost me a lot of PETG. my eye doesnt seem quite as good :P, did get one of those bending tools (one of the cheap one's) got the job done. for the "refresh" i did this year i went from 90 degree bends to all (atleast where it's visible) 45 degree bends, tested those with the eyeball method and the tool and ruined a petg tube getting only 1 "in case of emergency" tube wound up getting a bender bending rodrigues bending tool (it's basically a slab of acrylic) worked really well, had to get creative with some but all were very smooth and consistent.

This does look like an awesome toolkit, what would be interesting is how well it could manage the bends on a single tube with less fittings required to reduce those leak points. that's where i could see the benefits of that toolkit.

Hey Jay. Would love to see a video on at what point does adding radiator size stop dissipating heat anymore. Eg: so heat production isnt the limiting factor, use a hot setup, 7900x and titan or 1080ti overclocked heavily. Start with a 120mm. See what temps the system hits and how long it takes to equalize. then change to a 240/280, then a 360, then 480 etc etc. Would be interestingn to see the results and also help custom loop noobs like myself. Thanks.

Wish I would have found this video before I purchased multiple separate kits to get what I was going for. I am sure I spend more on multiple tools than just buying this. And those kits can not even effectively measure. I still may buy this if it is still available, if I can save time and money by "think twice, cut once" it is worth it. BTW you may have wanted to start on the fitting/stop end first instead of the other way around. Thank you for the video. 😁

I just bought this kit to dual system build in a Phanteks Enthoo Elite and a single build in a Corsair 760T. With the kit itself the mandrel bends are a bit too wide especially for 90 degree turns. Also one of the simplest additions missing is a set or two of 90 brackets for doing multibend runs. By adding the 90 degree brackets for mount the rulers it allows you easily transition on different planes. Thus keeping your measurements squared up properly so you dont run short or long on numerous bends. Lastly a good option would have also been to add 1 mm shims for the end stoppers. Their end stopper is designed for Alphacool fittings but their stylus stopper is also too long for at least EKWB Torque fittings. This means aways needing to cut a few millimeters off or up to 9 millimeters off each tube end. Another option could have been to add two more cheese plates to simulate a back or front plates in your pc. One thing I have found frustrating is also the case for Phanteks. Looking at it you would think anything is possible but even the mounting area for the pumps wasn't really thought out well. There are no factory pass through points and if you are running a Corsair ax1200i you will find real quick it takes up so much room it blocks logical outlet and inlet lanes for feeding the pumps. It almost forces you to run soft tubing on the backplane. Additionally their radiator mount for the side case causes many limitations especially in a multi radiator build. I am trying to use that radiator mount to mount two EKWB Quantum Volume flat res's. The 360 facing the main part of the case and the 240 facing the back side of the case. The 240 could then be seen through their vent screen on the side. Problem is for starters basic mounting. They've rolled the sheetmetal so close to the 120mm mounting holes down the side of this radiator mount on the back that you can't even mount a 120mm wide res there. 3 mm extra on the let and right and it would fit with one exception. The side panel screen is inset by almost 5 mm so now it gets in the way of the fittings. Also I've noticed that few things stay anywhere near a similar plane on the x, y and z axis. When they do they are actually too close to make bends. Even had I run different fittings with different heights it wouldn't help. So it forces me to ise more 90 degree fittings and make longer runs so I can pickup the distances needed in a few millimeters here or there.

Have you thought to attach a small string to the edge of the mandril (made from same heat resistant material? that way you can put that guideline through and pull on the mandril to fit in the tube much easier.
