I was a jewelry addict for most of my life. And bought so many watches too! (I live in Switzerland). I wasted so much money. Ughh! No matter how much I give away or sell, there is still a big pile I’m trying to free myself of. Huge regrets for the addiction. Now I’m in my 60s and I prefer to wear no jewelry! I wear my fitbit and a simple silver bangle. Rarely, I will wear a simple diamond solitaire and some understated diamond earrings. Save your money, and don’t indulge in impulse buying!

I recently did a second jewelry declutter and went from about 25 pairs of earrings to about 5. During this whole video, I was thinking of the items I own that have tarnished beyond help and realizing that they need to go, like so many other things I have let go recently. Thank you for sharing the history of each piece and why it does or does not serve you any longer. That helps me to be decisive about what I need to do next!
@janinetoliver54554 жыл бұрын
I really enjoy how you go through each item and share your thought process on why you kept it, why it may be challenging to get rid of, why your tossing it....That is so helpful for others trying to declutter (Rather than watching a video of someone on fast forward getting rid of their stuff). Thank you for your content!

Love this video - I have realised that most of my expensive shopping items have a very poor resale value. I have tried selling many things including expensive jewellery, clothes, even expensive bags and have got little to no money back. It just opened my eyes that I have purchased items in the past due to brand recognition and effective marketing, not because there is actual high value to these items. It has really opened my eyes and now I am very careful with my money and be mindful of marketing which can be very powerful! Thanks for this video xx

My second time watching as didn't get round to my jewellery decluttering until today ! Was shocked how much I had as it was very neatly stored away 🙄 I followed your lead and immediately discarded the discoloured costume jewellery (at least 20 items) Polished all the silver items and set 25 pieces aside to donate (11 rings, 11 necklaces, a brooch, 2 bracelets) Have kept 2 watches, 3 rings, 10 bracelets, 7 silver necklaces with pendants and 5 beaded necklaces and 5 pairs silver earrings. That is 32 pieces left though 7 of these are 'maybes' so probably end up with 25 from an original amount of 77. That is almost 70% gone !!! Incredible how our taste changes- I usually just wear my watch, silver stud earrings and occasionally a ring or bracelet. Thanks for giving me the incentive to do this Vera 🙋♀️🌟

I love buying handmade/artist designed jewelery but some of it has low quality chains and it's difficult to part with them for 2 reasons. 1. knowing someone designed that themselves and 2. how expensive they were! Buuut my style has changed through the years.. i hope I can build the courage to let these things go like you can. You just seem so freed from that consumerist mindset but not pushy at all. This video has inspired me to become more aware of why I have kept hold of certain pieces of jewellery and assured me that it's ok to let some of those pieces go. Thank you, I now have a little amount of jewellery in my jewellery box but I'm extremely happy about it as it isn't physically and emotionally cluttered any more. For someone who is minimalistic anyway, I'm surprised how much I was hoarding there based solely on emotional attachment!!

I realized at a young age I started to declutter my room. Of course it wasn’t much. I was only about 11 and didn’t know about a minimalist lifestyle. But now that I’ve been decluttering for a while now I’m taking it a lot more seriously. Sadly I’m only 19 and live with my family so I’m around “junk” and “clutter” all the time. And my mom and family hold on to things I wish I could just get rid of lol

Hi Vera, I was waiting for this video, I love watching jewelry declutter videos. I also feel I don’t need a lot of jewelry anymore, where in the past, I used to love to have a lot to choose from. I now really want to narrow it down to my signature pieces. I have donated 65% of what I owned, and honestly never thought of one piece since I did. Today is a perfect day to scale it down even more, since we are in quarantine, it will give me something to do. I have walked around aimlessly trying to declutter, but not much to declutter anymore, but jewelry I can...

This video came at a great time. With all this self quarantine in the world it gives us something productive but fun to do. I tried about a year ago to declutter my jewelry and did a bit BUT I still kept way too much. Jewelry from the person I was not the person I am now. You've said a few times on different videos that our styles and tastes change over the years and it's ok to let go of the things that no longer serve who we are today. That has really stuck with me and helped me to reevaluate my belongings from clothes to furniture and everything in between. So thank you! Hope you and your family are staying safe in these uncertain times. Thank you for continuing to make and post new videos. It's comforting to have some normalcy in the week.

As a teenager I used to buy silver jewelry, but I never liked the color so much. Sometimes I bought low quality pieces that were damaged in a few uses. So I decided to invest in only gold pieces and I love the golden color on my skin! Now a days I have pieces from 10... 15 or even 20 years ago and they are still in perfect condition because of their high quality 😃 so I can admit they worth the investment!

A few years ago I got rid of all that cheap jewellery have gradually built a nice collection. Because gold has such a big environmental footprint I mostly stick to silver. One ‘trick’ I used is that I bought a silver and a gold chain and have several pendants or even coins I can use with them. Btw, that woven gold ring is divine!

I used to love digging around in the McDonald's ball pit. I would find trash, but also small change and little baubles. Once I found $20. Sneaking a couple tarnished trinkets into the ball pit might make some kid's day. Didn't matter to me if some gold tone had rubbed or flaked off. If it's not sharp and it was going in the trash... I would have been thrilled. Of course over time the baubles got trashed, but before that they had served one more purpose before going in a trash bag.

Jewlery is on my list to declutter. I also have issues with cheap or certain metals coloring me green or black. Also I am really allergic to white gold. It causes my skin to bubble. But I can wear yellow gold, silver and black hills gold. I have had this issue forever. We noticed it when I was young with earrings. My ears would sore and infected really easy. Right now I have so much jewlery that I need to go through. I had a friend who made jewlery awhile back and I got a lot of her pieces that I just don't wear. Or have a lot that I can't wear.

Simple Happy Zen I am enjoying my slow but sure process and some good memories when I handle a piece and make a decision. One old pearl necklace actually broke so I decided to take all the “pearls” , in a little bag, to our local library to add to their craft box for children’s activities. A feel good decision.

Well thought out. Good work. I also like the idea of a maybe pile. I have very few pieces for myself. One pair diamond stud earrings, wedding band, birthstone ring.

@@SimpleHappyZen for xmas/birthday cards, may I seek your advice on how to declutter ?
@frockinj11 ай бұрын
@@Alison-rw5fd I used to keep every greeting card. Special/family Christmas cards can be kept and for others use some front designs for craft or card making, and donate or recycle the rest. Older cards can be gone through every so often and any that you don’t recognise the sender names can be let go. You can always take photos or scan cards to digitise them, or frame really interesting antique or pretty designs . If elderly relatives stop sending cards you can put out cards they sent previously :)

Hi Vera, Just a idea - make a key chain of the pendant from Japan that you are not sure of. That way you can save the pendant if you are not wearing it as a necklace.

I decluttered my jewelry few days ago and going to donate them. I decided just to keep the gold and silver jewelry because the other metals going to turn their color no matter what. The only problem I have is my watches I only use Apple Watch but I can't let go of the other watches!! anyways my advice is to invest in few original pieces of jewelry instead of the cheap ones they'll last forever. thank you Vera I love the video.

@SimpleHappyZen4 жыл бұрын
Hahaha it was like that for me the first time too. You could also try thinking of a specific number of jewelry items you'd like to end up with, and then pick your favorites to match that number and get rid of the rest. Good luck!

I have several necklaces and rings I haven't parted with bc I paid good money for them and they're beautiful. They are all genuine crystals so they hold special meaning to me. I have them hanging on a pretty thingy on my closet wall so every day I get dressed, I see them and am reminded that I haven't let go of them. Will anyone ever love them as much as they deserve??????

Hi Kristi. :) Maybe ask yourself, are they happy living there? If so, it's no problem for you to hang onto them, at least for now :)

Hi Vera, I love your videos. Thanks for all you do. You are an inspiration. I have watched many of your videos and have been decluttering. I am taking the things I have left, including jewellery and noticing what I wear and what I don't. I have placed what I wear in one drawer and am being mindful for what I wear and how and why. I am hoping that it will give me the same understanding as you have of which items to keep and which to declutter. I think this helps me a lot and gives me the structure I need to declutter what is left that I am not sure about. Veel liefte :)

@@SimpleHappyZen Hi again, Vera. I just signed up for your "in love with your life" course. Although I have wanted to do it for a while, I was not sure that I would have the focus to do it and complete it. The current climate of social distancing has spurred me on to take advantage of this opportunity and to go for it. I can't wait to get started. Thanks for creating this course. I am struggling with getting rid of a lot of my jewellery. I have been able to get rid of some. The items I'm having difficulty getting rid of I have worn and loved a lot ...the problems is my style has changed quite drastically since I started minimalism. I used to love huge earrings and lots of rings and statement necklaces but all in a very 'natural' or boho style. Now I only like one simple, small necklace and very small earrings. What I am concerned about is that I am 'unconsciously ' following trends....a short time ago 'boho' was very 'in' and that was my style and now simple, small necklaces are 'in' and huge jewelry is generally not in style so much " So I have quite a few big, boho necklaces and earrings that I love but are not my 'current style'....I think....or the issue might be that I do have quite a different style in the summer versus the winter. 'Boho' style in a Canadian winter just doesn't work or look 'normal'. Last summer though I had already started my minimalist journey and I mostly only wore tiny, simple necklaces and none of the big statements ones. The items I have are so unique and 'special' ( most not very expensive) I am concerned that the boho, big necklace trend will come back, or I'll just decide I want to go big, and chunky again and I will have gotten rid of my very unique and special items. This summer maybe if I do not wear them again...hopefully I can get rid of a few more of the least special ones.

I seldom wear jewelry. My job didn't allow wearing and now I forget it all the time. Sometimes an occasion like a graduation, X mas or a special birthday makes me wear it. All items are special, heritage and gifted. It's a very small collection as I don't buy jewelry. What isn't needed anymore is repurposed into stitch markers, key chains or art. Even my cats play with one of the items which hangs down a ribbon for them to play with. I love to gift special items too, the girlfriends of my sons, special people.
