Introduction to some of the elements of the Industrial Revolution, more on this subject to come!
The economic developments of the 1800s saw the development of agrarian and handicraft economies in Europe and America transform into industrial urbanised ones.
The term to describe this phenomenon would be known as the ‘Industrial Revolution’ and was first used by French writers, but made popular by English economic historian Arnold Toynbee.

"The Industrial Revolution and its consequences have been a disaster for the human race. They have greatly increased the life-expectancy of those of us who live in “advanced” countries, but they have destabilized society, have made life unfulfilling, have subjected human beings to indignities, have led to widespread psychological suffering (in the Third World to physical suffering as well) and have inflicted severe damage on the natural world. The continued development of technology will worsen the situation. It will certainly subject human being to greater indignities and inflict greater damage on the natural world, it will probably lead to greater social disruption and psychological suffering, and it may lead to increased physical suffering even in “advanced” countries. The industrial-technological system may survive or it may break down. If it survives, it MAY eventually achieve a low level of physical and psychological suffering, but only after passing through a long and very painful period of adjustment and only at the cost of permanently reducing human beings and many other living organisms to engineered products and mere cogs in the social machine. Furthermore, if the system survives, the consequences will be inevitable: There is no way of reforming or modifying the system so as to prevent it from depriving people of dignity and autonomy. If the system breaks down the consequences will still be very painful. But the bigger the system grows the more disastrous the results of its breakdown will be, so if it is to break down it had best break down sooner rather than later. We therefore advocate a revolution against the industrial system. This revolution may or may not make use of violence; it may be sudden or it may be a relatively gradual process spanning a few decades."

Introduction: The world has changed drastically in the last two centuries. Technology has advanced, population has grown, and the economy has become more global. With these changes, we have seen the emergence of new challenges, some of which are difficult to solve. This essay will explore the challenges of the global economy, and how they can be addressed. Body: The global economy has faced a number of challenges in recent years. One of the most pressing issues is income inequality. Inequality between countries can lead to a lack of access to resources, which can leave some people in poverty or without basic needs. Additionally, inequality can lead to political instability and civil unrest, as people become frustrated with the lack of opportunity. Another challenge is the environmental impact of the global economy. The burning of fossil fuels for energy has caused air pollution, which can have devastating effects on health. In addition, deforestation and overfishing have put pressure on the environment, leading to a decrease in biodiversity and a decrease in the overall quality of life. Finally, the global economy has seen an increase in economic volatility, as economic downturns can have a ripple effect on other countries. Conclusion: The challenges of the global economy are complex and require a collaborative effort to

Tom Flynn Im not talking about GDP, that might have been a misunderstanding. I am talking about heavy industry. I read that Britain was first for a couple of decades (since the evolution started there), then Germany surpassed it in industrial capacity (of some sort, Im not sure what exactly is included into heavy industry) and then USA surpassed Germany right before WW1.

The Industrial Revolution and its consequences have been a disaster for the human race. This revolution may or may not make use of violence; it may be sudden or it may be a relatively gradual process spanning a few decades. We can’t predict any of that. But we do outline in a very general way the measures that those who hate the industrial system should take in order to prepare the way for a revolution against that form of society. This is not to be a POLITICAL revolution. Its object will be to overthrow not governments but the economic and technological basis of the present society. In this article we give attention to only some of the negative developments that have grown out of the industrial-technological system. Other such developments we mention only briefly or ignore altogether. This does not mean that we regard these other developments as unimportant. For practical reasons we have to confine our discussion to areas that have received insufficient public attention or in which we have something new to say. For example, since there are well-developed environmental and wilderness movements, we have written very little about environmental degradation or the destruction of wild nature, even though we consider these to be highly important.

The British didn’t spend a lot on a standing army during the industrial revolution due to its safety of being an island? I love your videos and rarely counter them, however I’m going to have to dispute this fact. The sun never sets on the British empire.
@Gloriaimperial1
@Gloriaimperial1 2 жыл бұрын
Britain is an island, and it wasn't invaded by Spain, France and Prussia in four weeks. All the European powers suffered devastating invasions. We must remember that to stop the invasion of France, the first world power in the 19th century, governed by the best military strategist in history, Napoleon, the British only lost 1,000 sailors at Trafalgar. Napoleon's invasion of Spain caused half a million deaths, and sank the economy by 80%, plus a million emigrants to America. Destruction of industry, agriculture, livestock, cities and roads, and social and revolutionary convulsions throughout the nineteenth century. Just like France, Russia, Italy or Germany. Without Great Britain's island status, the industrial revolution would have been impossible. Japan has a similar situation. If Japan were not an island, it would not have been an industrial power so soon. Most likely, Japan would have been invaded by the Mongols, or by China, which in turn had violent wars in the tension between communists and nationalists.

A standing army isn't a navy. Britain prioritised it's navy as it was a world spanning empire on an island thus had no reason to have a major land army
@Gloriaimperial1
@Gloriaimperial1 2 жыл бұрын
@@lordgemini2376 I believe that if Great Britain were not an island, they would have created a continental empire in Europe, once, like Italy, Spain, Germany and France, privileging a powerful land army. But they would also have once suffered devastating invasions, which would have disrupted the stability of the British for the last 500 years, destroying the industrialization and expansion possibilities of the British empire. At the time of the terrestrial discoveries, the 16th century, England was able to contain the tension between Catholics and Protestants. But France could not, because she was invaded several times by Spain, and she had to accept Catholicism. Germany is also divided between Catholics and Protestants, and they were only able to unite (like England and Scotland) in 1860. Italy was only able to unite in the 19th century, because it was constantly intervened by France, Italy, Spain and Austria. Spain began to lose its expanding world empire when Napoleon invaded Spain in 1808. Britain and France had an alliance in the 19th century. But the Prussians could only invade Paris, because the UK was an island. In 1940 Paris and all France was invaded. The United Kingdom re-embarked its soldiers, and was able to contain the invasion with aerial measures, and a large fleet, of course. But the Nazis almost reached Moscow, they invaded Rome, Amsterdam, Brussels, Copenhagen... It is very hard to believe that if the British were not an island, it would have been enough to have a large land army, to prevent the invasion of London, because there is always a hegemonic power that is impossible to stop by land in 500 years.
