Simplex 900: Combination Chamber & Button Lock Issues including Old Style Reset Teardown

Finally got around to doing this on the Simplex 900’s we replaced a couple months ago due to “codes not working”
We are going to strip one down to show the issues and try to reset the old style combination chamber.

Note: kinda at the beginning I mentioned I was going to tear the combination chamber ALL the way down but there is really no point in stripping it down gear by gear, seems like it would be tedious and one would never get it back together ;) Anything (tear down wise) past what I do in this video is generally not advisable

I found the Pro-Lok auto face cap pliers make quick work of those old style Simplex chamber covers and makes it simple to press back on.👍

Nice. I have worked on a few Simplex 1000's now and it looks like the same combination chamber. All the Chambers I worked on have a sticker tell you not to open the chamber, and have sight windows (cut outs) for calculating the current combination for resetting. The problems I have had were not the combo chambers but the clutching of the handle.

sprong replacement (yes I meant sprong) is a video I've needed to do but I've been kinda waiting on "having to do it and being able to film it" vs "just doing it to film just haven't had a broken one to replace in a minute but now that I mention it .... :/

After the big lawsuit with KABA they changed the chambers out to the one's with the site windows in them. The old style Jason was working on can be opened with a earth magnet. The new "site window" chambers can't be opened with a magnet. All those chambers may look close but the spindle's are different.

@@locksny that was only on the models with the tabs for putting it in passage mode (can’t recall the model number) it doesn’t directly affect the chamber itself. That’s a whole other video I’ve had in my mind for a couple of years to do :)

already have the example locks sitting in a box kinda in the way collecting more dust…might have to knock that one out so I can store that irritating box It has a little metal flap that engages inside the combo chamber and the magnet pulls it away to activate it

I find it easier to decode the buttons (using the same method the newer chambers with the windows use) even on the old chambers. That also gives you a chance to see if there is some other issue with the chamber gearing.

UNICAN invented the button "adapter" to work the Simplex invented code box as a very strange arrangement. UNICAN eventually acquired Simplex. Such a "weird" set of mechanisms to combine. An extremely successful product as a cornerstone to UNICAN's success

I have a manipulation manual on those locks somewhere. Came with a Simplex 3000 lock but it's missing something because the latch isn't retracting, or maybe I'm just doing it wrong.

@@selock Yes.. I've watched them all now (I think). You taught me how to pull the bar and reset the gears... so that's good. But I was hoping to find a video of a complete breakdown of a simplex and how it actually works inside, in detail. No one has done it, apparently
