I try so hard to paint as you do!! You manage to keep your paintings so fresh. Tell me you didn't learn how to do this overnight!

Thanks so much for your response. It took me about 6 rough paintings to get to this execution. Lots of crumbled tries laying on the studio floor. I haven't posted for a while because I am experimenting with some new ideas, which comes with many failures. Keep going and you will succeed.

@@look4light For some reason I feel much better knowing you have lots of crumbled tries on your studio floor. Do you have any on-line workshops?

Absolutely love your tutorials and am trying to absorb how you simplify with such simply stunning results. Do you ever do thumbnail pencil sketches before your watercolor sketches?
@look4light4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your feedback. Yes, I do about a dozen quick sketches to understand composition and simplify the landscape. In the opening of the video, you will see the camera scan all the watercolour and pencil sketches.

I'm always happy when I see a new painting tutorial you've made here! Usually I observe and study your process for a minute or two, then I go forward close to the end. At that point my thoughts are a combination of awe of the complexity yet simplicity along with "wha-the-? How did he achieve that effect over here?" Then I go back to where I left off and continue to watch carefully to the end. Thank you again for sharing your excellence here! :-)

Thanks dragonflycat. I don't think I will ever learn to fully control how watercolour pigment interacts with water. It's an ongoing learning curve. This watercolour sketch was one of 6 that I did. The other 5 sketches were warm-ups to this one. Sometimes when working out composition, I will create a dozen or so just to work out how I want the watercolour paint to flow. Watercolour painting is both frustrating and satisfying in the same breath . . . but it's so much fun!

I love your work and it has inspired my own Rothko-inspired paintings. I would love to know what brush you use in the first part of the video, for the blue washes. TIA
@look4light2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the comment. And the brushes I use for the washes are from Amazon. Budget friendly Chinese synthetic brushes. I buy loads of cheap brushes to try out. Hope that helps.

So beautiful! I am trying to learn watercolors and your colors are stunning! What brand do you recommend?
@look4light3 жыл бұрын
Hi Gloria, thanks for your comment. The brand I use is Winsor & Newton. For the most intense pigments I use the Professional series. These are expensive but they do satisfy my need for deep colours. I do believe Winsor & Newton have a variety of price points within their line up of watercolour paints.
