In tai chi you don't have to "go all the way down", she is keeping within the tai chi principals, and that is all that is needed, as far as the physical aspect goes. She more than likely got her title as sifu by way of chi cultivation, and knowledge of the forms and spiritual aspect.
@foxybrown29 жыл бұрын
Well if you are going to be an instructor you need to show the form correctly. Or you will be showing you students bad habits. This is great for her and her physical ability because Tai Chi is for your health also. but if you are a teacher you need to do the form correctly.
@jayd38749 жыл бұрын
foxybrown2 Agreed, but she may have been given the Sifu rank when she was younger and can no longer do the form properly, due to injury. A friend of mine was a natural at yoga, until an inner ear infection ruptured her ear drum and compromised her balance. She had to retrain her sense of balance. She is still good, but has trouble with some balance postures. If we really want to get into it, Taiji was an art of killing a man in combat. I doubt she is practicing taiji for that purpose. Since that was the original purpose, anyone practicing Taiji for health is practicing incorrectly. Taiji is what you want it to be.

I have practiced hard style martial arts for over 55 years and Tai Chi over 25 years. In the hard styles, we appreciated the performance of an individuals form even though it may be performed slightly different than the way our school performed it. The main thing that always disappointed me about Tai Chi is that practitioners are always so quick to criticize another's performance. Once, when I was teaching a form class for the YMCA I had a visitor from Canada drop in to my class. After class, he wanted to show me why his style was superior to ours. He asked to push me ( actually, more like demanded, in front of my students .) So I took a bow stance, and he proceeded to push on my chest. He could not move me. He became angry and stated that I was bracing myself with my back leg. I explained that I was simply sinking my chi, and rooting into my front foot, but he would not accept that. When he left, he went to the front desk and complained to the manager that they had a phony teaching Tai Chi at their facility. Too much jealousy and back stabbing in Tai Chi circles. I am always willing to learn from others, but not when it is presented with a " better than thou " attitude!

witchcerridwen;I just read your question, I am off to work but will get back to you,
@malocardo9 жыл бұрын
+witchcerridwen Tai chi, when taught and practiced correctly, gives you three very distinctive benefits: 1. strength in your core. It's just adding confusion by saying "internal", so let's just call it the "core"... You will start by seriously developing the quads and gluts and doing so without hampering the articulations of the joints as mandated by the movements, and keep developing from there. Can you get this by doing squads? Of course! But by incorporating turning, moving, and steping, tai chi develops targeted muscle groups in a totally different way. 2. focus on differentiating between substantial and insubstantial. In essence, being able to activate what is minimally needed to execute the movements. So various parts of your body must work synergistically. And this is the essential development for a good dynamic chain. This is one elusive quality that all world-class athletes possess, but even they have to train for it. 3. developing the "quoi". This is reserved for advanced practitioner. :) This is the ultimate goal The movements are done slowly for a reason. It forces you to focus on the the aforementioned goals by finding the body parts (which can take forever) and forces you to develop the habits of engaging and using them (which can also take forever). At the end of the day, like everything in life. It's how you do it that makes the mark. You can just go to the park and go through the motion and call it tai chi. But that's not all what tai chi is about. I hope this helps.
@malocardo9 жыл бұрын
+zenwarrior2003 Yep, that seems to happen in tai chi more often than other martial arts styles. For whatever it's worth, once you duke it out, the loser would have to shut up. But that's not how it's done in the "polite" tai chi community. Having said that, there should be a general consensus on what constitutes as "quality". And the ability to observe, identify, explain, quantify these key qualities is what separate the trained from untrained... I think there would be little discerns on what a good bow stance should look like... Anyway, I do hope there would be more video examples where we can watch and admire rather than watch and criticize.

You're wrong. Perfect external movement does not matter. It's how she moves it from the inside that matters. And she does a small frame version 24 form. Obviously, itt will look different. But looks is deceiving in Taichi. If her push hands is better than yours, then her form better than yours too because she's got the internals right.

Snake creeps down,: she did not go all the way down. Golden Rooster stands on one leg: she was having difficulty keeping her balance. Throughout, she was bobbing up and down. I agree with foxybrown2 that she is not a "sifu". She is probably a student with eight months of practice under her belt, and learned Tai Chi relatively late in life which is why she is unable to kick high.

People go on and on about how wonderful this practice is but I just can't get into it. It's like going to the gym for a workout, BO-ORING! Tennis I like and could play every day if I had someone who felt the same way to play with.

Two possibilities: - First, it's because you don't know what you're doing because your teacher isn't very good. You see it as a physical exercise when it is so much more. But either your teacher don't explain it to you, or you just think it's BS. - Second, Taichi is as boring as meditation. Especially if you don't know what you're doing.

Saludos
