When doing unpleasant tasks I find it helpful to take the mindfulness to thankfulness. Instead of being annoyed to clean the kitchen, I try to be thankful for having a kitchen and food to use dishes for. Or a floor to clean, meaning having a home to keep us dry and warm. I´m not exactly sure if that IS mindfulness but maybe taking charge of your emotions and turning them to a more positive thinking is also mindful and aware. Thanks, Vera, for another thoughtful video. I really appreciate you and look forward all week to your next video. 😃

I love mindfulness. I sometimes struggle since permanently loosing my sense of smell and taste. And struggling with hypersensitivity to lights and sounds. Trying really hard to be grateful of the senses I have instead of the ones I lost. ❤

I'm so sorry that you lost your senses of smell and taste... I think it's very inspiring that you're trying your best to focus on gratitude instead. That must not always be easy, but trying is what matters and that's amazing. Sending a hug your way

Great video, thank you! Regarding multi-tasking, which I've never been a fan of ..... a few years ago, in the states, some agency did a big, nation-wide study on multi-tasking in an office-setting. They discovered that workers in an office setting who were multi-tasking, had accomplished 34% LESS by the end of the day, and made MORE mistakes, than the workers who did one thing at a time. Don't know how they figure out this stuff, but it makes sense to me! So here's to doing one thing a a time (for me at home, anyway)! ❤

This is something I need to practice daily. I struggle with past pain and listening to what others have to say that is important. My mind wonders and I can easily be distracted by situation that happen in my head. Made up stories, thoughts and conversation that make me cry or feel some way where I end up shutting down n won’t talk to anyone. It’s crazy how I never think just to be mindfulness with everything and learning to understand it is possible. I want to be mindfulness.

One of my therapist's speciality is mindfulness and I find it to be beneficial even though it can be hard to keep it in mind from time to time. To me, mindfulness is something to practice every day because I notice that it is when I stop being mindful (most of the time it's like: "I'm feeling good now, I don't need to be that into these mindfulness exercises" etc) then I become less and less mindful. Mindfulness helps me stop overthinking what other people might think, the "secret meaning" behind their speech, etc. I now have this "only caring about what is actually here". I hope we can all work on being mindful and living peacefully and simply. Have a nice day Vera! 🥰
@SimpleHappyZen

That's so true! And I love what you said about not overthinking what other's might think, or what they actually meant when they said something, but just focus on what's actually here :)

Thank you so much for this video! I practise mindfulness since about ten years now, and the hardest part is letting go of my phone games when I feel bored. :) The thing I did when I was really annoyed about house cleaning was to use a stopwatch and measure the time some chores really took. I hated housework because I thought it SO time-comsuming. And using a watch showed me it was not. That was an eye-opener. Now I just do those things thinking about nothing else but doing them, and enjoy the nice feeling of a tidy place and cat-litter-free floores. The type of meditation that works best for me when I am home and have our cats arount I call cat-itation. When I'm upset or anxious ot stressed, I sit down and just watch the cats play or sleep, or touch them and listen to them purr for a while. It works perfectly for me.

Thanks for this video. It explained what mindfulness is without a lot of extras. In may ways, this is exactly what I do when I practice the flute. I am just a 'play for fun' tooter, but I am sure that my experience is similar to many other people who play an instrument. Where the mindfulness comes in is in making the transition from playing the notes to making music. It is too bad that so few people make music -- as opposed to consuming music. This practice has spilled over into the rest of my life, of course. For a non-obvious example, it informs the way that I write code. When I was coding 'professionally', this practice helped me to get into the zone and stay there. One major difficulty in maintaining this state of being is that, unlike a musical instrument, which has been refined over centuries to be as transparent as possible to the performer, development environments have only been around for 30 years or so (I have been coding fro >50 years), so writing code can be like walking through mud at times. Anyway, good video. I enjoy your channel.

I started using my phone in a gray-scale mode. It really makes everything less 'attention catching' and 'triggering'. Plus it makes me want to put my phone away more. Thank you for your tips, I think by aiming to do just 1 thing a day mindfully takes this pressure away of having to be mindful at all times, which is not possible. I will try to practice mindfulness a little bit more each day now.

This was a good ‘reminder to be mindful’! You mentioned that we have shorter attention spans these days. I remember when my two daughters were in their teens, (20 years ago)😮….. I would sometimes get them to watch some of my favourite old movies with me. They were movies from my younger years, and I only picked the real good ones. They really found them so draggy… they said everything happened way too slow and so the movies were boring. I found it so interesting that they would think that! So even back then…. Their favourite shows had very quick scenes, no time to even think about what you just saw….. on to the next scene. Now everything is moving even faster! I guess it’s how our attention is grabbed and we get sucked down the proverbial rabbit hole! 🐰

Thank you for this teaching. I have been practicing mindfulness for many years, like you, and sometimes get annoyed with myself that I'm often still feeling all the things. I'm going to bookmark this video to watch regularly to remind myself that "noticing" is the practice. It gives me the opportunity to change my thoughts. I also know that I'm much more overall happy and more relaxed than I used to be. Yesterday my husband and a friend were exasperated about a situation and discussing with great passion how annoying it was. I found myself standing up and walking away to the ladies' room for some deep breaths and calm thoughts and I came back detached from the issue. That was an almost automatic response on my part and later I told myself, "You've come a long way, Karen" which felt really good. xo karen

Thanks Vera for this clear explanation and the examples. I saved this video in my file so I can easily get to it. The strange thing is that I always lived this way without knowing it was mindfulness, but the last 15 years or so everything changed and not for the better. So I will certainly start with it as soon as I’m feeling a bit better again (just got out of hospital).

Dear Vera😊 I really love this video. As always for me it’s the perfect moment. I definately can relate to all the things you said about what occupies your mind, most of all the exhausting conversations in your mind. I used to walk my dog for half an hour in the morning and after returning to my house I realized that I had been so caught up in my thoughts and half an hour had just disappeared without me noticing it. I would not even have been able to tell you where I went by. It was all automatic. I acted like a robot and I felt like one. I‘m still struggeling with that feeling. To accept that a task can be done in different ways either automatically trying to get it done or mindfully enjoying the process really is a gamechanger. Can it be that simple (the perfectionist in me is still wondering😂)? This is so inspiring and I am sure I will watch it again and again to keep it in mind.

I'm really trying to be more mindful about how much I use technology. I'm completely taking off the month of August from Facebook, because I've noticed that I check it way too often. I also have a tendency to check email constantly. So, I'm trying to be more deliberate about when & why I check it. I'm journaling my technology use this month to see if that helps. 💗

Hello from Canada. What wonderful video Vera! This encapsulates so many topics that are the themes of your other videos. Really inspiring! I was thinking that it's especially important to teach younger people that life isn't all about interacting with electronic devices. I'm old enough that I remember a time BEFORE television. Our childhood was filled with imaginative play, outdoor activities, enjoying nature and real face-to-face interactions with friends and family - sharing stories, sharing meals, playing games together. I sometimes feel sorry for people who have not had those kinds of experiences. Sending lots of love to you and your partner as you enjoy your new home. ♥

This is an excellent introduction to mindfulness and meditation. Personally I love the coffee or tea meditation because it can be done anywhere. I often have mindful moments on the bus, during my breaks and at home. I find I live more in the present moment more. When I'm anxious about something, I ask myself 'is it happening now?. And more oftenthan not, it is not. ' You have described things very clearly here and I hope anyone considering mindfulness or meditation , (which for me was the best decision I ever made in my life,) sees this video. It will help them enormously.

1. Mind won't shut up. I asked my therapist if there was a step I was missing or just needed to practice more to shut out the distractions that were pulling me out of my meditation like practice. He tested me for adhd and found I had a severe case that went undiagnosed for 42 years because it's primarily inattention and impulsive emotions. Because I was a human sponge as a kid, my grades never suffered, and I had a set routine my mother set as a kid (get home, feed and give attention to outside dog, get snack, do homework, dinner, evening relax after all homework was done). I worked quickly so it was less noticeable when my attention span ran out. So if the struggle continues without improvement, it might be worth a few minutes being tested to see if it's something that needs assistance changing. I know the meds have helped me greatly over the last month, and not just in being more mindful in my day.

great video as usual. Do you do much Taoist meditation. I am sure you know about it but maybe some people in the comments dont. From what I believe to be the case is that one of the types of Taoist meditation is just being in nature listening to the sea lap against the shaw or the sounds of a river etc basically the sounds of nature. I love this type of meditation as it's easy to do without having to concentrate on breaths etc. Oh and interesting you bring up multi tasking I used to pride myself on how much I could multi task but since I have been more connected to myself and learning more about spiritually It seems many people agree that multi tasking is not that great.

When I come across the feelings of doing mindfulness wrong, I have to remind myself that sometimes it just doesn’t click and you just have to find a different way - having a handful of tricks, I call it my “emotional toolbox” - is helpful so that if one approach doesn’t work, I can try something else. Be good to yourselves some days are more challenging some days are easy. simply showing up is always the first step. Be well❤
