My first time exploring the world of rum balls as I didn't grow up having them. I'm much amused by the starkness between American recipes fussing with corn syrup and sugar, where Australia seems to have adopted the condensed milk method. Condensed milk is much smarter to me, cheaper and easy to incorporate as one step. And I'm already imagining a riff using dulce de leche too (caramelized condensed milk). Well either way, I like these and what a treat they are 😋

Bundaberg rum ( 1 cup) and ground macadamia nuts ( more the better) would make this recipe uniquely Australian

Hi Darlene, Condensed milk is very thick, sweet and sticky. Substituting it, I don’t think the rum balls would stick together.

If you need a non-dairy substitute, you may find sweetened condensed coconut milk at your local grocery store
