Please do a video on making course descriptions when you aren’t just using traditional curriculum. When you use eclectic or non traditional ways to make the credit.

Thank you for this video. I have been frustrated with trying to break myself out of a public school mindset (where I was raised) and feeling confident to let our son learn in the ways that he enjoys most. The reassurance you've given here is a real help.

I love your point about not closing any doors. I "knew" what I wanted to do when I was in high school. Guess what? I'm not doing that now. I know others who are successful and nearing retirement who STILL say, "I'm not sure what I want to be when I grow up" ; ) Make sure doors remain open for all sorts of eventualities.

We just completed 9th grade with the oldest. I was SO nervous going in. It turned out to be one of our absolute best years of homeschooling, and it was far less scary than I was making it out to be. This was a great video ❤

So happy to see these comments because I am a first time homeschooler of a 9th grader and have been freaking out about it lol

Thank you so much for the video, it was a great encouragement. I just started homeschooling my 9th grader son TODAY and I feel like I have no idea what I m doing. I really appreciate your words of reassurance and attitude! :)

I do this too! We do a credit for life skills or home ec with just the experience my children have living in a large family. We also do all our high school four sciences in a year. Since my kids do a foreign language lesson app each day for four years, I determined it was equal to 1-2 years of foreign language.

Would you mind sharing which app your child uses for foreign language?

Oh this is great 👍 Please keep talking about high school. We will be there in 1 year! Could you talk about a PLP personal learning plan? Thanks for considering. Love the curls BTW ❤

I'm considering pulling my daughter out of public school to homeschool for her last 4 years. We're having issues in the district that we're in (Northern NY) and the new laws that have been implemented that allows the staff to not tell the parents what's going on with their child at school. It's very interesting that you mentioned horseback riding and working at The stables being applied as credits. My daughter has been riding competitively for about 5 years now and is at the stables three times a week. I feel more confident that I can do this after watching your video. Thank you.

I love the idea of block scheduling! I’m going to implement that 😊

Thank you, Pam! We are headed into the 10th grade year with my son. I agree...just keep going with what works. I still do a lot of reading along with my son and it has enriched both of us. I think keeping a record of what we do on a given day has kept me on track this year, and will serve to help with writing the transcript.

Pam, thank you so much for this! I don't know if you know that I'm homeschooling again - my new husband's 2 youngest. I searched "how to enforce schedule homeschooling high school", and your video (and face) was the FIRST to pop up. Just the encouragement I needed, thank you so much!

It's funny, but my kids always ask to work their schedules opposite of the block schedule you described. They like frequent short lessons spread over the whole year in all the subjects. They told me it's because they hate waiting to learn something. 😂

What about a child who wants to be his own boss and own his own KZbin channel through high school? What would that count towards?

How do you grade? Do you determine the grade, if the class is not accredited?
@PamBarnhill Жыл бұрын
Sometimes the course we are using determines the grade. For example to kids' math class has online quizzes/exams and a reporting system for homework and it determines the grade. For other courses I just grade the work myself. Since we are working to mastery it is rare they make less than an A -- I simply require them to do it over again. For some subjects when a kid wants to do less than what I require we do a "contract" and they know if they don't complete a portion of the class their grade can't be any higher than a B or a C. An example of this is last year when my son didn't want to do nature notebook pages for botany. I gave him the choice but he knew without that portion he couldn't score higher than a B. HTH

I never refer to my child as a kid. He is NOT a baby goat, though he is the Greatest Of All Time!

It's a shame that, that is what you got out of this video... Not her telling you how to look at activities to gain credits. If your worried how she refers to her kids maybe you should just mind your own business and make your own videos about your home school tips.
