This video is sew very helpful. This is the style of sewing, cutting, I grew up with. Thank you for reminding us of these helpful hints, I learned over the years by trial and error.

Excellent details, as usual, Laura! An "advanced" method of attaching 2 elastic ends together: 1. Don't add the 1 inch in total length. 2. Cut a 2" x 2" piece of scrap fabric. 3. Fold in half, right sides together & use a 1/2 " stitch (from the raw edge) down the raw side (not stitching down either of the raw ends). 4. Turn tube right side out, keeping the newly sewn edge down the center of the piece. New fabric piece should be 1 " wide x 2 " long. 5. Abutt the two ends of the cut-to-fit elastic (being very certain the elastic is NOT twisted inside the garment) against the center of the 1 " wide section of the "patch". 6. Stitch the ends atop the fabric scrap (stitching down the middle of this fabric "patch" just prepared,) using a small zig zag or straight stitch to secure each end of the elastic to the patch. 7. Now, no overlap lump in the elastic, about which my daughter complained. 8. You can choose to trim down the fabric now sewn to the elastic, from the back, if desired.

I’m losing weight (yay me!) but my favorite jumper is now too big. I would love to have the confidence to take in the sides. Seems like it should be sew easy, but I’d hate to ruin it for the next person. Any tips?

Thank you. Do you know if there is a learn to sew pattern for a basic type of dress? Also could the pants pattern on the one you used be cut and used for boys shorts (minus the bow of course ☺).

I'm not sure which pattern paper Laura is using, but I like Swedish Tracing Paper. I buy it online...it comes on a roll.
