Betta api api are adorable, colorful, tiny, and spunky! They're such a great little fish, and they need specific care requirements. They're also nearly extinct in the wild due to habitat loss. Can fishkeepers do something about it?

If you're interested in this fascinating little species, I have an email notification list on my web site - simplybetta.com/shop/betta-api-api/ - Hopefully I'll have a bunch next spring! And by the way, it's easier to tell males from females when they're all together in a tank! My method took longer, lol

Hello I would love to help with the conservation Efforts. I could truly see this fish being something that would be great for the micro community since that committee is growing exponentially bigger every day. So I feel like the target audience would definitely be people who are specialized in Aquascapes being in micro cultures and Micro colonies

Hi.. I'm from Indonesia, the origin of Betta api-api. In the wild i"ve seen them living in PH 5 to 6. But the TDS is very low, about 50-80. It is so hard to achieve. I'm so glad that you could breed them. I hope that you could continue to spread the love of Indonesian wild betta to your viewer.

This is a great video, to demonstrate how big the family (complex) is. I had the pleasure of keeping Betta Bellica, arguably the largest of the bubblenest builders, at up to 5 inches long. This is also a great video on caring for Bettas, including all the different live food that are available for them (that can be purchased through one's local pet shop, or through the web). Your fish look great and would inspire other Betta Keepers (and non-Betta keepers) to try the wild species. You're an awesome fishkeeper, and wonderful person. All the best to you, your family and your fish.

I'm so devastated I attempted to clean my tank put my female betta in a bucket and had to fill the bucket fairly high so that my heater was submerged in water to work efficiently!! but I didnt cover it and I just came back to find her on my floor. The best way of conservation of fish species is to only buy captive bred species. The thought of individual breaders saving the wild species by providing bred fish is doubtful. As this mostly leads to hobby breaders with low succes rates to increase the demand giving the wild species the final push to extinction. Also to popularize new species that are not yet captively bred is not wise. There are already so many bred species, just stick to those. You meant well though!

Hiiiii im still pretty new to fish keeping, came to it from an interest in plants. I love these little fishies and the idea of protecting a species. Gonna make it a goal to learn more about the hobby so some day i can confidently keep fishies like these. Questions though, if you dont mind. Also, any other comment reader who might know feel free to answer! I see info about reducing the total dissolved solids in water, is that not the same as allowing malm buildup? Or is it that if you start with pure RO water then the malm adding to tds is natural and not stuff from our water treatment things. Thanks!

Hey, I’m not sure if you’ll see this, but I’m a huge fan! This video literally made me get a pair of betta Api api. I’ve kept other bettas before but I’m curious Is there any other tips in terms of tank setup and care? Id really appreciate it! Thanks

I see it and I’ll answer you here! Well let’s see, keep in mind they thrive in soft, acidic conditions! NO gaps in the lid, they will totally jump out :)

@@SimplyBetta OMG thank you so. much for replying!! it means the world to me as i watch youre videos everyday! That's my plan, i have a 5.5 gallon tank with driftwood and black lava rock, with a whole bunch of lowlight plants including salvinia, water lily, and crypt lutea. Probably gonna throw in some pearl weed too. I use an ro water system which i remineralize. with gh salts and use blackwater extract, with indian almond leaves and alder cones. I also was inspired by you so i got a bag of the brightwell florin volcanit. I have super tight glass lid, running a big pre seeded sponge filter. i'm using a cheap led which i'm gonna cover with some black tape so that it won't be as bright. Finally i have bbs and you also inspired me to make a grindal worm culture. So i hope i'm all set up! thanks again taylor, keep making amazing content! also, i definitely want to share them when i get them to breed, so when it happens i would love to send you some.

i also meant to say i learned almost everything i know from you, i'm following your guide exactly based on your videos! the macrastoma videos definitely helped me the most for parameters and set up. hopefully i know what i'm doing, since the pair i got is still a bit young i'm gonna fatten them up for now. Simply (betta), you are the best!
