@@SimplyBetta have you ever worked with Gianne of Inglorious Bettas? She's an IBC judge, and a great breeder. My water is too hard to successfully breed bettas anymore, and nowhere near enough humidity, even when I saran wrap the lid, so I am not currently a good candidate to salvage a breeding population. Gianne and @Deansfishroom would be good candidates for helping establish good breeding stock.

I have been hoarding 10 gallon tanks because I want to breed the api api so badly 😅 my partner thinks I’m nuts. Tip for heat tape: I’m not sure where you’re going to place it, but having a heat reflective backer on it can help direct the heat where you want it and avoid heat loss. Insulating material on the back and top of the cabinet will also help with keeping it nice and toasty in there. I use the silvery bubble wrap stuff you can get at the hardware store when I’m trying to keep things warm.
@SimplyBetta2 жыл бұрын

You might want to add a couple of vent holes way up high in the back on each cabinet to help with not trapping so much humidity.
@SimplyBetta2 жыл бұрын
Good point! I'll monitor and consider. I don't think humidity will be a problem, my lids are super tight-fitting with no gaps, and there are some gape between the doors. But I'll have to see! Maybe some of those little USB computer fans would work too
@THandP_org2 жыл бұрын
Since this is for breeding api api, high humidity is good (in the tanks), otherwise the labyrinth organ doesn't develop properly. There shouldn't be much humidity escaping, except when feeding/maintenance.... when the doors will be open. The heat tape is brilliant, and theoretically you should be able to keep the temp a solid 82° to 86° for breeding. Personally, I would put insulation inside the armoire, which would also reduce the risks of water / humidity damage to the armoire.

Api api are so cute! Loving wild betta and living in an area with hard water, I’ve just been cutting the tapwater with RO or distilled. What do you remineralize with and at what dose, if there’s a simple answer?
@SimplyBetta2 жыл бұрын
I do! I make RO water, I remineralize it a little bit, just enough to support some softwater plants. I keep the KH at zero, because my buffering substrate will make sure the PH stays around 6ish, and having KH in the water can fish against the buffering substrate and make it work harder, which depletes it faster. It's a method shrimpkeepers use. I need to make a detailed video!
@jessicarubio10852 жыл бұрын
I also live in an area with very hard water. I use well water & it’s very hard. I wonder if it would be alright to do a 50/50 mix for my fish.

Great video as usual but i am rather concerned about that cabinet.. I know you mentioned bracing please brace the shelves in the middle as well as the edges 🙏🏻 and also i would tske a serious look at he legs. It seems to be 4 legs in each corner with relatively small points of contact to the base wood. All the weight is gonna be concentrated there and could be disastrous. Maybe take the legs off completely and have it flush on your floor or on aditional woofen planks running the whole length of the cabinate. Good luck 🤞
@SimplyBetta2 жыл бұрын
I can't take the legs off, the cabinet is now too heavy for pipsqueak Taylor to deal with at all! Do you think the shelves would need additional center bracing if they're solid pine (not laminate)? with 80-120lb distributed fairly evenly across
@DomStewartWhite2 жыл бұрын
@@SimplyBetta hmm 🤔 can you add a support leg in addition to the current 4 rather than removing ? Maybe just stacking some pieces of wood in the space underneath? Until they can brace some of the weight? (thinking of it like how would put paper under a table leg if its wobbly just keep stacking until its as tight as it can go) What i worry about with the legs is that all the pressure goes into those 4 points and maybe splits the wood where they are just screwed in. With regards to shelves ofcourse without seeing the actual item i dont know for sure and am just guessing but i worry that the joints etc from ikea stuff are mostly just screwed in so all the weight gets held by a few small points. I would still put a centre support even with pine as you have 3 tanks on each shelf there is direct pressure in the middle, you could also double layer the wood on the shelf but that will add more overall weight to the legs and lower structure. Again i cant be sure if you need any of thos but from the small clips i saw in the video i think it is better safe than sorry as you dont want to have a disaster with your AMAZING fish

I really like these fish they're really cute. I love betta, but I also really love Nano aquariums and nano fish so a beta that smaller sounds amazing plus I love a blue-eyed fish. I have Norman's lampeye killifish, and blue-eyed red neon rainbow fish I think they're called and they're all so cool with those reflective eyes. It sounds like a great fish for me to want to keep but I'd be so afraid of killing it I accidentally and sitting back the breeding program. My question is why do you want them in a cabinet with the doors closed? I want to see all my tanks I don't want them hidden behind a door. Is this for breeding purposes? Or you just trying to keep them somewhere that's not in a fish room want to hide that?
