Idea for the podcast. One of the running jokes you guys have is Ben always wants to go in vacation but Cristine doesn’t want to go. Make a podcast episode where Ben and Cristine plan a detailed itinerary for a week long vacation somewhere they have no intention of going to. I think it would be funny.

Oh the misunderstanding about Ben speaking over Cristine sounds so familiar because Safiya and Tyler get that shit all the time, whether in videos or in their livestreams! Either Saf is accused of interrupting Tyler too much or micromanaging him, then she feels she has to apologize now any time it could be seen that way, then it's a whole thing, and the whole thing is just ridiculous because they have their dynamic and they're comfortable with it. People read way too much into things. Hell, that's one reason she took a break for so long.

I love their live streams because i like them as content creators but it makes me sad how much they listen to things like that. Constantly trying to be okay with what chat wants and not just them being themselves. I think their content suffers just a little everytime because they cannot even relax or just have a normal conversation. Or crack an egg without immediately washing their hands even tho they admit on stream that they dont do that outside the stream, but somw pwople on stream might get mad so theyre doing it for that purpose. I wish they just let those pwople who are mad for no reason just be mad without trying to cator so much to those people.

I've found, the more creators cater to these types of people, the more it gets nitpicked and their mental health suffers and their content suffers. These people are meant to see something they don't like and move on, not force others to do things from their point of view. It just gets worse and worse, until the bullies have ran them completely away.

38:07 okay, even at (almost) age 32, this one still hits hard. my aunt didn't like me either. the most prominent memory I have of her is her shoving me out of her way, not hugging me and going straight to my mom ignoring me completely at a big family event. at age six this hurt very much. and as an adult you are trying to understand that this is just life. but even though I am not very good interacting with children myself, I at least try at every possible occasion to value their presence, so they do not feel unwanted or neglected. yeah, they are sometimes loud and unreasonable and hard to be around, but I pull through it. I never wish for any kid to feel as unwanted as I was by my aunt.

I'm really sorry that happened to you. I don't really like or want kids myself, but it's not really that hard to just talk to kids like they're people. Just because one doesn't love children doesn't mean they need to pretend to talk to them like they're a baby or something. Just respect and don't ignore them. Listen to them and communicate. That's something I think I missed out on from people when I was little too
@silverkyre
@silverkyre 2 жыл бұрын
Exactly, some people who dont like kids seem to forget that kids are also people. They are a whole person with feelings that is still trying to understand the world. But they act like they just get to be rude to children because children are rude sometimes but their a whole adult and should know better.
@Amsayy
@Amsayy 2 жыл бұрын
People who hate children, I wonder how would these ideas of children contrast if you were to apply it to poc, people who are disabled, queer people, etc. Children are a group of people and worthy of respect if not love. It's okay to not want to be around children, if you can't mentally handle it safely. But you'll lose relationships eventually without making an effort. I'm sorry your aunt treated you this way. I don't have good memories of some of my aunts as well. It was clear they didn't like me from an early age and as a result I do everything in my power to have no connection to those who she's still involved with. I lost my entire mothers half of my family. I wouldn't trust them around me, my own child, anyone I love. People who hate kids it's just... they're in the power position here to make an effort for a healthy relationship. It frustrates me as a child who was on the receiving end of it.

About the “power of comments” thing, I do remember something that happened with one of Safiya’s soap videos. A number of comments were calling her out in a way for using cinnamon in the soap DIY. And before I got to that part, I was expecting that Safiya didn’t do proper research. But she actually did and even pointed out that cinnamon in soap isn’t safe. The concept was her to really follow the tutorial video she was watching that’s why she used cinnamon. But she still responsibly shared the appropriate info about it. People really be reactive rather than proactive online I guess. Big sigh.

Cheesecakes take a long time because after they cook low and slow, they need to come back to room temperature very slowly to avoid cracking (normally they sit in the oven after it’s turned off for several hours). Finally they need to chill overnight. So yes they take a long time to make, but you’re only actively doing things for the first hour when you’re actually preparing the crust and custard. NB: This is for dense New York style cheesecakes.

I find a lot of podcast hosts talk about wanting to have more/not having enough guests on and what I see is most viewers prefer podcasts without guests. I like a guest once in a while but most of us watch the show because we like you and feel like we're getting to know you. We feel like we're sitting in a room with people we like and get to be involved in the conversation in the comments. You could talk about almost anything and we'd be entertained. It's really that simple in my opinion. I like the mix of informative, fun and even mundane topics discussed here. Glad you didn't quit anyway!

If a podcast I follow is with a guest i don't care about, I might not watch it whilst I watch every episode of guestless podcasts. I learned that Cristine’s skin color is blue when inverted 🙃 Also, I think Jenna did it the best way… You should put on content for as long as it keeps you happy and content.. And whenever you no longer want to do it, for any reason, whether it just doesn’t fulfill you anymore, or you need a mental break or changing your life priorities… Then you stop. Don’t worry about the pressure from the public, it will always be there and you can’t let it be the reason why you continue, if your heart isn’t in it anymore. I’m one of the people who watches the whole episode every single week and it brings me consistent joy but when you guys decide to be done, it’ll be fine. As someone who's incredibly family oriented and involved in immediate family's kids lives, you aren't an ahole if you don't like kids. I will say maybe because of this you can just hang with the sister like give her a break from her kid, I know my sister appreciates me being a big part of her kids lives but I know she likes me as her sister too not just as an aunt. The constant updates are just her wanting to share her life with her sister I feel.

I think the kid and non-kid people need to make a new deal. The non-kid people will treat kids as well as their most boring uncle, who is socially awkward and only wants to talk about the truck he is restoring. He still gets a hello, a hug (if your family does that), and if he starts a conversation he gets 5-10m before you excuse yourself. The kid people will never give the non-kid people a hard time about not having/liking kids, and will step in if a child is pestering a non-kid person or not letting them end a conversation. Because children are usually tactless and demanding.
@hannahlydiagrandi
@hannahlydiagrandi 2 жыл бұрын
I am not a kid person at all however when it is a close family member you do also need to think about the fact that that child will be a close family member for their whole lives and eventually they will no longer be a kid so you need to form a minimum of a bond with them for once they are an adult themselves since they may be a great peson when they grow up and it is sad to competely remove them from your life because of not liking them as being a kid. idk if that made sense but even though i don't like kids if they are people i know will be in my life long term i don't want to not have a connection with them whatsoever.

Yeah, and maybe talk about the kid a bit. He's such a big part of the sister's life, it's like not asking a family member about their favourite hobby or passion. It can be done, but by talking about it it will probably increase the bond slightly.

It's nice when people normalize that not everyone likes children. I really, really want nothing to do with them, however my nephews and nieces love me and I love them. I do spend time with them and even took custody of one when he was older. That, however, was my choice.

Fully understand, i can't stand the idea of having kids of my own and don't like the idea of caring about kids, but kids love me for some reason 🤦🏻‍♀️, so I've become a great nanny (and getting paid well for it too) just because kids love playing games with me and showing me stuff even when i don't care 😅

@UCVuO47f8WyLg6nW4pbST80g Lol agreed, plus everyone was a child once, so how can someone claim to hate kids when they are a necessary part of human existence? I went through a phase of not liking/wanting children which ultimately stemmed from childhood trauma from my upbringing rather than actual dislike of children. Not saying everyone is this way, children in this day and age are a choice, but straight up not liking them comes off to me as though you dislike the innocence and purity of children.

I've made cheesecake multiple times. There are 2 types, no-bake and bake. The no-bake takes less time (maybe 15 to 30 mins) and cooling time (put in in the freezer for 2 hours and you're done). The baked cheesecake takes an hour to hour and a half to bake depending on the recipe and your oven, it takes longer to cool too because you have to cool it before putting it in the fridge (you can keep it in the freezer to speed ip the process). So, it's probably the cooling time that took her a lot because with the baked cheesecake you have to cool it completely before decorating/ adding toppings.

I get that kids aren't everyone's jam, but if you want an equal relationship with your friends and family with kids then you need to understand that as a parent a *huge* portion of their life is going to be child related. Asking them to not tell you stories about their kid is like saying, "I love you, but I hate your partner so when we're together, don't tell me stories about your partner." I'm just imagining trying to censor my 9 year old and 5 year old from stories about my day to day life and failing. It would be the death of my relationship with that person. Like on Saturday my kid woke me up by vomiting on me and then I spent the day trying to keep her comfortable and clean and eventually realizing that she was vomiting too often and having to take her to urgent care. The story of my weekend without my kid is "I had to change my sheets twice because they were vomited on." If you feel that the discussion is too centered on Jimmy's quest for a squirtle pokemon card, change the subject and bring it back to the parent, "You've told me all about what Jimmy's up to, but what about you!? Did you see what happened at the Oscars? What do you make of that?"

I agree with this. I absolutely do not want to have kids, but I worked as a teacher so for those years, about 75% of my life was stories about kids. What more for parents? Asking parents not to talk about their kids might remove like 90% of their stories and the things they are passionate about. I'm sure there are parents who would love to not talk about their kids for a few hours, but at keast the option should be there. So yeah, I guess a person who absolutely hates hearing stories about children would alienate their friends who have become parents.

I lost "friends" when I had my kid. Even after publicly trying for 5 years and having several miscarriages. After actually having my son. They decided nope. Because they want me to have a babysitter EVERYTIME we hang out. And that's not possible for me. BUT i have also gotten closer to friends that are like " yes bring the baby!" And they don't hold him or change him. He just chills with us. We play video games , board games , my husband or I have a few drinks while the other one makes sure the baby is taken care of and safe and we talk. When he cries they pause the game or conversation. When he's asleep they turn down the music. A baby doesn't have to diminish your social life. But it does change it. My son is my world. I quit my job for him. I got a nanny job that he can go with me to for him. I almost died during the pregnancy and labor for him. And it's okay for friends and family not to like kids. But we are a package deal ( I dont have much family so this is all I can really relate it to)

for the 'i dont like kids any even my nephew', i had a similar situation when my neice was born. i don't super like kids but i can tolerate them. I actually didnt like the baby at first bc well, the baby was ugly and my sister took pregnacy really badly and honestly became a pain to be around. so the combination of those 2 things made me pretty unhappy with the whole situation. however as time has gone on i like going over ad playing with the baby as shes starting to crawl. my sisters attitude has mellowed out as well. i still wont change diapers yet tho. 😅 i think it is pretty bad to not care about your nephew but id give her time bc children get better then worse as you have to stop them from trying to die(toddler) and then better although they can be loud. im taking it a step at a time and being honest with my sister about how much effort ill put towards my niece.

And how many times do you have to burn yourself to remember what side is hot and Wich is cold? The water tap question makes no sense to me, because if you have a lever type faucet, then the direction the lever is facing indicates the temperature it was left at most of the time. It is usually color coded with blue for cold and red for hot too, so if the lever was left on hot, you wouldn't just immediately stick your hands under the water. Also, if this is a constant thing this wife does, why has she not learned to check or wait for the flow to cool down first??
