That’s why I no longer go to those scissor happy hair stylists! I went natural 2 years ago. I was so happy that I was able to cut off the relaxed/damaged part. Now I give myself a light trim once a year. My hair has never been so long and its super healthy!

ALL these tips are so true. You are correct. It is very simple. There is no need to go through a billion steps. Analyzing your hair is number one. You have to know what is happening first, then get the products that you need for your hair and follow a routine for at least 3-4 months. Then reanalyze before changing up your products. You may just need to change one product. You also need to drink plenty of water and check up on your health. I found out after changing up and eliminating products that I need more iron. As soon as I started taking an iron supplement, my shedding reduced drastically. I had no idea that IRON could affect the hair follicles. I also stopped trimming my hair every 3 - 4 months, because my ends were so healthy. I now just trim every 6 months. GREAT POINTS! Thank you for sharing.

Yes. Thank you. Your tips are true too. I have always told my clients about iron levels as well. Now more people need to make sound decisions when it comes to hair care, it not simply about washing and conditioning.

I have fine, thin, low porosity 3b hair. (Genetics), you would think it would be silky all the time but no. So I add aussie miracle moisture leave in conditioner daily and just throw it in one big pin curl, and it soaks it up. So when i release the pin curl it looks nice and moisturized. After a few hours I have to reapply cuz it seems to disappear 😂 Im definitely going to take deep conditioning more seriously. Ive also found that food based products, like avocado oil, coconut, olive oil, mayo, eggs, aloe etc really do feed our hair, and im sure theres at least one that someones hair will love through trial and error. When i need a little protein treatment, i go for the coconut oil as my base and also add my batana, rosemary, castor oil & cloved mix I made myself. I cut my hair to my chin last december and its past my collarbone already. Also daily scalp massages changed the game for me. Good luck on all ur hair growth journey's, ladies. This woman is speaking the truth. Simple and to the point.

This is so true. I feel like my whole teenage life my hair was in its dorment faze. It would never get to my shoulders, so I just said I will be the cute short hair chick. I am now 50 and my hair is to my hips. So, its not genetics. Its not about products as I am cheap now in my 15 year natural hair journey. 😂😂 I dont fool with all the lco anymore. I wanted to be in the 4a community so badly because of youtube and Im not and thats ok😢. My hair did not thrive that way! Listen to your hair and stick to a product for a while before you switch!! She is giving the best advice!!❤ EDIT: This my real hair in the thumbnail and it looks so good people ask me about my bundles that I dont have😂❤ Also, you said hair grows 365 but there are dormant phases that can be natural or due to scalp trauma.

Hi Tamika, great video. What do you recommend using to keep stubborn gray hair moisturized?
@SimplyTamika
@SimplyTamika 4 ай бұрын
Grey hair so stubborn. You need to make sure that you deep condition your hair on wash day. My deep penetrating conditioner works wonders for infusing extreme moisture into dry strands. In between to keep hair moisturized my favorite cream is Camille Rose curl aide moisture butter. You may need to figure out the porosity of your hair as well because could affect the moisture retention of your hair.

Great thorough and informative video. I agree with everything you said. Now, on a side note I look up your products and was very interested until I saw the protein/ silk amino acids in it. I need a hydrating and moisturizing shampoo but I cannot use and protein in my hair. My hair has been ruined more than once from protein or something that acts like a protein such as henna as I was trying to find an alternative. I know people say "your hair is made of protein", and blah blah blah. And thats true but it is some people, many of us that cannot and will not use added proteins. My hair doesn't even like coconut oil and can barely tolerate aloe vera. There are many many low porosity hair girls like me that can't find the products we need. I know the silk amino acids are the smaller proteins or something like that, and it is lower on your list but that doesn't not matter for me. I still have horrible results in those cases. So may I suggest you create a product system without those ingredients mentioned. Trust me it will sell. It's very hard to find but very coveted. And yes meditating on the word is awesome. God bless you.

@marleyhill34 I was just going to recommend water and glycerin...I used bottled water lol. I'm not a fan of productd in fact, I no longer used commercial shampoo on my hair. I have no need for commercial conditioner. I use vinegar, white or apple cider to wash my hair and I only use olive oil, sometimes castor oil and my glycerin and water. Not to mention my hair is never stripped of its natural oils. I know, sounds crazy but i keep it simple and it works.

I agree, when my hair is straight i literally need nothing until it’s time to go into a low pony…on wash day I’ll heavily oil and add heat…with natural styles i need to oil my scalp once a week, and my ends as needed for styling…extra product really doesn’t do anything for me, and usually results in more hair fall….
@marleyhill34
@marleyhill34 4 ай бұрын
@@deahsarnosse4446 ok and noted. Bottled water still has minerals in it that build up on the hair. I use store bought products as i don't have the time to distill water, source all the ingredients and chemically formulate my own products. Most of the simple DIYs irritate my scalp.

I would recommend that you begin to add a light protein treatment to your hair regulary until it strengthens. You have to make sure to put the conditioner on your hair sit under the hooded dryer for 25 to 30 minutes at least 2 times monthly. But without me knowing more information about your hair, I can't make too many recommendations. My favorite light protein conditioner is Joico K-Pak. amzn.to/43ppwUK

I used to wash, condition or deep condition my hair weekly and air dry. Only used a flat iron once after it dried before the next wash. So, I took great care of my hair. I didn’t change up hair products, my hair changed on me and menopause happened a few years ago. I already had type 4 hair and would get a perm once every 6-8 weeks. It seems like the texture has changed for the worse of course. Also it is always dry and I have to use so much oil that I would use a towel to protect my pillow at night I also would wear a scarf or bonnet at night. My hair just absorb so much oil. My scalp itches all the time like it never has before and I do not have dandruff. I just can’t figure out how to take care of this new head of hair. Nothing has worked. Do you have any idea what is going on or any recommendations? BTW, I am a pretty healthy eater.

Is it okay to leave protective styles, like knotless braids, for longer than 8 weeks? I usually have to leave it in for 10-12 weeks cause of college and it seems fine because when I flat ironed my hair recently, it was the longest it’s ever been, near my elbows. But I was wondering if this was a problem long term and why?
@SimplyTamika
@SimplyTamika 4 ай бұрын
The general rule is to not leave your protective styles in longer than eight weeks. There are some people that can leave them in longer with no adverse effects. Your hair just may be able to withstand longer times in protective styles without damage, matting and tangling. That is ok for you. If it is working well, then by all means, do what works. Remember, hair care is different for every person. As long as you monitor your hair and know your hair and it’s healthy and thriving, do you.

Washing once a week is normal. Now if you use a lot of heavy products, there's no way to get around the flaking. Heavy products flake eventually. I do not put grease, oil, butter or creams on my scalp. I rarely use styling products like gels, mousse or edge control. I have very little flaking by day 7. Do you use a shampoo scalp brush and a shampoo specifically for flakey scalp?

My hair grows long and thick then the birds do something to it (I am not given any credit to witchcraft and any of that, I know how to defeat that) I don’t know what they do but they do something to all the hairs they can get their energy on even eyelashes👀🫢. I don’t do eyelashes or putting glues chemicals on any types of hair. The crows, the ravens, the eagles, falcons (these titles be more than just football teams🤦🏽‍♀️) tweet tweets (I like those ones 🐥tho, they don’t have the connotation of death…they maybe still amongst those that harm hair tho🫢…don’t ask me how I know, these days experience comes whether I want it to or not…Praise the LORD for being my Shield and Savior🕊❣️. I also am not a fan of very long hair; just healthy hair. Message received on stress breakage and managing stress❣️. A lot going on in the Prayer world for Christ Intercessors🕊❣️.

My only question is…why do we have to keep trimming? Other cultures don’t have to trim every 8 weeks. Why is our hair so damaged that Black people must keep trimming their hair to get maybe 5 inches of hair growth a year? (and believe me most Black people who trim their hair every 6 weeks don’t get the 5 inches of growth). It does not make sense. On many channels and from my own experiences protective styles don’t help your hair to grow. Protective styles might lead you into Alopecia (there are many natural sisters wearing protective styles who end up bald…like Sister with the real Hair).

You’re correct it comes from western culture if you study from African tribes, they do not cut their hair so I do believe in pruning like light dusting. However, I did an experiment for you and I didn’t cut my hair at all and he grew so much my aunts actually weren’t as bad as everyone was saying, but I did decide to cut off about an inch and a half and I will now be only trimming my hair twice a year, and when I say true, I essentially mean dust because if you do the math, it really doesn’t make any sense as far as protective styles Protective styles to me is with your natural hair being planted gently down or styles like twist even with extensions however, anybody that does it too tight obviously it is a protective I personally don’t wear individual braids, but I do wear mini braids with my own natural hair, other than that just follow what works best for you and pray over your hair

Less of a culture perspective and more of a science perspective. Our hair is the weakest hair strand. It’s more durable because African and African descent have thicker hair meaning more hairs on the head. But the individual stand itself is very thin. The strongest hair is Asian because the singular stand is thicker and straight. With our hair strands being thinner , the fact that it’s curls and kink causes a weakness in the strand. So every time the hair naturally bends it’s a tension point. This and the fact that our hair for the more coarse and thicker heads have lower porosity. I hate the newer and big terms but it’s useful since we don’t know how to take care of an our hair anymore since we’ve always masked it. Back to porosity but since we need heat (steam,shower, hot spray bottle water) it seems like a lot a work since we aren’t used to but it’s necessary to open the hair cuticle get that moisture in and once it seals it’s harder to leave. That’s why we can wear styles for weeks and others can’t. People try to ignore race and history up but it’s a huge part of how people function

Really good responses below. Protective styles can be simply a simple as a bun where your hair is tucked away from the elements. Yes, many protective styles do lead to alopecia but as long as the protective style is done gently and correctly and taken down properly, they can be very beneficial in retaining length. As a profession who helped people grow there hair for over 15 years, yes many people's hair grows the six inches and more. It's just that a lot of people who don't take care of their hair properly won't see the growth because the hair is breaking off as fast as it is growing.

My personal opinion is, if your hair grows and it's healthy, and you only trim once a year, do what works for you. And also choose the best protective style for you. My protective style is a basic ponytail, my own hair. It works for me. My hair grew waist length, but the bottom line is I had to go through trail and error to find out what was best for my hair and I think we all have to do that.
